Dominican businessman Clyde Ferriera has been shot by a masked man in Tortola, the police in that British territory have said.
The 54-year-old was shot on Thursday night in an area called Baugher’s Bay.
Police said Ferreira told them that he was unlocking his vehicle at around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday night after visiting friends in the area, when he became aware of a masked man, dressed in black, hiding in the bushes. This man, it was alleged, pointed a handgun at the victim, causing him to turn and run.
The unknown assailant then fired the gun at the victim several times, causing injuries to the lower part of his body. Officers who subsequently searched the area found three spent shells nearby.
The police are trying to establish a motive for this allegedly unprovoked attack and investigations continue.
Ferreira is presently at the Peebles Hospital in Tortola.

It does give one a good feeling,to say something good to someone or for someone in a bad situation;
it is simple to guage how heartless and hurtful a few people that post on this site are.this is a reflection of their inner feelings.
What so ever you do or say to the least of my bro.or sister, that’s what you do to you.(words from the clouds).
I am trying my best to understand your post! I think you need to write on a piece of paper, have someone proof read and then type!
@ Integrity
The comments contain a few errors but they are explicit and make sense. They are nothing for you to be impatient about and to insult the writer.
So true i just don’t get,him/her point at all what was that person, trying to say think first, and then speak.
English Translation for you in simpler terms
It makes a person feel good when they say something good about someone or on someone’s behalf during or after a bad situation.
It is easy to measure how emotionally detached and mean some people on this webpage(D.N.O.) are and it must be an insight to what is contained within their own hearts or souls.
Whatever you wish for someone else you wish for God and thus for yourself
I’m surprised I haven’t sen an ignorant comment like ‘live by the gun die by the gun ‘.
you just made it the ignorant comment
@ Mystical
If it was not stated why bring it up?
This is so sad

I am saddened by this. Recover well my friend.
So sorry to hear this. Let’s pray and hope he makes full recovery.
We wish you well my brother, hope you will be ok
Reading some comments makes me realise that Dominicans are heartless and like to run to conclusions.
Watch your words boss! better if you said some Dominican.
They find it easy to do that under the cloak of anonymity. It appears we are no longer able to determine appropriateness. Wishing the man a speedy recovery is all that’s necessary now. Alas, is so we come?
All the best to you Clyde, on the behalf of me and my family i wish you pull though we will be praying for you.
get well soon so u could pay me what u owe me for my produce………………
He in the fing non? He looks like somebody who doesn’t like to pay
You really have a langue kabwit and of same mind. Why speculate? Innocent people are shot. For now, until you know better, give him, the benefit of the doubt.
I’m not putting my hand in fire for anyone.
He got shot for a reason
The question is, what reason?
@CONFUSION YOU HAVE EVERY REASON TO GIVE YOUR NAME CONFUSION CAUSE NO WHERE IN THE BVI PLATINUM NEWS OR THE BVI DAILEY NEWS IT SAYS THE VICTIM CLYDE FERREIRA IS FROM THE DOMINICIAN REPUBLIC YOU ALL MUST STOP SPREADING PROPAGANDA.GO BACK TO THE SIGHT AND READ AND UNDERSTAND IT SAYS COMMON WEALTH OF DOMINICA YOU PEOPLE ARE JUST FULL OF **** HEAD.
SMH!!! People BVINEWS.com had the wrong information. It was read, they were informed and they changed it making it correct. No need to get your undies in a knot. Forcus on the issue, a man got shot.
dominica is a republic
At first that is what they reported. That he is from the Dominican Republic. It was corrected after it was pointed out to them. My goodness.
TO ” REACH OUT!” I HEARD IT ON ZBVI NEWS THAT THE VICTIM IS A DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MAN AND I WAS JUST AS UPSET.

I know some Ferreira’s. Since he is from Dominica, he must be related to them.
Wow!! It is really refreshing to see a short comment from you. I too wish him a speedy recovery.
You make me laugh. Obviously, there are times that some comments will be short. It goes without saying that it depends on the circumstances and ‘under the circumstances.’ In this case there is not much I can say. but to wish him well…
hold strong my bro,you are hard working and i know you will pull throw this, peace
?????????????????????????? what is that hmmmmmm??????????????????????????
WHY everthing is drugs or crime releated let the investigation go on before assuming.
thats bad
BVI news is say Clive Ferreira from Dominican Republic… http://bvinews.com/bvi/shooting-in-baughers-bay-police-appeal-for-information/.,,really sad news..SMH
The news said Commonwealth of Dominica. Please read it did not say Dominican Republic.
Stupes, when the news was first written, I said Dominican Republic. I commented on the site and sent Dominicanewsonline posting to them, so it was corrected. Now I am being attacked. Some of you have nothing better to do with all you time than to be angry. The point is a fellow Dominican was hurt and we should empathize. All you need Jesus.
Some of them do not know the difference in Dominica Republic and Dominica. BVI Police should know the difference.
D.R. nationals are also called Dominicans. I have heard it and also informed someone that these are two different countries.
Dominica was once called Sunday Island and also Trinity Island. Later it was changed to Dominica. As we know in French it is called Dominique. One of those names, other than Dominica should have been kept. There would be no mistake or confusion between Dominican Republic and Dominica.
this is really unbelievable, how did this happen ? hope he will be able to tell who shot him when he is feeling better, get well soon clyde!n praise GOD u are aliv
The person was masked therefore at that time he could not identified him.
‘identify’
why was he shot? is it drug related?
@ no name
Why ask? No one knows. The first word which came to your mind is drugs. Leave drugs out of it for now. The police will conduct an investigation and also question Ferreira for the possibility of a motive. He is a businessman. At this point it is pure speculation that he may have had some misunderstanding or quarrel with someone or some people. Who knows? The truth may surface after the police complete their investigation.
it was OBVIOUSLY a hold up to steal his money and his car, didnt you read
Wishing him a speedy recovery
Is he from Dominica or Dominican Republic? The Tola news sites say Dominican Republic. When will these two countries stop being confused for each other? This happens so often all over the world.
A man meet me in st vincent and ask where i from? I tell him Dominica
Hear the man…. “Dominican Republic?” “Nice Place!” LOL
I say no Commonwealth of Dominica, The man say he don’t know that place, never heard of it! LOL
@ LOL
Many times in Canada I was asked if I am from Dominican Republic. Yes! Some West Indians as also from Jamaica have asked me if I am from D.R. I told one who was a co-worker that she should be ashamed of herself, “You are from the West Indies and you do not know about Dominica? I knew she was not all that educated. I learned about all the islands and their towns (we called them capitals) in elementary school.
While residing in Dominica I had some pen pals. One of them from Trinidad wrote me and stated, “I heard there is trouble in your island.” I was puzzled to read about that. It was not until I came to Canada and was asked if I am from Dominican Republic that I realized the place the person referred to. This informed me that some of them obviously did not attend elementary school or did not complete it.
Another Canadian co-worker also asked me if I am from Jamaica. They think that Jamaica is the only island in the West Indies. I gave him a geography lesson and also told him that we are not all from one island and the same corner of the earth, that there are many islands in the West Indies.
Today, they know more about the West Indies. Reason being that some of them commit crimes and their names and country (if not born in Canada) are broadcasted through the Media and also printed in the newspapers. This is how they know the names of islands because some comment crimes. Jamaica heads them. Is this not something? I do know some Jamaicans but some very nice, decent people – law-abiding ones. Whenever I am asked if I am from Jamaica, I respond with a resounding. “NO!”
I told one of my Jamaican friends who is of Chinese descent ( ) that those from Jamaica who commit crimes embarrass their nationals here and give them a bad name. No exception those from other countries embarrass nationals from their countries.
I am just so speechless about this. Just shocked. I am hoping that my friend will be ok
Indian.Hope things work out for you and you get out from this place safe. Hold tight bro.
I wish him speedy recovery.
so sorry to hear that, wishing him a safe recovery.
OMG.I wish him well.
the man is from the Dominican Republic (not Dominica) according to the BVI Platinum News.
Well Dominica is a Republic.
The news said Commonwealth of Dominica. Please read it did not say Dominican Republic.
he is from dominica, not dominican republic
HE IS FROM ST JOSEPH IN DOMINICA
He is from St. Joseph Commonwealth of Dominica. BVI news made a mistake. His Picture is on DNO and we know him.
@ Dominica
So you know where he is from. I know the Ferreira’s are from St. Joseph. I know them very well. I cannot place this man.
Over the weekend I wanted to telephone one of them who reside in Toronto but I got busy. I will talk to this person sometime. If Clyde is a close relative (and he may; who knows a brother), the family would already have heard about what happened to him.
Wasn’t wearing any glasses at the time u read huh?

O.O
please dominicans living or visiting overseas please be careful.too many of our pple getting killed in another man`s land thx god he will be ok
@ learner
We hope for the best. In this era of increased crimes, we never know what could happen. This could happen anywhere. There are times that people are going about their business and someone is being shot at. As they happen to pass by, they could innocently get shot, injured or killed by a flying bullet and even by police bullets. This has occurred a few times. People get injured and die in various ways be it also through accidents.
We must pray to God and ask Him for His Divine protection.
Im his Fren n I live TOLA n now I seeing this Wat a shame am check him today
what the heck are you saying man….english so we can understand plzzz
@ hmm
I also read it and had to re-read it. My first thought was, it is someone who cannot speak English properly. By the writing, I understood.
Understand that there are some people who live in DA and others who migrated abroad who are not able to read, write and spell. They are not proficient in the English language.
Anyone can purchase a computer. As I always say, these days nearly everyone owns a computer. If they decide to purchase one and when they go to the store to purchase one they are not asked if they know English or can read and write. They do not have to write an exam to purchase a computer. Therefore, be patient and give the person a break and understand the situation.
Those I would admonish and who, in my estimation, deserve it are the ones who criticize others about their writing and also spelling when they also make errors in writing. Some of them who comment on this Website are capable of doing that to the point of utilizing derogatory words and being disrespectful to those whom they do not know, calling them bigot, idiot and dotish, if they disagree with what they wrote as if they are more intelligent than them and know more than they know. I thought, due to DNO’s regulation, such language was not allowed on this Website. Recently I prepared a personal writing to that effect. I still have it in my archives.
HMMM – That’s not nice. Sometimes it is someone with a speech impairment who is learning to write as one person I know who was born with a speech impairment and was only able to write English after he moved to the BVI. He currently leaves there and based on his written notes on facebook, I won’t be surprised if this is him. He came a long way and I am proud of him. So don’t be quick to judge because there are many people facing these kinds of problems, as such, it is better to not criticize as we do not know the reason why the person wrote “differently”.
Why you people love to take other people tragedies and make it all about you??
You need help! Are you not a Christian? What did you learn from your parents and from religious instructions? You have much to learn.
Do you not know we are each other’s keepers? I like to add, to a certain degree, we are responsible for others.
It is understandably that those who also know him will have empathy for him who was shot and injured.
Where is your heart? Were you not given a heart? Or has it grown cold through the years? You project that you have no compassion for a fellow Dominican who is in this situation, even informing others that they should have no concern and feeling for the injured who is also their friend? For a human being, your heart is hard. You have a serious problem.
If you mean well, please write so we can understand.
This is not English what you wrote.
I am getting a headache in trying to understand your language.
Pa pa bon die!!!
who is bon again? when did he die?lol
Wow
