Tarish Pit resident Steven Giraudel, who in earlier April was convicted of stealing two files from the business place of J.E. Nassief, has again been caught stealing.
The 47-year-old man was arrested for the theft of two files amounting to EC$15.80 on April 5, 2012 at about 1:40pm.
He had entered the store of J.E. Nassief and was kept under close surveillance by the security officer who later saw him take two files, place them under his shirt and walk out.
Once outside he was approached by the officer and searched and the files found on him.
He was arrested, later pleading guilty in court, saying there that he was sorry.
Giraudel was fined EC$200.00 to be paid by April 30, 2012 , failing which he’d have to serve a one month jail sentence.
In the latest incident Giraudel, who usually assists Ruth Charles, an 84-year-old bedridden woman of River Street, had gone to the elderly woman’s house on May 18, 2012 to assist her and in return she gave him EC10.00 for his services.
However he stole from her refrigerator, 3lbs bull foot meat that she had.
Police prosecutor Claude Weekes told the court that all attempts by the elderly woman to get her meat from Giraudel met with futility.
Chief Magistrate Evalina Baptiste told him “what you did was very poor…she trusted you, you violated that trust, you took her food from her fridge, you could have asked her for it instead you deprived her and she paid you for your services”.
He was given a $1,400.00 suspended fine for two years, and warned that if he breaches that ruling he will go to jail for seven months.
Giraudel was also ordered to pay compensation of EC$40.00 to Charles for her meat by July 2, 2012.
If he fails to, he can expect to serve an eight-week jail term.
Shame on him taking advantage of a lady who is bedridden and stealing from her. This man who appears to be a chronic thief should be imprisoned for some months, if not a year. Just send him to prison without charging him. Where will he get the money to pay the Court?

Stealing is a sport and a lifestyle for a lot of people. My own husband steals from me and gives to his friends and thinks nothing of it. His friends come into my home and steal things while he watches and then he laughs about it, like being a thief is a joke. The young boys in the village steal and then wear what they steal in public in a small village – without shame or remorse. It seems to me that you get respect from your peers when you steal. Just like you get respect from your peers when you turn up pregnant at school. I’ve heard mothers encourage their daughters to get pregnant so they (the mother) can have a baby to take care of. Does”Integrity” exist in the place atal?
Oh my! How shocking! It is only a matter of time and they will pay for their errors and crimes. They cannot get away with it for too long.
in the case of the nassief story, how could he steal the files at about 1:40pm as stated, when Nassief closes everyday from 1-2pm for lunch? somefing isnt right.

Another one for a cage! repeat offender and taking advatnage of an elderly yep straight to a cage but hey this is DA and the incompetence in the judiciary and police force is mind buggling!

i find the cases the Court deals with are in large measure petty. what about the big cases involving fire bombing, money laundering, violation of the IPO Act, etc?
stealing isn’t petty silly fool. Place a thief under much pressure in someone’s home armed and he could become a murderer in a split second. When you disregard ‘petty crimes’ you’re infact contributuing to the avoidance of prosecution for the big crimes. So stop sounding ignorant and ask that all crimes be addressed and punished appropriately!

It’s not the value involved, its the principle of the matter. Where have our ethics and principles in this day and age. The fact is he robbed the old lady, it does not matter if it was worth 5cents, it DID NOT belong to him. Furthermore, this is someone she allowed into her home, who he was helping and got paid for his services. This is downright shame, and no monetary value can be placed on certain things and certain situations.

He should be made to pay her $1400. In any case throw dat in jail, each time you fine him and set him free with a deadline to pay a fine, is tief he tiefing and violating people. Just throw dat in jail for 3 years with community service. Is still tief he will tief to pay the fines. De enviege, she pay him and he should choke on the bull foot!
