Cops shoot man in operation; 100 pounds of cocaine seized

Police are confirming that a young man of Newtown is nursing a gunshot wound to his right leg at the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is now a patient.

He was shot by the police during an operation in the early hours of Monday morning in  Castle Comfort.

Acting Superintendent David Andrew said during the operation, 100 pounds of cocaine was discovered and seized from a Pajero jeep with four occupants at the time of their approach.

“One of the occupants made good his escape but the police successfully arrested the other three occupants, two of whom are Dominicans and the other a Jamaican” he said.

One of the men was shot while the police tried to apprehend him.

Andrew said all men will be charged with various offenses under the Drug Act while police continues their investigations.

Soulka is a big disappointment, he has seen the devastation that crack has had on his friends and family, the folks he’s played football with and yet he decides that the best way to earn a living is to participate in the genocide of the young people of Dominica. I always thought that Soulka was a righteous brother but he turns out to be a fraud, who would sell his soul for the almighty dollar. It pains me to say that Soulka is a poor excuse for a man, and I hope another man how is just as morally bankrupt as he is will not come along to poison his sons. Because Karma is a BITCH and it is usually our children who pay for our sins. Soulka I pray for your children, but I hope the put you away for a long long time.

  9. FORMER JD ROCKS PLAYER (Dominican) now LIVING IN NYC
    April 21, 2011

I know this footballer personally and he is not a criminal. That boy has a very big heart and he played his heart and soul in football for DOMINICA and got nothing in return. Couple years ago he had a contract with Dominica Football Association, which at the time he took out a loan and got a car. Two years ago he was forced to move to Anquilla for a short time as a player coach and a construction worker and he had to return back home because the work permit had expired. The point i am trying to get across is, this footballer(Solkie) is not a lowlifer or drug dealer. He has always tried to get a job especially when he think about his children. If he is caught in drugs today is because he wanted to make a living to support his children. I myself is a father of 5 children and I will rob, steal or kill to feed my children. I was very close with Solkie and he spoke to me a lot when it came to his circumstances and I can guarantee you that this is the FIRST time he ever did anything like this and was caught. You people cannot be too quick to judge and call names unless you were there. You all dont wait until someone falls on their faces to make a comment. Everyone deserves a second chance in life because well all mess up, it might not be for drugs but it can be for other things. What you all need to do, if you know him personally like I do, is to pray for his health and hope that everything works out and pray for his CHILDREN because they are the ones that are going to lose out but God is good because those children will eat. God takes care of his own. Because of POLITICS, it has had Solkie ended up the way he did because he has not been able to hold down a job. [SOLKIE, this message is for you, me and my family are praying for you and thank God that you are still alive. It could have been worse, your funeral could have been planned today, but it is not your time to go anywhere yet. I love you brother and you are genuine because you have a heart of gold and everyone needs to know that because they dont. Well SOLKIE, this should be a learning process for you, you tried this to feed your children, it didnt work and it was for a reason why it didnt come through. If it did, maybe it would be something you would get caught up in for the rest of your life because it was not for you, because you are not that kind of person and the Man above knows this]. As for WAY LAY LAY comment, you are his cousin and you said you know him well, but you dont because if you did, you would not say that he is a dissapointment, you would have known that this is the first time he has tried something like this and it is called survival. AGAIN, Solkie, I KNOW this was your first time you tried this and sorry to know you got caught, but be careful of the friends you keep, hold strong and hold tight and the good Lord will see you through. Every dissapointment is for a blessing. Now you know who your friends and enemies are. They say that blood is thicker than water, but when you are thirsty is not blood you ask for. One Love!

ok..we as citizens also have the biggest responsibility of giving the police the information they need, if we want our country to maintain a sense of security and stability in this quickly changing environment.I know its difficult to get leads and information from a public which is always quick to criticize but stands on the fence when they are most needed…crime prevention is very difficult when the men and women of the core..doesn’t get the numerations and incentives they deserve..its a risky job..without over time etc ..to avoid them from compromising the system….they need every thing to keep them in a straight line.

First.. them man that have means and ways of being the money cow for these drug dealers need to stop. secondly, those guy who paying for the powder need to stop taking the power, and yes, it more expensive than the crack they selling on the street. and did i forget to mention to say that the two above mentioned are usually business men money makers, high in society. next we need to sanitize the tranit workers who allow these thing to pass thorugh the legal way. shoul di go on, can i go on… this will never stop. drugs is all over and will be all over, the issue is the consuption rate. ppl consume cocain and marijuanna on a regular basis oall over the world an are still dignitaties in thier country. PPl need to me more motivated towards themselves or else they wil look for all the easy ways out. easy monrey, drug dealing. easy high, overdosing on cocain when really it is a recreational drug. pfftt… i pray for it to end but i checking my life still, clean and legally GREEN!!!! Solki boy, you are a massive disapppointment. You mean the death of Kamala and Papas’ meant nothing to you? You allowed yourself to duped by a man who today never leave the shores of Dominica but constantly entices lazy youths like you togo and do his dirty job for him. Why can’t you get a decent job?. Why didn’t you learn something (entreprenuership) from your erstwhile grand father or even your dad. See how hard he works, even at his age? Its honorable work. Now that you have disgraced your family and football fraternity (the yoyungsters in particular who you coach) in Newtown. What of your respected parents? Waht about your girlfriend and your own children? Can you look them in the face now? What will you and can tell them?

In Martinique the doctors would hase said that the leg cannot be saved, it is gangenous and take out right under your a………s. So that you will always remember that day. Infact the number of young people you have assisted in lazing around on the block plus perhaps a permanent limp might just assit you to get the better of your senses.

I am diasppointed, more ashamed of whay my family was involved in. We honestly thought you were more smart than the “big man”. Guess what the big man in Newtown who like to identify his haters in the newspaper is smiling and laughing at you. You are fool cousin.

As for the boat captain, here’s hoping that this situation will bring some reasoning to his haughty walk and bouncing shoulders. Come back down to earth. You have nothing up stairs. it is empty. That is why you chose an easy lifestyle over the other legal work as baot captain. You have nothing to show for all your “bounce”. The expensive vehicle does not even belong to you. Now we understand how you were able to maintain an SUV. See where your mother ended up on Monday morning. She could easily have gone to her rest. But then she still believes that the police is in the wrong. Police wrong you know. Her favorite child is never wrong. Somebody is making up the story oh her “Kert”.

Crime will only reduce when we decide to imposse harsh penaties on the crimals sought as the dead penalty. Believe me, no one wants to die! let`s ask ourselves a question, why do crimals hide to conment crimes? It`s because they don`t to be cut in order to pay for the crimes

    April 19, 2011

It really breaks my heart when I hear about the extent of drug trafficing, and crime rate in Dominica. I have not been home in a while and usually think of Dominica as the way It was when I left, so safe. I don’t remember ever locking our doors during the daytime and sometimes even at nights we would leave the doors unlock and never fear a thing. I know time has change and usually crime rate increase with development, but lord how I long for my country back, The one that I remember growing up on as a child, so safe, so beautiful and so peaceful.

catching these guys with the coke is very good, but the police/DPP have never successfully investigate, prosecute or convict anyone in a major concain bust in DA, so this is all a waste, black deals will be made and the public will forget that this ever happened very shortly and our former football star and the others will continue in their criminal activity with a raised profile in our society that seems to glorify criminals.

The police did a good job. At least there will be less illegal drug in circulation.
I am unable to comprehend that a Jamaican is involved. What is he doing in Dominica? Now that he is caught, he will be imprisoned and then deported back to Jamaica. In fact, he should be deported to Jamaica after the case is heard and into the arms of the Jamaican government and police and then admitted to the Jamaican prison to serve time. If he is allowed to stay in Dominica’s prison, it will be at a cost to Dominican taxpayers. Does Dominica have such an arrangement with the Jamaica government? I wished.
I hope, in time, the other escapee will be caught.

“The report points out to the large amount of cocaine being transited in Dominica from countries such as Venezuela. “The Dominica Police Force (DPF) estimates that 100-200 kilograms of cocaine are transited to Dominica from Venezuela each week,” the report said. “According to the DPF, this represents an increase in cocaine transiting the island.”

Good job by the DPF on intercepting this 100lbs!!
That means there’s still a lot of work to be done. With the help from people in the community, it can be done.

Stupid… Think for a moment, what do you think will happen if a Police officer is killed?… There’s gonna be a MASSIVE crackdown on criminals in this country, and when that happens You’ll regret ever thinking about police officers dying in this country.

The Gangstas in Jamaica thought they were untouchable, they killed a few police officers, now look what happens to the average drug dealing gangsta scum in Jamaica By the Police…

All over the World the Police can be considered as the biggest Gang in a Country in the sense that You cannot defeat them. Justice will always prevail.

fukeries will prevail. am glad u mentioned JA . if we got like JA .they must use beta and responsive tactics. dont tgink they’re jus gonna run up on suspected bloks n kill people. every neighbourhood in dominica has innocent persons, a few bad, a few confused, at least 3 police can die every other week here. AND THERE IS A FEWW CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES WHERE THE POLICE R NOT THE BIGGEST GANGSTERS ..WE ARE~!!!!!

  53. National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit
    April 18, 2011

The Police must be commended for their efforts in Supply Reduction. We at the NDAPU continue our work in Demand Reduction. However, we all must play our part as we are affected directly or indirectly. The United Nations office On Drugs and Crime stated”Society has a resposibility to protect children from drug . Home, school and playground should be safe for kids. As individuals and communities, pay attention to warning signs and address drug related problems. Get involve in keeping children and drugs apart!”

The drug problem should not be viewed as the work of law enforcement or NDAPU. Every citizen must play their part if we want Dominica to remain peaceful. Lets stoo being negative and give support to our police for doing a good job.
