Council on Aging wants stiff punishment for Giraudel killing

Marvlyn Robinson

The movement which looks after the welfare of the elderly in Dominica has sounded calls for a harsh punishment for those found guilty of killing a  senior citizen in Giraudel.

The Dominica Council on Aging, in a statement issued Tuesday, said no punishment is too severe for the perpetrators who killed 75-year-old Marvlyn Robinson at her home on Saturday.

The police said Robinson was severely beaten and stabbed several times and died on her way to hospital.

President of the Dominica Council on Aging, Evander Joseph, says no stone should be left unturned in investigating the matter and bringing those responsible to justice.

“I am disturbed at the sad news of the untimely death of one of our senior citizens. She was savagely and brutally murdered … this was an unprovoked death of an elderly, while at rest in resident. No punishment is too severe for those responsible,” he said.

“I want to congratulate the police for having dealt with this inhumane crime so expeditiously. I hope that the act committed by the offender haunt them down the rest of their lives,” he added.

Joseph also called on the police to provide adequate evidence when prosecuting the matter.

“There should be no room for an escape. Such offenders should not be allowed to roam this beautiful land of ours,” he said.

The police have charged 22-year-old Clarence Lewis from Newtown for the crime and have said that another man is assisting in the investigation.

it sadens me to see where my country have reached, should we be playing politics with crimes?too many people in Dominica like to talk too quick, befor reflecting on what they are saying. This nice lady’s death should not be mixed up with this petty politic. This statement by that ‘joseph man’is wrong without making mention of the Gon Emanuel situation, what these guys think that they control destiny?they not aware how simple their turn can come.See what’s going to happen from now on,there is to much hate in this island, this country is not safe.
GOD HELP THIS COUNTRY!! :-x

I care! Every national, everyone who resides in a country is obligated to that society and to help the society grow. This is another reason why we are born into the world and live in it. We have a part to play in society, a good part, to enhance it and not an evil one.
We are not here for ourselves and to live selfishly for ourselves. There are too many who are not playing their part. These are primarily, criminals/murderers.
The time is now ripe for Dominican residents and those who also reside overseas, all of us who love our country and want it restored to safety from the type of criminals/ murderers, the likes of which did not exist in Dominica in previous years, to do something concrete about it and to inform the government accordingly. This could be done in the form of petitions with signatures and peaceful rallies. You do know that when planning a rally, you must obtain a government permit. Let your voice be heard. There is action in numbers. Much can be accomplished when there is cooperation.
God is with you for He is a good and loving God of peace. He wants what is best for his children that, as they worship him and pray to him, they may live in love, harmony, dignity, peace and safety.
Please organize prayer gatherings/meetings and pray for this. You can pray daily and individually for peace and protection.
Wherever we reside, we will always love our country. We want what is best for it and for resident nationals. Those of us who reside abroad want for us, when we visit Dominica, our country, to be able to enjoy our stay, free of the fear of being robbed, attacked and murdered. This is our fear at this time. It is a deterrent for ever visiting our land of birth where we grew up.
We must not allow the government or anyone else to pull the wool over our eyes, to deceive us and say that Dominica is a peaceful and safe country and that such cases are isolated. You never know when and where criminals will strike and who will be targeted. As the devil, they possess his heart, influenced by him they do not sleep and are restless. They are too busy planning their next move on their victims. They are not at peace and therefore will not allow residents to live in peace.
From the criminal occurrences in Dominica, we cannot state that it is peaceful. Criminal activities disrupt our peace, peace of mind and peaceful life. Overall, they cause us to be fearful. This is no way to live in our nation and in the comfort of our homes.
The law-abiding people are frustrated with the court, the criminal process, the government and the length of time it takes to bring criminals to court. In the meantime, they are granted bail and having a rollicking time out in society, some to re-offend as some of their victims whom they murdered are lying in the grave, six feet deep. This is not fair to the country and its nationals. Worst yet to their victims who are deprived of their possessions which they worked hard for and some have been deprived of their life. Action is necessary. I reiterate, take action and organize a few rallies, prayerful ones at that, also singing songs of praise to God to urge the government and the court to take act on behalf of the safety of law-abiding nationals.
Let us keep praying for Dominica and for each other. May God put a hand to eradicate all evil, deadly elements from the Dominican society. May God bless and protect it and nationals against the evil forces which are out to destroy it including the peace and safety of nationals. May Our Lord Jesus Christ reign in the hearts and minds of all nationals. May God be praised at all times!

Keep in mind, “United we stand. Divided we fall.” Love, peace and unity.

    November 7, 2012

I agree with those who are pointing out that the Dominica Council on Aging should be consistent and should have spoken out on the GON Emanuel matter. But, if they missed that for whatever reason, they are now doing what is expected of them. Had they remained mute on another crime related to a senior citizen, this would have made them seem very ineffective, at least to me. It is not too late for them to make a statement on the GON Emanuel matter.

Most people over 40 years were prepared to work hard, make sacrifices and delay gratification all their lives. Most of the population under 40 years just do not want to do the same…they want it now at whatever cost. These people need to be taught a lesson. This lady must have worked all her life to achieve her material and non-material possessions and for her life to be snuffed out just when she was enjoying the results of her hard work? Our society must seek justice for this lady.

Whenever I think of what happened to Marvlyn, I shake my head and shed tears that she suffered at the hands of that thug, lowly person.
Many of you know that Marvlyn is from a well-known, decent family. What caused that thug to do such a thing to her?
I think of her beautiful face, a friendly, smiling person and think she did not deserve this type of death.
The devil is rampant and he has possessed the godless. This man is one of them. May justice prevail. May this wicked man never leave prison.

“The movement which looks after the welfare of the elderly in Dominica has sounded calls for a harsh punishment for those found guilty of killing a senior citizen in Giraudel.” Just a reflection………..are Don Emmanuel and his bride elderly persons in Dominica????????? I agree they should hand mista but what about SEko SEKo? isnt miser Mano and his wife elderly citizens too? where was the council on ageing? is it that Mister Mano’s case is so political that Mr Evander Joseph afraid to speak out? if so, i believe the council should have nofing to say; while i support the fact that this poor lady should be avenged, she did not trouble anybody, may her blessed soul rest in peace..

All cases should be properly investigated. The problem is, there are times the police has nothing and exceptionally so to go on. They cannot just opt out and arrest people. They must have concrete information and clues. Some people hide their traces that the police is at a loss to pursue the case. This occurs in every country, also progressive ones. God is patient. Have patience! You may be surprised to know that one day there will be a leeway. If the police never finds out, God knows who they are. They will not escape from God’s wrath and judgment. Have faith, hope and trust in God. Also, pray to God that the culprit(s) are caught. This may take years. I reiterate that rest assured they are already caught by God who knows, sees and hears all things and whom nothing is hidden from.

While i am in support for harsh punishment it must include all murders found guilty. This murder is not different from nurse dyrample son, or pa joe or the white man at pagua bay. The system need cleansing and a sound bail act.look at how brutal harderz was killed even though he was a trouble maker he did not deserve that. People were kidnapped and the prosecution and court allowed the victim to end the matter for 25 k. Where r we headed when we allow career criminals to use their ill gotten gains, strong legal and political connection to escape justice. Witnesses are not protected but we have poor people like toes injail for participation in a kidnapping when the perpetrators move around guadeloupe like they can do whatever they feel like with impunity.

The person convicted in the law courts must be punished to the full extent of the criminal law in accordance with the principles of the Constitution. No more,no less.Evander Joseph as an ex-senior police officer and high Roman Churchman must know this.

Kudos to you and the Council, it is time that interest groups start lobbying and making things happen in this country. Dominicans have been silent for too long, I do not know what kind of dust they sprinkling on them. Wake up people. Look at the world and move.

    • My 2 cents
      November 7, 2012

The Council of aging should also have come out and made a strong statement in December 2010 when Mr. & Mrs. Emanuel’s house was burnt on Christmas morning, as they too are senior citizens.
Mr. Joseph ought not to select on which senior citizen’s behalf to make a statement.

As a former (retired) senior police officer, Mr. Joseph, may I simply state that justice ought to prevail for all, not for some.

I totally agree. I knew Marvlyn well. She did not deserve this, not one bit of it.The question on my mind is….WHAT IS THE HARSH PUNISHMENT THAT EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT, LIFE IMPRISONMENT? Makes my skin crawl just thinking of what that Animal did to poor Marvlyn. He should suffer a slow painful death just like Marvlyn’s so he will feel what she felt when he was so violently and maliciously taking her life away from her. RIP Marvlyn Robinson.

He should never be released from prison until he dies and/or Judgment Day when God calls everyone for their judgment. My many words are insufficient to describe how I feel about him for what he did to Marvlyn.
