Death threats land man in jail

A Gullet River man has been sentenced to one year in prison for threatening to kill his sister and her lover.

Patison Joseph appeared before Magistrate Ossie Lewis where he pleaded guilty to three  threat offenses.

Those charges stated that Joseph told his sister Juline Joseph, “I going to beat you and roast you in your own house tonight,” on January 22, 2012.

On that same date he also told her boyfriend, Julien John Baptiste “anywhere I meet you I going to kill you.”

According to the case presented by a police prosecutor, the entire issue was triggered by an earlier argument between the siblings.

“I am going to chop you up and I must roast you in that house tonight,” said Joseph before the matter was reported to the police.

When confronted, the defendant told police that he was drunk at the time he made the threats.

“You pulled out a cutlass from under your shirt . This is very serious…you’re a very dangerous man” Magistrate Lewis told the defendant before pointing to his long list of convictions, some of which are of a similar nature.

Joseph was sentenced to one year for each charge, to run concurrently.

Since becoming executor to my fathers will
My wife and I have had restraining orders and judgments in our favour by 4 judges to ‘protect’ our home and family which includes our 4 children.
In spite of these, the perpetrators have been rewarded by the police and the magistrates court system.
They have ignored the high court orders and the perpetrators have continued dozens of violent attacks, threats, attempted murder, arson, vandalism, theft of our property, killing our animals, selling our assets and assets in the will…even bold enough to document, email and text us threats. The only time the police took it serious was when in august 2010 one of the perpetrators sent his dog to attack a police officer who came to question him about a cutlass attack against one of my employees and I.
It took two days to arrest him and he was out on $3000.00 bail the next day despite already being on bail on firearms offences, threats to shoot our children with a firearm, and theft since 2008.

Threatening lives, if only one, is a serious offense. He has had previous similar convictions. This man is a menace to society and a disturbance to the peace, health and welfare of people; bad enough his own family and in-law. I do hope he will be able to receive rehabilitation. Otherwise when he is released from prison, he may be such an angry man that he may just carry-out his threats.
Government beware and do something about him. Prior to his release, he should be examined by a psychiatrist to determine whether he is fit to be released. This is how the Law should be operated. It is to protect society, no exception his very own family.

It’s amazing how dear threats gets people incarcerated however Individuals who discharge firearms indiscriminately roam free. The judicial system in DA is perverted.

The gentleman was carrying a cutlass when threats were made.

If the law did nothing and those threats were acted upon what would your comment be?

      @ Homeboy

If you are a national resident, do something about it. Contact your politician and the government. Otherwise nothing will be done. Too many people talk and write but they do absolutely nothing. How can you expect changes to be effected in DA if you do not play your part as a national? Do so peacefully. In addition, pray for your country and nationals as you, hopefully do for yourself and for your needs.

I do not blame you for making this comment. By the decision of DPP in the affair of the woman who murdered her two children who appears to have evaded the hands, jurisdiction, conviction and sentence of the DA Law through DPP, it appears so.

YEAH! Lock him up and add another year for being under the influence while threatening these people, as well. What a sorry excuse!! “…drunk at the time he made the threats.” Rum should be an illegal drug in our country.

    • T. Winston
      January 27, 2012

Rasta weirdly enough I back that eno. Rum should be illegal as it alters man’s perception and makes him act irrationally after excessive consumption, just like weed, cocaine, lsd, and all the other drugs. Is not because white man incharge of it that it should be legal. I say let tobacco be illegal too. All white man’s tools to destroy us should be banned

      January 28, 2012

      @ Rastafari

He needs to be locked up at least for a while to clear his head, temper and evil actions.
Under the influence is no excuse for threatening and harming others. Some people cannot contain their anger and temper when they have a few drinks. As for not selling liquor, it is too late for that. People must restrain themselves. I often wonder why do they not go to their home or drink at their home and sleep it off.
Only God will put a hand and eliminate all immorality which is a menace to society. This includes those who think they can dominate people of the world with their religion and beliefs and that their Islam and/or Rastafarian so-called religion/ beliefs is better than others.
All have failed and all have fallen short of God’s glory.
This man is to be pitied. Hopefully he can be rehabilitated, otherwise woe to those whom he knows and others whom he does not know. It is left to the government system and process. You, too, as a DA national can do something about that. More work – action – and less talk.

      @ tiny

I do not disagree with you. He may also not have had appropriate parental nurturing as also not having a father figure in the home. Does he know who his father is?
He may also have been a disobedient child who did not accept parental discipline.
On the other hand, too often many parents did not have the upbringing and education on how to discipline children. They would shout at them and even threaten them with a beating if they did not conform to their will.
It is important that we reflect on his upbringing and the cause why today he is acting in such a manner. This may determine his attitude as an adult today.
He should be examined by a psychiatrist and given some help to assist him to change and become an amicable national.
People must not blame you for your comments. You do have a good point. I commend you for that and your insight. God bless you Tiny! Whatever hurt you may be harboring from childhood may He heal them. I wish you well.
