Elwyn Jules of Newtown shed tears while exiting Magistrates’ Court this morning after standing bail for his grandson, accused of grievous bodily harm.
The elderly man told Magistrate Gloria Augustus that his grandson, Telford George Jr., visited him some time ago to ask whether he could live with him, however at the time he could not accept him.
George, a young man believed to be in his twenties, is facing a charge of grievous bodily harm on Denny Leblanc. He now resides at Stockfarm West.
“To tell you the truth, he come for him to live with me. I tell him I going through a process, I cannot take him in yet,” Jules, a veteran fisherman, recalled.
Jules, seemingly downhearted, said his grandson only visits when he needs him. However,he assured the court he would try his utmost to ensure George shows up for his court appearances.
“The magistrate before me set the bail sum at $15,000. If he fails to appear, we’re sending a summons to look for you…” Magistrate Augustus told the distraught fisherman.
She warned George not to interfere with the victim Denny Leblanc. “No interference please; not to watch him, not to pass by him because it will always have some problem about who watch who.”
George’s condition of his bail is that he reports to the Police Headquarters every Monday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“If you don’t [go], you will be putting your grandfather in problems,” Augustus told George.
She said she has cautioned George about his behaviour before, adding “The last time I talk to him, I talk to him for how long in the hot sun.”
While exiting the courtroom with his grandson, Jules remarked sadly that George’s mother was abroad attempting to file for residency for him.
The matter was adjourned to March 22, 2010.

They have to bring in the cat-o-nine to Dominica, serious corporal punishment, so some of those young boys that think they bad and brazen can be made an example of, good lashes for all them till they cannot sit or lie down for a month.
