Dominican goes on trial in Antigua

The High Court in Antigua

A Dominican is to go on trial in Antigua as the January Criminal Assizes in that country gets underway.

The media in Antigua reports that Rohan Telemaque is accused of knocking down a man on Fort Road on the island on January 6, 2009.

He is facing a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

It is reported that the incident was a hit-and-run as Telemaque allegedly left the victim on the scene and days later tried to leave the country for Dominica.

Telemaque was already on plane when he was arrested and taken off by the Antiguan police.

It is understandably that they will panic. Some do especially when their license is revoked or they do not have a driver’s license and are also prohibited from driving for a few years due to other convictions.
If he did not rank among the above, why did he flee? Those who flee from the scene of an accident, worst yet when injuries or death occur they will be more severely dealt with. It will be even worst for those who held a prominent position in the public sector. He should have known better to remain at the scene of the accident and telephone the police. Fleeing make him suspicious and guilty. He should also have known that he probably would not escape from this. He may spend time in prison.

SOME PEOPLE ARE SO GOOD THINKERS ,THEY THINK THAT A MAN OR A WOMAN CAN PANIC,BECAUSE THEY HAVE A CERTAIN DEGREE OF MENTAL ILLNESS SO MUCH THAT THEY CAN THINK WELL ENOUGH TO LEAVE SOME ONES CHILD ON THE GROUND AFTER THEY HAVE KNOCKED DOWN THAT PERSON , GO HOME ,MAY BE HE OR SHE HAD OR DID NOT HAVE A GOOD REST; BUT WITH ALL THAT MENTAL ILLNESS AND PANIC ,YOUR HEAD IS RIGHT ENOUGH TO GO AND BUY A PLANE TICKET TO GET AWAY TO YOUR HOME LAND .
THERE ARE SO MANY YOUNG MEN IN DOMINICA WHO HAVE COMMITTED BIG CRIMES AT THE MOMENT IN OTHER COUNTRIES THEY THINK THAT THEY ARE UNTOUCHABLE .IN THE VILLAGE OF PICHLIN RIGHT NOW THERE ARE TWO BROTHERS WHO KILLED A DOMINICAN BOY IN GUADA AND TOOK THE BOAT NEXT DAY TO DOMINICA…WE WILL UNDERSTAND HOW BAD THIS IS WHEN IT WILL TOUCH US PERSONALLY…GOOD LUCK

I do not beleive Dominicans at home and abroad are an uncaring people. But the comments that are posted here reflect. It is rather unfortunate that this would happen to anybody much less a Dominica living in a foreign country.

I am sure all of us want justice not only for the dead man but also for our own citizen. What ever the facts of the case are, let s pray that justice will be done. That justice may well see our country man spend some time in jail in a foreign country and then deported. Good luck Mr. Telemacque.

Remember folks, every case must be heard and decided based on its own merits. The Dominican case (Ian Didier) might seem familiar or similar. Are the facts the same? By the way that matter may still be on in the court system.

While I do not condone this behavior a lot of you are saying if it were you what you would do! In the heat of the moment none knows what would be done. There are many instances of hit and run and most times the individual causing the accident panics.
So let’s not be too judgmental!!

Boarding a plane to flee the island was days later not “in the heat of the moment.” Get real. Right is right! Is not your family he knock down.

True, all of us react differently in different situations in the heat of a moment. Not long ago, a woman hit and run somewhere up in the Louisville area.

But, MY GOD, the heat of the moment passes. If , after you’ve had time to collect yourself and you’re trying to run away, you’re a damn criminal.
      !!!!!

Homeboy, i understand your point,do not be judgemental, however to kill someone by hit and run,and then try to leave the country, this is murden baby. He is too dumb to be out of dominica, he needs to stay where all the stupid people are.

an accident occuurred, the right thing to do is report the matter and assist the authorities in their investigations while making yourelf available to the family of the deAD MAN. ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE ANTIGUA CAN BE READ AS A DELIBERATE COLLISION WITH THE DEAD. GOOD LUCK.

i agree with you C.B leaving the scene of an accedent is grounds for getting arrested. once again he has bought shame on Dominicans and himself.jail him and send him back to dominica to plant fig.

  20. January 26, 2012

I DRIVE . IF ONE DAY I HIT SOMEONE I WILL STOP TO TAKE CARE OF THAT PERSON WHETHER HE OR SHE IS ALIVE OR NOT BECAUSE ACCIDENTS HAPPENS NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL WE CAN BE IN LIFE ;IT TAKES ONLY ONE SECOND.
RUNNING AWAY AND TRYING TO TAKE THE PLANE TO YOUR COUNTRY IS PURE WICKEDNESS AND A CRIMINAL ATTITUDE.
HE WOULD CONTINUE ON HIS NASTY BEHAVIOUR EVEN IN HIS COUNTRY BECAUSE HE THINKS THAT IF HE ESCAPES ONCE HE WILL A SECOND TIME.
MAKE HIM PAY FOR BEING SO NASTY BECAUSE THIS DEAD PERSON HAS A FAMILY ALSO.
