Dramatic photos from Europe’s largest street festival in west London caught a knife-wielding thug fleeing from cops moments after stabbing a man.
In one photo, taken at the Notting Hill Carnival on Monday night, the thug, dressed in a blue sweatshirt and clutching a 6-inch hunting blade, dodges a Good Samaritan’s attempt to trip him as he sprints from the scene.
His victim stands dazed and bloodied in the background, while shocked revelers look on.
Moments later, the 20-year-old victim collapses against a wall in a pool of blood, and a second photo shows an officer pressing against a wound in his stomach.
DNO has learnt that the man is of Dominican ancestry with grandparents from the village of Dos Dane. It is reported that his name is Rio André.
It is reported the perpetrator has been arrested.

The stabbings in the Notting Hill Carnival is nothing new. Some ignorant guys use Carnival as a time to kill their enemies they have a grudge match with or grievance with… It is a well known fact that Black on Black murder crimes has been reportedly done 8/10 times by men of Jamaican descent or were Jamaican nationals. And I know from personal experience that some Jamaicans (not all) have a morbid hatred of Dominicans. Throughout my adult life, most of my problems were caused by Jamaicans; and if they do not succeed, they will get a Dominican to do it – and some Dominicans are as stupid as hell, that they would not think twice to kill their own! By the grace of God, I came out alive without having to lift a finger… The criminal who stabbed this man of Dominican descent, would definitely not be of Dominican descent. The criminal is most probably a wanna-be-Yardie (a gangster who sells drugs).
Can’t agree with that, the Jamicans/Yardies were focused on the money, they’re the reason most of the weed got into London and other parts of England early on. Most Black on Black crime only started when British Born gangster started growing to the age where they could contest the Yardie, this is the late 70’s early 80’s, and when West Africans began to migrate to the UK in the mid 80’s, we can’t forget the main reason, Crack. The Crack epidemic came about in the mid-late 80’s, this led to British born Caribbeans to capitalize on the trade and eventually wipe most of the yardies out.
It’s kinda ignorant for you to say that most Jamaicans hate Dominicans, when in truth, most Caribbeans got nothing but love for each other, and advocate for more unity especially due to fact that West African are hostile towards us, and have been on this nationalism ting this past decade. Us Caribbeans need to search for things that unite us, not divide us.

Even if as a Muslim I believe that carnival is wrong in the sight of Allah, this useless stabbing is just so wrong. We hope the victim and his family heal from this ordeal and gets the justice they deserves.

its alleged that Marpin recorded a murder live in the act during one carnival and however, the recording cant be used in the court as evidence since the law doesnt have provisions for such clear evidence..sighs!
Same thought occurred to me! In London the police lifted the alleged perpetrator from his bed early the next morning and have him in custody. What happened in Dominica’s case?

There are loads of ‘other’ possibilities such as ‘other’ charges, possibly lesser or private prosecutions and civil cases which are often overlooked, but costly – though still worthwhile if you are looking for some recourse where the rule of law fails…
Al Capone went down over tax irregularities – and it seems to be rule of thumb in Dominica at the moment to hit ‘criminals’ in the pocket…but there are many ‘other’ ways within the constraints of the law to ‘stiff’ the guilty if you really really can be bothered and if you feel the Crown Prosecution Service or such like let you down!!
I believe your talking about the “Issa Alleyne” case where he is alleged to have murdered a young Wayne Dalrymple during carnival a few years back. I believe it was SAT who had it on film and Mr. Alleyne’s case was thrown out and he is living free and clear in another caribbean Island with Wayne’s blood on his hands. One day he will have the audacity to come back thinking most people “forgot” or “not checking that” but I know his mother most certainly has not.

Crime is everywhere. Not Dominica alone.
His name is Rio André a 20-year-old university student. He’s studying computer science at the University of Hertfordshire and lives with his parents in north-east London. His grandmother is from Dos Dane but both his parents are believed to have been born in the UK.
He has one sister, a university graduate and several cousins and other relatives in Paix-Bouche (an aunty), Portsmouth and Roseau. He’s a first class student and is reported to have been minding his own business when he and a close friend were set-upon by a group of youths they did not know resulting in his assault.
Despite 6,500 police at the three-day event and based on photographic evidence Rio was attacked in full view of officers believed to have been bused-in from Wales (in the west of UK).
Sources close to the family say Rio will have surgery on his abdomen and his right hand both of which suffered damage during the attack. He is likely to remain in a central London hospital for some time.
Hundred’s of friends and well-wishers have been leaving messages on his Facebook page (Rio ‘Lighty’ Andre). Hospital sources say the popular scholar and athlete, who is expected to miss at least the start of the October university semester, could require months to convalescence.

yup – I saw this story a couple hours ago in the NY Daily News online. Terrible. It’s sad to say but a significant percentage of our youth today have no respect for human life (I am not going to say all because it would be wrong to paint them all with the same brush). But the facts are, a lot do not respect the life of others; they’re quick to draw a weapon. Gone are the days of a fight when there were issues to be settled. I am not going to say that instances of violence like this has never happened in the past, they have, but the prevalence of it in society is so common that it is hardly shocking anymore. And that is why I don’t take much chances with them either. I have significantly modified my social life to exclude places where there may be an overwhelming amount of them – like sewo fetes. I like to party but I not going places where they run mas’ in a dance – mas’ is for carnival, on the street, not in a party where I go enjoy myself with my woman. When I go out I want to have fun, have a few drinks, party nice – I don’t want to encounter anyone or group of people running mas’ and boowayin people to get them out of the way – and if you resist, they want to stab you or shoot you. I eh in dat. So I stay away and avoid those situations – but if it come to me, I not taking chance – I will bwile one before they knife me.
Boy arrested over Notting Hill Carnival stabbing

LONDON — A 16-year-old boy on Tuesday became the fifth person to be arrested over the stabbing of a 20-year-old man at London’s Notting Hill Carnival.
The victim was found at Ladbroke Grove, on the fringe of carnival celebrations, at around 6pm on Monday with stab wounds to his hand and abdomen. Police say he is in a serious but stable condition.
Widely circulated photographs show a man in a dark blue hoodie running from the scene with a knife in his hand as crowds look on. The victim, a light-skinned black man, can be seen in the background with blood seeping through his striped t-shirt.
Police are keen to speak with another man who is seen in the pictures attempting to trip the suspect up as he flees the scene.
Four men — three 20-year-olds and a 21-year-old — had already been detained in connection with the stabbing before Tuesday’s arrest. The five remain in custody at various London police stations.
The incident cast a shadow over the carnival, which had largely passed off peacefully despite fears of unrest following this month’s riots.

Don’t know if there is any Dominica connection but his parents visited him in hospital yesterday. Rgds.

How very sad!! Like Rio, I flew my Dominica flag on both days of The Notting Hill Carnival as I do every year. This young, obviously ambitious young man from original Dominican Soil was stabbed whilst enjoying himself, proudly sporting his Dominica Flag.
