ST. KITTS – A police officer has been dismissed from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police after pleading guilty to making a false statement and discreditable conduct, sknvibes.com online newspaper has reported.

The charges stemmed from a false report the officer, Constable Julius Andrews made while he was on duty at Government Headquarters on Church Street, Basseterre on Friday, April 30, 2010, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper states that the recruit is from Dominica, but sources say the officer is originally from Grenada.

Sknvibes.com further reported:

“The officer reported that two rounds of ammunition were fired at the building, which caused him to return fire with his service revolver.

“However, according to a police press release, “Investigations were carried out, which included a series of ballistic tests on the service revolver used by the said officer as well as on the single bullet recovered from the scene, As a result of the investigation, two disciplinary charges were preferred against the officer concerned, namely, making a false statement and discreditable conduct.”

“The release also informed that the officer pleaded guilty to both charges and he was subsequently dismissed from the force.

“The Police High Command hopes that incidents of this nature will not recur and wishes to reinforce its zero tolerance on such acts of ill discipline, which are unacceptable in the Police Force,” the release stated.

“It further stated that the police regret the occurrence of the incident, which created an atmosphere of heightened insecurity in the public’s mind, and “wishes to assure the residents and citizens of the Federation of its commitment to maintain discipline within its ranks and peace and security within all of our communities.”

“On Saturday, May 1, 2010, a release issued by the police read, “On Friday 30th April 2010 police responded to a report of shooting which occurred at approximately 11:00 pm at Church Street in the vicinity of Government Headquarters. According to police reports shots were fired from a vehicle travelling down Church Street and the police on duty at Government Headquarters returned fire. No one has been reported injured. The scene has been processed by officers of the Crime Scene Department.”

kudos to the Police force for taking decisive action against the irresponsibility of this police officer. I hope that the Dominica Police Force takes a page of the method of investigation and discipline. too often in Dominica we hear about the irresponsibility and lack of proper procedure by the Police, but we never hear the outcome of the investigation. I believe that the Public will come to trust the Dominica Police Force when we see and read that those found wanting in the Police Force is held accountable for their action.

Until such time the notion of community policing and the public assisting the police will fall on death ear. Police are human beings and some are imperfect and do wrong. we need to hold those who do wrong accountable, like what the St.Kitts Police Force did.

Inspector Weekes these are some of the issues that need to be addressed from within, before you call on the public to assist the Police. We want to know we are assisting fair and good police Officers. Please give us that confidence.

Wat the hell is wrong with we Dom-in-a-can? Aren’t we ever gonna wake up and realise that we need to be responsible? So now i guess he is coming home to sit on whosoever account, i don’t know. These things cant be right. when we get opportunities to better ourselves and make a life of our own we throw it away, then we and others come crying things are hard and we blame everyone except ourselves. Too much non-sense. Our young people need to make the right decisions and think RIGHT.
