Drug bust in Pointe Michel/Loubiere

Police are reporting a drug bust in the Point Michel/Loubiere community on Wednesday.

Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kent Mathew said five men have been arrested in the incident.

“The drug squad arrested five men and seized one Mitsubishi Challenger jeep and one open-keel boat powered by two 85 Yamaha outboard engine in connection with the importation of a quantity of cocaine,” he said.

The drug has an estimated a street value of $320,000. An undetermined quantity of ganja was also found in the vehicle.

The new PRO reported further that the jeep held a registration number that was already assigned to a government-owned vehicle of similar type.

Stop blaming the supplier, blame the users. It’s basic economics of supply and demand. If nobody were to buy the drugs, then nobody would sell them. Drug awareness needs to start in kindergarten and pre-school. Primary school is too late.

Also besides the occasional burglaries to facilitate drug purchase, most of the users are affluent and wealthy members of our society who have discretionary income to feed their habit.

Sting operation is in the making so if you are one of these wealthy drug users,,you are being watched. You will be caught and dealt with, now for now!

pestina let go dem man.two o them cannot be found.the police give back the owner of the vehicle to him.whereare we heading ivor, the bishop, the president and senior civil servants who are keeping their mouth shut for a few dollars

  6. REASONING
    September 2, 2011

The vehicle should taken by the state and never to return to those drug dealers, there should be no bail for them, they should be fined all the money they own and be given long prison term, maybe life or even execution. These criminals are a menace to the world and destroying lives.

our tourist season finished since march . do you ever ask yourself where the foreign currency comming from? the man made law of the earth is what make drugs wrong no substance does harm unless abused. We walk into the rum shop daily and see the damage alcohol doing to people but then the man made law say its ok so its not a problem. We just need to educate ourselves and the leaders needs to put things in place so when our younger heads graduate they can find jobs or else we will forcefully create more hustlers on the street

It is clear that this problem is far from being solved, things will stay just as they are. NO matter how much parents try to teach their children, it will remain, even with stiffer penalties IT WILL STAY THE SAME. Until Dominicans are ready to give JUST And TIMELY COMPENSATION for HONEST WORK the illicit trade will always be more attractive than an honest job with shitty pay, where the cost of living is going up. The Christians and hypocretes won’t like my comment, unlike them I have friends who are involved in this kind of life, and this is part of the root of the problem from what I know first hand. Parents who work hard for next to nothing, I know how hard it is to convince your children that this is the way to live. Especially when they see how u Sometimes have to stay without to give them. While Mr bigs making 100s of dollars per day. Stop being hypocritical man.

DNO, can you please be a bit more professional in your article? Ganja instead of marijuana or even the scientific name? Come on!!

ADMIN: ganja [ˈgɑːndʒə] (n) a highly potent form of cannabis, usually used for smoking. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ganja

How difficult is it to manage a population of 70,000? How difficult is it to manage a village? To my knowledge every other village in Dominica has a police station served by police officers. Don’t they ever see these vehicles with fake plates? Then I guess they need to do more street patrol. Do some community policing! Do some policing for Christ sake!!

On the flip side, parents need to do a better job in raising their children. Please instill some values in them. Drug dealers have and always will be part of society. The devil does not rest. Satan will always have disciples. We as parents need to teach our children morals and values. We need to teach them that material things are wants not needs. We need to teach them to live within their means and to work for what they want. The drug dealers sell the get rich quick story and it works. Young people indulge for the money. The others who have no self esteem use the drugs with no purpose. They think it is cool, it will make them feel good. NOOOO!!!

This is also a reminder for teenagers that they are not ready for having children. It is a monumental task to raise a child. Even some adults do a poor job at parenting. My advice is to wait and if you have a child, seek help when needed. I still believe it takes a village to raise a child.

With all this said, I hope the authorities do their part to keep these monsters off our streets.

Yes, there are short-comings but that’s no reason to prejudge and put down someone you do not even know.

The first step to combating any illicit trade at any level is identifying all the factors attributing to its proliferation.. that means both the PUSH and the PULL factors must be factored into the potential solution….. those who can understand the English that I am speaking can potentially help solve the problem. those who do not….are in denial and therefore PART OF THE PROBLEM…..I CANT STAND HAVING TO BREAK DOWN EVERYTHING TO KINDERGARTEN LEVEL FOR GROWN PEOPLE WHO SUPPOSEDLY ARE PAYING INTERNET USERS. I agree that the Drug Dealers killing the youth with this s&%t. but those who hold the means of production and the money to create employment are also assisting in “killing” the youth. by making this kind of lifestyle more attractive to young people, than holding honest and GAINFUL employment. Don’t misinterpret my comment and think for a second that I condone either of these TWO evils.
