High court Judge Victoria Charles-Clarke has slapped a $60,000 fine on Greenidge Foster of Dublanc who pleaded guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm with intent on Adrien Carbon on July 7, 2013 in the community.
The attack was described as “unexplained.”
According to the facts of the matter, on Sunday July 7, 2013 Carbon was sitting on a bench close to the riverside under a mango tree with his brother and friends at Dublanc Feast.
Foster approached him and asked him where he was from.
Carbon questioned why Foster wanted to know where he was from and it had nothing to do with him
Foster then rushed at Carbon with a knife and stabbed him four times in the back.
Carbon’s brother pushed Foster off Carbon but Foster tried to attack him also.
Carbon fell and shouted for help while his brother ran to get his bus.
Bleeding profusely, Carbon was rushed to the Portsmouth Hospital, fainting twice on the way.
He was transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and underwent emergency surgery and remained on the Alford Ward for 10 days.
A report from Dr. Julian De Armas stated that Carbon sustained serious injuries to his spine and lung along with several other injuries.
Before sentencing Foster, Justice Charles-Clarke said violence is a very serious matter which has a negative effect on society.
The attack by Foster on Carbon, she said, was “totally unprovoked and unexplained.”
Foster, she said. must accept full responsibility for his conduct.
In his response, Foster said he was having a few drinks and there was no excuse for his behavior.
The judge said Foster is remorseful and pleaded guilty at the earliest but the court must show its abhorrence for such crimes.
She said that such crimes deserve a custodial sentence but given the fact the Carbon is now not able to work, is dependent on his sister and walking with crouches, such sentence will not help and Foster is better served with paying compensation.
Foster did say he was willing to apologize to Carbon but his apology was rejected.
He was fined $5,000 to be paid in 3 months or in default 2 years in jail.
He is to pay compensation of $55,000 in compensation to Carbon. Ten thousand dollar must be paid by November 30, 2016; ten thousand by April 30, 2017; ten thousand by October 30, 2017; ten thousand by December 30, 2017 and fifteen thousand by June 30, 2018 or in default of any payment, he will go to jail for 12 months.
Seriously thats all now a healthy young man is crip and could be working and support his family. For nothing. The guy should have to support him until he die.
What is 12 months for such a barbaric act?? I’m calling on Mr. Carbon to bann all these so-called activities forthwith,,nonsense!!
Can’t work or walk properly and this guy is given a 55k fine??? wow… No wonder people take matters into their own hands these days
Mr. Carbon could have died.
I don’t know what ”with intent” means in Dominican law. But in Canada Mr. Foster could have been charged with attempted murder.
I am not denying there was a natural cause or that a mental illness was involved. But I expect the attack was also due to sudden demonic influence.
Let us pray for Mr. Carbon’s rapid and complete recovery. I encourage you to also pray for Mr. Foster’s
deliverance. Christ is the great physician for body and soul. The message He gave still has power to save and it changes lives today.
Please read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17,18
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
…………….is so i go dublanc a night and this guy just walk up infront me and asking me to pull my cigarette…when I say no he crossed the road and pull out his knife and stood there watching me and my female friend….but that night he would have been so unlucky he would have wished that he never set eyes on us…I got a cutlass in my car…I would not kill him but i would have use the back of that cutlass and put more breaks in his two hands than a shattered windscreen…his hands would stay like spagetti…
lolz lolz lolz lolz kolz
DNO this is not a duplicate. If it is, where is the original and the duplicate?
This man was something else. He approached the man and asked him where he is from. When he responded which is his right, he attacked him. Wicked man. He had the devil in him.
The man is maimed for life. His attacker really should have been sentenced to prison and when he is released, he should compensate him.
When will some people mind their business, live amicably in peace with others, have respect and for the life of others? Such people need to be rehabilitated.
If he fails to pay any of the amount he will be imprisoned for one year. One year is insufficient for what he did to the other man.

I think the man should get more compensation. regardless of whether u were drunk or not, you cannot just approach someone, ask them where they are from and when you don’t get a good response, stabbed the person. he did not have any previous problem with the guy. he just met the guy sitting. Now the guy is damaged for life with spine injuries and $60,000 was suppose to help? I would have charged him 100,000 compensation yearly for six years and every time he fails to pay a year, he gets two years jail. He will keep on taking jail for the rest of his life because that compensation must be paid. wicked soul!
Well we should probably start advocating for more mental availability and put some more emphasis in that area. There are members of society who need help.
Dominicans watching too much tv. Mental health ki sa. Forster has nothing wrong with him besides his affection for rum and argument. Stop making excuses for people behaviour.
Mentally ill people allowed to roam the streets carrying a weapon, and accountable to nobody This is not the first such case we’ve read of in DNO.
Apart from a jail cell is there a facility where Mr. Foster will receive treatment until he is found no longer a threat to society Will this man even be seen by a psychiatrist
Actually the problem is much deeper. Mr. Foster needs to come under the ministry of a pastor experienced in deliverance. All he needs is to have a demon cast out and he would be just as ”normal” as anybody else. Somebody needs to lead him to Christ that he might be ”born again”, and then take authority over the dark forces that have possessed him by commanding them to leave in the name of Jesus, name above all names!
People will ridicule me. But until they have fifty plus years of international deliverance behind them or something better to offer let them hold their peace.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
Regardless of jail time he should be made to compensate mr. Carbon starting now!
Regardless of jail time he should be made to compensate mr. Carbon
The sentencing in Dominica’s so-called courts of justice is just ridiculous
That’s like a little horror flick..don’t blame the Rum though, blame the Man!! Sorry for the Victim..how unfortunate
LOL @ our judiciary system, or the lack thereof.
awa wi boy. Dominica not yet ready.
That’s a jacked-up system. So if this man has the money he does not go to jail, but if he does not he goes to jail?
so sending him to jail how will that benefit carbon who cannot work for himself?he would sit in the jail eat and drink from alyou tax money and carbon would still be sick and not get a dime? good call judge. although i think the fine should be more.
I cant see the logic with regards to your comment
The attack was senseless and on calculated.
