Earl Williams freed of IPO charges

Williams

Former Parliamentary Representative for Salisbury, Earl Williams was freed from all charges concerning his failure to make public declaration of his assets before the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) Commission.

The charges were dropped Monday morning when the Director of Public Prosecution Jean Pestaina appeared before Magistrate Evalina Baptiste to request their withdrawal.

“The matter has obtained notoriety and is an exercise in futility as a result of which we wish to withdraw the matter,” Pestaina said referring to media coverage of the case.

Williams, a former leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP), along with several other politicians and senior public officers including the Speaker of the House Alix Boyd-Knight, former head of the Criminal Investigation Department Antoine Defoe and Chairman of the Board of the Dominica Broadcasting Station Aurelius Jolly were all charge for failure to furnish IPO with asset declarations for 2009 before the end of March last year.

Several of the accused public officials, including Antoine Defoe, appeared in court last week while others are expected to appear during the course of this month.

The UWP had candle light vigil to implement the IPO they got it and they are not happy. they ask for observers for the general election they got it and still not satisfied. Earl Williams was the leader of the opposition then so you can see the hypocrisy he was found wanting

Lets make some sense here. Ok so he did a few dispeakable things.. He was cleared on the charges. We seem to forget that he has also helped loads of Dominicans who needed help at the time he was in office. I am no fan of UWP and there reps but we need to focus more on the actual CRIMES plaging DA. The murder rate is atrocious and the people commiting these crimes see to be getting a mild pat on the hands.. Priority people… Let’s help our people by being better people.
REMEMBER: People in glass houses should not throw stones.

The words “freed of all charges” somehow do not appear to be correct since they seem to suggest that he appeared before the courts and was found not guilty of whatever he was accused of. It’s like telling me that if I commit a crime and I disappear I am free of all charges. One can say that the charges against him remain pending, not that he is “freed” of the charges.

Nice thatyou pointed out to/for the shallow one( of which seems to be the majority)including those who first set it into motion and by extension those who propagate it.
Had it not been clarified any of UWP’s gullible idiots would state: He knew how to cover his tracks.”
I guess when those buffoons in gov’t currently will have to skip DA, they will have learnt from this fugitive how to cover their already long expose rear ends.

“The matter has obtained notoriety and is an exercise in futility as a result of which we wish to withdraw the matter,” Pestaina said referring to media coverage of the case.?????????. Why not use this same reasoning to drop charges for all the other individuals…
