Police Chief Cyril Carrette has confirmed that an investigation has been launched into alleged assassination threats against former Prime Minister Edison James.
Carrette told a press conference this morning that when the superintendent attempted to get a comment from James, he declined.
“The Superintendent informed me that he called Mr. James on the telephone and arranged an appointment. They did meet and James said he was not involved in the prime minister’s political gimmick and James did not give a statement into the matter,” he said.
Carrette said however police are treating the matter seriously.
James, the United Workers Party (UWP) president, told a public meeting last week that there were threats being made against his life.
Only gangsters refuse to cooperate with the police when their lives are threatened. What is Edo trying to tell us? Hmmmmmm.
The police force is now too politically biased. Mr. James’s refusal to talk to the Police is an indication of how little the people of Dominica trust the Police force. No one in Dominica is cooperating with the Police these days.
The Police force, particularly the high brass, needs to take a deep, hard look at itself and go back to the basics of serving and protecting the people of Dominica without fear or favour. They need to get out from the manipulative control of Medard Skerritt!

Why NO INVESTIGATION where orders were given and carried out by a certain policeman at the Portsmouth Police Station? Remember, In the Bubbles intimidation case with the unlicensed gun, the said firearm was held as evidence in the court. But low and behold, the unlicensed gun was given back to Bubbles without even signing. The EVIDENCE was taken away, but fortunately returned by order of the court. Why NO INVESTIGATION? Who did not COOPERATE with the court to ensure the unlicensed gun, the evidence was not taken away?
The Chief Magistrate signed and issued a warrant for the arrest of the lawyer Isidore re. the case Isidore vs. Emanuel. The WARRANT was sent to the Police Dept. for follow up action. No arrest was made. The excuse by the AG. Commissioner was that he was out of State. No COOPERATION. The court’s orders were disobeyed. Why? Why?
In yet another instance, a private journalist spent much time and effort, investigated the matter pertaining to the controversial RUBBISH BIN BOBOL. He collated all the irrefutable FACTS and EVIDENCE and submitted that to the DPP’s Office who later sent the documents to the Police Dept. for follow up action, for the matter to be investigated. Surprisingly, the Ag. Commissioner at a Press Conference indicated that no INVESTIGATION would be conducted any time soon. In fact, indirectly saying no investigation would be done. Incidentally, that RUBBISH BIN case would involve persons from the Ministry of Finance. Wasn’t the State’s TREASURY defrauded of thousands of dollars in that secret purchase, where prices were inflated and profits pocketed? NO COOPERATION with the DPP’s Office.
Those are just a few examples. What kind of messages are some people in authority sending to those who do or intend to do illegal acts? When and If wrongs or criminal acts are committed by whoever, why not INVESTIGATE all? To be SELECTIVE in carrying out the necessary investigations into all crimes is a RECIPE for continued CORRUPTION and chaos. Protect at all times our CONSTITUTION and Laws of the Land.

He can sway public opion, which is his craft. But it always boils down to the above. He does not even believe in any recent criticisms that he has made of Skerrit or anybody for that matter. On that basis alone, we may be reading Mr. James wrong.

A Police Force of the type repeatedly criticized by Chief Carette himself cannot be taken seriously when they attempt to “investigate” complaints. If Chief Carette himself is used as the yardstick to judge the professionalism and performance of the Force, then very little, if anything, can be expected of them. While I would have liked Hon. James to cooperate with the Police, I can readily understand his concerns about performance. The Police does not have a good report on crime prevention and containment in this country. Probably singling out the former PM for increased Police protection may just make him a higher target for criminals.
So rather than go public on Mr. James’ non-cooperation, the Force needs to build public confidence in their performance. Probably, Mr. James will take them serious then.
Mr. James’ refusal to co-operate is not an accident. After all the effort to scandalize the police and its work, Mr. James cannot now in good faith humbly accepts police assistance. He knows what mission he is on (ongoing), he knows the damamge that he has ochestrated and what is in store. so to accept the offer would run contrary to the ongoing campaign to discredit the police. Magway ca, the police rank and file are proud to sing the praises of the UWP and curse on Prime Minister Skerrit. Not even that Mr.james can see and understand.

When some one has reported a threat on his life the first question to be asked is “Are you afraid? If the answer is no, then your life is not threatened.
