Dominica has recorded its first road fatality and drug bust for the year.
Eighty-year-old Henwood “Pow Pow” Sully died after a motorcycle collided with him on the Anse De Mai main road about 8.30 pm on Saturday, while two are in police custody following a seizure of over 600 pounds of marijuana, a boat and two vehicles.
Police PRO Assistant Superintendent Claude Weekes said on Wednesday at the time of the Anse De Mai accident, the motorcycle was being ridden by 23-year-old, Dave Fabien of Bense.
“The rider sustained injuries as well and they were both transported to the Reginald Fitzroy Armour Hospital,” he said. “The 80-year-old was transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital …. shortly thereafter he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.”
He said there will be a coroner’s inquest to be followed by a post mortem, adding that “investigations are well on its way.”
Meantime on Monday January 19, 2015, in the early hours of the morning, police seized 621 pounds of marijuana, a boat and two vehicles for investigation purposes.
“We have two persons in custody as we carry out our investigations,” Weekes said.
The incident occurred in the north of the island.
“This is a substantial quantity of marijuana weed and we know what the detrimental impact of drugs in the society…” Weekes stated. “The police continue to work hard so that we can dent and or cripple these kinds of evil in this society.”

MEANWHILE IN JAMAICA http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-30926714
Dominica is too backward and run by a bunch of senile, regressive punk$, to even realize that they are running the Island like a rum shop! Like awa posted…just click on the link and read for your self.
It’s hurtful that an elderly life was claimed in the accident…..the sad thing about it is that the rider friends behave like the old man is insignificant although it’s their very own friend grandfather… They need to be cautious on the road and they should license and insure their bikes…. These guys have their head on their shoulders, they worship the leader, who is their BOSS…. But they don’t realize the boss bread butter and he never gets in any trouble..after all he is the only free person in this accident
Concerned, you should work for DNO man, you telling us stuff that’s not yet been published
Lock the agents of death and throw away the keys.
This situation with our bykers is a major tradgy waiting to happen, be it in the rural areas or in the city and its environs. My hope is that some strigent measures are put in place to arrest this wonton and indiscriminate way in which persons ride or drive on our roads. Lets not be reactive, rather lets be proactive and nip this in the buds. A. S. A. P. Some persons are asleep at the wheels. Wake up before its too late. You read it first on D.N.O.
My condolences to the family of the deceased. I am APPEALING to the police officers to pay some attention
to the motorcycle and scooter riders who do as they please on the country’s roads. They disturb the peace when they ride up and down residential areas with no regard for the residents. Most of these bikes and scooters are not licensed. I think it is worst in Roseau and environs.
It time those riders conduct themselves on the road. they act like the street belongs to them. Many times when I see them coming my way I give them the opportunity for I don’t want any regrets.
These motorcycle riders are a menace to other road users and people living in the villages. They are noisy and the riders do not exercise due care and attention. And the speed these guys operate at is suicidal. But then again the police does nothing about it!
Instead of fleecing people for customs fees at the port, the shift should be to make all of these wreckless drivers pay up. Shift the money collection from the port to people who are irresponsible and destructive, especially when it comes to motorcycles and vehicles.
