UPDATE: Fadelles in Roseau robbed

Dominica News Online can now confirm that a robbery occurred at Fadelle’s in Roseau this morning.

According to the owner of the establishment, Jeniffer Fadelle, she was having a conversation with a customer at around 9:30 am, when a man walked in.

She said the man slammed his hand on the counter and it was then she realized what he was all about.

She said screamed and threw a phone at the man hitting him in his face, however he was able to grab the cash register and make good his escape.

Fadelle noted that the man was not masked and she knows him by face.

She is asking for more police presence in the streets of Roseau during the festive season.

She said the cash register contained less than $20.

to tete morne i form … that is the dumbest thing ive ever heard … if you show these thieves *aka young boys who seriously have nothing better to do than get high and try to get less than $20 for munchies * that you’re afraid of them , they will seriously feel like they’re criminals and ruin Dominica .. there needs to be more jobs set up for these young people as opposed them soending their lives terrorizing Dominicans AND visitors alike..

Aye, I never said that people should be afraid of robbers/criminals. I simply sated that it was a BAD idea to attack a voleh first. Life is like a box of chocolate: you never know what you gonna get. :(

It’s a simple equation: reinstate magistrate TB=decreased crime. Give him one case and watch him send shock waves through the criminal community. Store owners get your pepper spray, mace or licensed gun and do utilize then when you and/or your business is under attack. There’s a need for security cameras in business places and on our streets. Possibly more security guards trained effectively amlnd equipped with fire arms.

I would like to say to the police commissioner,as already mentioned by another commenter on this forum, we have more police in the police force today than anytime in the past.My friend, what’s the issue with you managing your people. Is it not obvious that the public wants more from the police? Roseau has the majority of the stores, put officers on foot patrol throughout the day,let them make rounds man. It’s a deterrent for the criminals and helps to create public trust in the police force.Don’t just make excuses that the police force is doing the best with the resources they have.Ultimately, you are the top cop and you need to make what you have work and put up a good fight to get what you know the force needs and must have my friend. So please sir,do your job to the best of your ability or we’ll be force to start asking for your dismissal and the appointment of a more capable and competent police commissioner.

What a ridiculous question this is. Are you stating that in order for a robbery to be classified as that (a robbery), the perpetrator must be armed? I would suggest that you look up the meaning of robbery.

Why would Jennifer put her life in jeopardy by throwing a phone at a robber? is twenty dollars worth your life girl? While I DO NOT condone what that monkey ( robber) did, I think that she should have allowed him to take the little bit of cash and leave. She could have been killed after she hit him with the phone. This reminds me of the convenience store workers in the US who fight tooth and nail to “save the store.” What are you saving? The store does not belong to you neither does the money nor the groceries, yet you put your life at risk to “save” them? Give the robber what he wants and stay alive; It is just not worth fighting a robber over five cents doh matter how hard you work for it. If those kinds of people are so brazen to approach your place of business, they will brazen enough to kill you.

What i can see here is that DOMINICA IS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE…Justice has to be across the board, some people believe (and rightly so) that hard core criminals (leaders) can take everything, but the poor man can’t..THIS SORT OF CONFUSION ONLY HAPPENS IN A FAILING COUNTRY…IT IS TIME that we call a criminal a criminal irrespective of the position which he/she holds and denounce all sort of thievery, otherwise i am SORRY FOR DOMINICA..

There are more police in the force today than anytime in our history, so why ain’t police patrolling the beat in twos like before, that would help to deter these low life.
The police work is to protect the public, so what is the problem mr weeks, address the nation Sir.

The only one who is guilty of the crime is the criminal. You do the crime you do the time.

We must stop making excuses for criminals. People must take the responsiblity for their actions. Stop blaming the Police, their parents, the government, poverty, etc.

And stop “mal palaying” the country. “As a man thinketh, so he becomes.”

red phone at the man hitting him in his face” obviously business owners can
learn from this woman! when threatened by lame thugs and thieves… scream and throw your phone at them that will get rid of them…infact Dominicans should invest in multiple throwing accessories such as PDAs, ipods, ipads, car keys and my personal favorite left over KFC Twister…

one wonders why such issues must be turned into politics you know…if we keep making excuses for such criminals and downplaying their unlawful acts because of our selfish political agenders, the lawlessness will continue and one day, will come round and sting us in our rear ends. We must all have one unified voice against these illegal acts!

    • Anonymous
      December 14, 2011

I don’t think anyone is condoning what happened but this country is too crooked. This one voice must be for all and sundry, and it should begin with blind bats like you denouncing robbery by our leaders of what belongs to us first, and then you will be seen as someone who is honest.. Call for these leaders to be brought before the court, an get the maximum sentence if found guilty. These leaders and the other robbers are all Dominicans, and anyone should not be above the law.

    December 14, 2011

@ aye dominique the tactic of using alkali has been tried before and an innocent person got hurt instead of the attacker…. alkali is liquid and may just hit another it was not intended for… i don’t think advising people to have alkali (which can cause blindness) is a good idea…. besides i think one could face legal action… because to have alkali in a bottle would mean one had premeditated action to use it..

Why don’t they show the faces of those damn thieves when they are caught? eh? Almost everything else I see the faces of people, but it seems like the law has a way of protecting these individuals…Put up a photo of the suspect, let the public hunt them out of the hole they are hiding. And if they law don’t want to deal with them, at least we can fix them up.
In this case, that thief is a fool-if he is not caught, I will have negative confidence in the police force. First thing the man rub a store in the morning when there is hardly any sale for the day, next thing he come in without a mask. Police, this case is the easiest. If you can’t find and punish that thief, all of you need to resign and give ordinary citizens a chance to ‘handle their business’.

At least the lady tried to defend herself, if she had something else in her hand I would be sorry for him. I am now giving an advice to all cashiers, I know most of you are women and are most times unable to defend yourself. Get a bottle of alkali or acid and put it by your cash register. Make sure your acid/alkali is within your reach, nothing should hinder you from reaching out and grabbing that bottle on instinct. Make sure that it is not covered in such a way to give the attacker too much time to figure what’s going in. I know these items are to be kept close, but find a way to ensure that it opens easily. Most of them are wearing mask but their eyes are always uncover, maybe they do not need those eyes because the more they see the more they want, so blind those bastards!

Some flowers were planted outside the fence of Josephine Gabriel and Co. Ltd at cane field in tires. They were there for about a week. The flowers were left there Friday last week. Monday when every one returned to work the flowers were gone.In that same time frame I heard that some guys dressed in camouflage outfits robbed a restaurant and bar opposite minias’ super market. I know the lady well her abilities are limited. She cannot defend herself.
I think these robberies are carefully planned. There is a master mind. It only appears they attack randomly but they are organized. Even the removal of the flowers are a bit suspicious.

I honestly believe someone is trying to send a message. They do not appear to me to be ordinary thieves. Here is the gambit catch me if you can. There a lot more i observe but to much details to give here.

Many of you will disagree with what i have to say, but since Dominica opened it’s door for all Dick, Tom and Harry the level of crime is at a rampage, I know of a guy from St Vincent residing in Dominica illegal he came back door and living with one guy who is not a good apple, so door not blame it on the Dominican youth

From since i know myself around Christmas time always have more thiefing and pick-pocketing going on than the rest of the year….all you getting on like that is new thing…stupes, come on man. While i sympathise with what’s going on with robberies and all that, and also I agree there needs to more police presence in Roseau, but all those comments on DNO…people need to calm the hell down.

    What nonosense is that??

Those lazy want to sit on their behind all day. They will not go and catch boxes or pack grocery bags because they too conceited for that, but they want to go and steal what somebdy else work hard for. What they need to do is just cut off a few fingers, that will be their mark; everybody will know that person is a thief.

The Dominica police force need a full overhaul in the area of it’s public relations.

If the police high command have not yet realized by now that it is absolutely essential to have the community on their side to effectively combat this level of crime, then they might as well just tender their resignation.

The police need to immediately impliment an active plan to ‘win-back’ the public’s trust and respect.

It can be done with the correct know-how.

This is the only way we can start winning this ‘war on crime’.

      December 14, 2011

I like your comment. This type of “community crime” requires public support and co-operation in order to apprehend the criminals.

I agree with you 100%!! police need to stop bullying people and start communicating with the community in a civilized manner.

poverty is not responsible for the increase in robberies reported,it’s outright laziness. young people don’t want to find work to do,and they want to bling. STOP making excuses for these guys who are bend on making life difficult for others who are working hard.

        December 14, 2011

allyu people too wicked eh boy poverty is indeed linked to crime like it or not all allyu is saying is go and get a job. where de jobs at? oh go and try to start your own business. how de f#$% u starting a business with no help(i know u going an talk about business loan and small business assistance but try applying for dem all they telling u is where your collateral or cosigner) do you know how it feel to see christmas coming and de bread basket empty with no end in sight? never judge a man unless u walk a mile in his shoe. all you self righteous people dat talking would probably do the same or worse if you was in some people situation. i’m not saying that crime is rite but unless we think of ways to alleviate the situation it will only get worse and it begins with addressing poverty in dominica. at least if we get to a few underpriviledged youth it will reflect a drop in the crime rate(then we can start to shoot those dat just robbing through wickedness and vanity.lol)

But, recently 30+ police officer graduated from training, where are they? Walking around Roseau, you can hardly see a single police officer on the street. Common, we tax payers are paying for our safety, its time the Police prove that they are worth it, else we will need to start taking the law in our hands. Common Mr. Carrete its time to stand up and LEAD!!!

Please this have nothing to do with police, do not blame the polices, blame them criminals and the Dominica Law

Man this is something you hear all over Dominica , ( Man when i do what i do all they will do is send me up Stock Farm to rest and get fat)

It is so sad right now in Dominica where ever you are, be it at home or work people have to be looking at their back, build a bigger prison and send them ten + years without seeing day light

      December 14, 2011

I agree 100% with you. It is about time they start patrolling. They need to show force on the streets of the country. You do not have resources, OK. But, strength in numbers can help. CID need to work for their pay.Because people working for their pay and somebody can just come and take it. The police are their to control this type of thing. All they can do is give illegal traffic ticket and rage war on drug dealers. There are other crimes.Next thing that will happen is either the robbers get killed or an innocent die trying to keep maybe the last dollar he or she have to feed his family. Times are had and believe me there are people who would rather go to jail or die protecting the little that they have, FOOLISH AS IT MAY SOUND TO SOME PEOPLE.

It is time to stop those rats business people must store acid under their counter and dash it in the thieves face when they come when some get acid burn and blind they will cool out or we should shoot to kill those thieves because they are being bailed by those chicken magistrates and is those same dogs that coming back their mother and father’s are responsible for bad training they to should pay when you know who rob you you should respond after the magistrate give them light sentences find where they live and burn them down

  75. wow
    December 14, 2011

    ANOTHER ROBBERY?! IN A *DAY?!*

SOMEONE IS NOT DOING THEIR DAMN JOB, AND THAT SOMEONE IS THE POLICE. At this point I firmly believe that they are ALLOWING this to happen!

How much do you wanna bet that someone in the police department is simply covering up for someone, or may have actually been involved?(!)

This is pathetic, and before long Dominica will be known as The Robbery Island of the Caribbean.
