Fifty-year-old Wesley man fined for cocaine

courtA 50-year-old man from the Wesley community was on July 6, 2015 fined EC$15,000 by Magistrate Bernard Pacquette after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Albert Peter Williams and his wife Brenda were arrested on July 5, 2015 in Canefield and 1,231 grams of cocaine were reportedly found in their possesson

Brenda pleaded not guilty to the charges and is to reappear in court on October 13, 2015. She was granted bail in the sum of EC$20,000.

However her husband pleaded guilty and was fined $15,000 of which $5,000 was to be paid forthwith or in default six month’s jail.

On January 31, 2016 another $5,000 is expected to be paid or in default 6 months and the final $5,000 must be paid by July 2016 or in default 6 months behind bars.

According to the facts as presented in court, the police were on routine patrol at about 8:15 am when they spotted a red Toyota Rav, registration number, TK968 driven by Willams with his wife in the front passenger seat.

The wife was spotted putting something under the seat of the vehicle when they were stopped by the police.

Asked if they had drugs or firearm, they replied “no.”

A search was conducted and the package, wrapped with brown tape, was found under the seat.

They were both arrested.

In mitigation, Wayne Norde, lawyer for Williams. told the court that his client is a farmer and owns a small business and is the father of six children.

“He is the bread winner for his family, Your Honour, please consider his situation and give him a second chance,” he said.

He asked the court to “temper justice with mercy” and do not impose a custodial sentence and the fine impose must be “reasonable”.

“He is very remorseful, his farm is getting back to business. I am looking at a fine of $7,500 plus time to pay, the court will be pretty happy with that sentence,” Norde said.

However, Magistrate Pacquette was not amused saying that the amount of the cocaine on Dominica’s streets is of concern and those taking it are turning into “Paros” (drug-addicts).

“You have young children, I always say when you engage in such you need to put the money aside for when you are caught,” he said.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $32,867.

The maximum fine is $100,000.

Williams is a first time offender.

    “Wesley who are Paros ”

I see this “paros” even a magistrate used the word in court while convicting a criminal. If it is patios whatever it is one must realize that DNO is read perhaps internationally: as a matter of fact I have introduced DNO to none Americans who them also.

There it is important for people to know what they are reading about. I am from Dominica, born on Hunt Road, I lived there for the first fourteen years of my life, before I left, returning regularly over the years. Nevertheless,, I do not know the meaning of “paros” It is okay for one to indulge a native dialect, but what sense does it make to people who do not understand patios?

If I who was born in Dominica donot know what it means; how many foreigners do? I looking for more thumbs down; from the five who are closed off in their darkness, and ignorance.

” I have introduced DNO to none Americans who them also.”

I meant none Dominicans, (Americans) who goes on DNO daily, people like my nurse reads DNO everyday, when that lady see such words, and ask me what is the meaning of the word or what it entails, (I doh) know what to tell her.

Let us express ourselves in the English language so that people can get the essence of the story!

But why is she out and he still in? They saw her putting hiding the drugs, so she not innocent. And what little fine is this? They need to make an example out of them for destroying our young people lives. Just look at the street value of what they had in their possessions. may be they have doing this for a while and has some money stash away. There is no way they are going to stop. The wife is out to continue her dirty habit and I am sure no one will be monitoring her. Thumbs down!

It is a big shame when people with children of their own fry the brain of other children for money. Sorry but I cannot empathise with them.

All that money those who get caught have to pay to the Courts. It will make them broke and bankrupt.
Do you not think that people should cease dealing in drugs? That Court-ordered money they have to pay could be given to the poor, to alleviate their poverty. You will be blest for it.
Do not try to get rich quickly. Dealing in drugs is a quick-rich scheme. It hardly ever works. Furthermore, if it is through illegal means, it is also not without anxiety and stress. Some may never live long and healthily to enjoy these avails. Furthermore, money can be the root of all evil. Dealing in illegal drugs is evil.

The man is not a wesley man by birth …he came wesley fine his wife.n become a naturaliz citizen…all they are doing is damage the young men n women with there drugs …they need to be weeded out …jail them it was time ..ninety-nine day for the watch man …but one day for the thief …boom bom. …they get caught who ray.

    • Francisco Telemaque
      July 6, 2015

I know in Wesley most of us speaks very bad broken English, and sometimes we speak backwards also.
Example, I believe it is ninety-nine days for the thief, and one day for the watchman. You see the thief can steal everyday, and get away, however it takes seconds in one day for the thief to get caught by the watchman.

And it is not ” who ray!”

As a mater of fact it is supposed to be “hurrah” indicating excitement, or celebrating a joyous moment, or fanfare!

So the man could not take responsibility for the drugs and free up his wife. These Dominican men are hopeless.

Their aim is to get off Scot-Free. When they are caught they only think of themselves. This is why criminals never go down alone. They always take down their accomplice(s) and partners with them. It is a known fact.

The law in Dominica is so unfair, they know that the farm and the business is the cover up for their drug rackett.

    • The Real Facts
      July 6, 2015

Many farms and businesses. It is easy to do so away from the scrutiny of police authorities. They are not usually suspected of carrying on shady business as illegal drug dealings. This is where they plan their criminal activities. No exception in other countries as also the progressive ones.

best d woman had plead too and finish with that. she end up paying more than d man and she still have to face d court again, if they find her guilty she still have to pay more money.

  14. July 6, 2015

SmFh. My opinion. I have no symphathy for agents of Death, its alomst laughable those pleas submitted on those persons behalf. surfice it to say in Law as we know it, such is accepted. I always wonder why after the facts those pleas are entered? I know better.

    July 6, 2015

finally they’re caught. You have no idea the number of persons in and around Wesley who are Paros and dead because of them. God do answer prayers. Jail them

    • July 6, 2015

      Wow

    • The Real Facts
      July 6, 2015

This is why the Lord said, “Vengeance is Mine. I will repay.” In time, they get their Waterloo, what is coming to them. There is more to come where God is concerned. If they harm others, one day they will pay more dearly. This is God’s justice and fair recompense.
