Football player fined for drug possession

A 20 year old football player of the Icons team of Newtown Jackie Wayne Lando has pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and fined $300.00 or face 21 days in jail.

The fine is to be paid by March 31, 2013.

According to reports, members of the drugs squad discovered 3 grams of the drug after acting on intelligence received and conducting a search on Lando who was a passenger on a bus.

Lando admitted to the police that it was cannabis and said, “a little weed I have there.”

In mitigating his lawyer Peter Alleyne asked not to impose a custodial sentence on his client although he recently had a drugs conviction. He told the court that his client was the father of a 3 year old girl and was also expecting another child and was trying to walk “the straight and narrow path of the law.”

In another matter French national Bernard Antoine Carloras was given a fine of $100.00 suspended for one year after he pleaded guilty to possession of 1 gram of cannabis. He was arrested on January 5, 2013 after he checked in at the Ferry Terminal on his way to Martinique.

Caloras expressed deep regret and remorse at the matter and apologized for his actions.

That is what the man’s lawyer waas paid to say. Just make up a story to keep him from jail. It doesn’t mater if it is true or not. For those who do not live in Montego Bay. Jackie does not have any three year old child. Only his lwyer can exp-lain tot he court where is that child. He is supposed to have one on the way – that is true. So much for truth and honesty in our justice system.

1 gram, 3 grams, pay money or jail….These are good examples why they should legalize the thing.

why is that news ? why are we further tarnishing the name of the young man for 3 grams of weed…
which seems to be just enough for one joint.
the man was fined just 300 dollars, why is that news ? so much bigger cases in the court go without media attention….
why pick on a guy fined 300 dollars for 3 grams of weed…
    come on man DNO…..

A little weed de man have dere wi… let him go easy.. but obviously the law is the problem. we don’t have to legalize weed immediately, what is needed is a ticketing system. e.g. if an individual is caught with a few grams of weed just give him/her a ticket. Yes a ticket to pay $150.00 if not paid on time then the authorities will take further action.
Dominica is so slow wit everything. Time to make some damn progress. Legalize ganja.

If that was the case he would have paid many $150.00 considering the number of times he has been found with the weed, including one time at police headquarters when he went to sign up for his bail condition. What other excuse can we find for this obviously troubled youth? See a man’s bowel on the street in Montego Bay. Did his name call?

MOST cursed part of DA??? I rebuke you in the name of the Lord. How can u judge a community like that? It’s simply that the negative is more sensationalized, what about the many many positive people and attributes of Newton.
