Four have been granted bail after they were remanded in prison for murder.
The matter, involving Randy Laudat, Ronald Mellow, Eddie Laurant and Eddie Lewis was brought before high Court judge Justice Brian Cottle Friday morning.
The four Petite Soufriere men were charged with killing Errol Eustace, on December 30 2010.
At the time of the incident Eustace’s body was found on the roadside in Petite Soufriere. He had been wanted by police.
Attorney Zeena Dyer represented Laudat, Mellow, Lewis and Laurent in court but would not give comments to the media on the matter.
I agree they did not act, they reacted to a bad cituation. Doesn’t mean I think it’s ok to kill. But I didn’t hear of any guns or knives being used. And they may not have wanted him to die? It looks as if things got out of control as they often do in the streets of Dominica when the law is nowhere to be found. And I am glad to see they didn’t butcher him with a machette. It is never ok to take a life but I know my sons would protect me just as black did his family. I am not friends with the others but have known Black a good while.My heart break when I see the mess he is in. He had many chances to do wickedness around myself and others and he never did, I know he is not a man to fear.He is very talented and what a waste to lock up your young men. The police fail all over Dominica this wouldn’t have happened if they kept this man where he belongs! {JAIL} I am a foriegner and many times I called police while living in Castle Bruce. Bloody hopeless let me tell you. I would have better luck getting help from Santa Claus! P.S. They need counseling and guidance for that entire village police included. I pray for you Black take this chance to get to know your Creator better and stay away from the ganja because you are more likely to get prison for that! A known fact in DA if you really have an emergency tell the police you found ganja they will show up ASAP.

It is not only in Dominica. The system is twisted everywhere. The innocent is punished the guilty is set free. However, the message here is ‘we can do whatever we want because we will not be punished.’ Regardless to what Errol had done, he should have been punished for his crimes by the justice system – if there is any – and not by the people that killed him. We do need a better justice system at home. Too many crimes have gone by unpunished, and sometimes the most severe ones get less punishment.
SELF DEFENSE involves TWO people. Where FOUR or more are involved this is not self defense, this is MURDER. Please bring back the Dominica that we grew up in, where crimes were at a minimal and the ciminals used to get real punishment.

Compare to when this horrible act first occurred, I am happy to see so many comments of people showing their dissatisfaction with the justice system in Dominica and the fact that these guys may go free. One comment mentioned the fact that one guy was just sentenced to 15 years for coke and here you have guys going free for murder…..Wow. I am not saying that the victim was perfect but if he was not held accountable for his crimes, then who can we blame again, the justice system. I have not heard one person from the Petite Soufriere village complaining about the Castle Bruce policemen for not doing their jobs that eventually led to the death of Mr. Eustache.
I can assure you Petite Soufriere is not a safer place tonight and it’s only going to be time before these guys act again. Remember, Bin Laden was once a friend of the U.S. today he is public enemy number one. I believe it is always wrong to take the law into your own hands. Anyone who find they vex these men are out or think that it was wrong for them to be granted bail need to look up The Constitution of Dominica. The deceased had NO right to his life based on what the constitution says. There are five articles that allow for a homicide to be justifiable. And these men were well within their rights. First off if you are avoiding the police and running from custody like erol was and are killed, then its justified. Also if the death occurs while the person is trying to defend their person or property its justified. Erol was heard on the road saying he was coming to attack sylvia and had damaged rons car. And if the death happens while the person is trying to commit another crime its justifiable. Had those guys not stopped him erol may have killed sylvia that night. They deserve to be free.

Technically one is innocent until proven guilty. I am curious to know what the bail amount was since all 4 men were simultaneously bailed out. this is not a good precedent. I think that we are regressing as a society.
The precedent was already set in Thelston Brookes V. Dpp. in Anguilla this is the precedent case being used to argue bail. Stop acting like is Dominca that invent bail for accused murderers.
I must tell you that in some OECS countries, bail for alleged murderers is unheard of.
When will justice prevail in Dominica? When these types of decisions continue to take place in the court what better do you expect the youth of the country to do. What happened is the the court got to hear all the evidence. All the so called family of the deceased that were on this website running their mouth talking about the guys a murders without knowing the facts and listening to a bunch of hearsay. The facts are from an eye witnesss the majority of the community were supposed to be arrested as no one knows who really killed eroll. The majority of the people that were there witnessing were also purpetrators. They boys were not the only ones beating eroll up. Old like young was carrying stones and hitting this man with it. When the boys left eroll on the ground to go call police he was moving breathing, talking. Someone gave him the death blow and it wasn’t either of these guys. Don’t worry the police knows all this. They just decided to arrest those four boys when in reality they should have arrested everyone involved which would have been more than 20 people or more. Then again you can’t arrest a whole community right? So they decided to arrest who they wanted to.. God does not sleep and thats why the boys are out. There is always three sides to a story remember that. The only person eroll will hunt is his own self deborah and only evil people believe in dead people hunting others. As opposed to hearing from counsel for the accuse, of greater interest would be the views of the presiding judge as to the circumstance and/or arguments mitigating against keeping those accused behind bars.
