‘Frustrated’ escaped prisoner gets nine months

Maxwell

A Roseau magistrate has slapped a 9 months jail sentence on 41-year-old Julian “Frenchman” Maxwell of St. Joseph for escaping from the State Prison on January 5, 2013.

He was serving time for theft of agricultural produce, battery and wounding.

Maxwell said he escaped because he was ‘frustrated.’

He was convicted in August 2012.

According prosecutor Inspector Claude Weekes, on the day in question the inmates were lining up for lunch when Maxwell lifted a razor wire fence along with another inmate, went into a nearby unfinished building and jumped from a window 20ft in height.

A chase by prison official was unsuccessful but later that day he was spotted by police close to Al Motors in Canefield. When confronted he told the police that he escaped because he was “frustrated and wanted to see a doctor.”

After pleading guilty to the charge Maxwell told the court, “I was really frustrated and was asking an officer to help me but they refused. The person who I shared cells with was frustrating me, telling me let us escape and I lose my mind.”

His 9 months jail will run consecutively with his 2 years sentence. The maximum penalty for escaping prison is 12 months jail.

In another court related story, Yannick Lander is again in trouble with the law after he was charged for battery of a fellow inmate on December 31, 2012.

He was on remand for another matter when the incident occurred.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and remains on remand at the Stock Farm prison.

What is happening to Yanmick’s murder charge? This man should have been brought before the courts charged for murder long ago, what is the hold up?

if two of them escape the same time, i guess the other one was smarter than him. He was a fool to listen to his fellow inmate. serve your time. and i also believe does prison officers need some more training. prisoners just escaping on them.
