Dominica News Online can confirm that over 500 lbs of cannabis were seized by police on a beach in Vieille Case on Saturday morning.
It is believed that the cannabis was imported from a nearby Caribbean island.
According to reports, the police got information about the marijuana from an anonymous individual who claimed that the illegal drug was just “sitting on the beach”.
No arrest has been made so far but police are said to be investigating the matter.

Well the Police recovered a stash of cocaine and made five arrests which is very good. They then recovered five hundred pounds of marihuana from a beach. At least we can see that they are doing their job and protecting the community. I do not believe that anyone have to import marihuana to Dominica but that marihuana was waiting to be pick up by a boat to be transported to some where else. The cocaine is another issue and the Police must find out who brought this drug to Dominica. So let us say thanks to the officer who risk their life everyday to protect the community because where ever there are drug violence always follows. This report is very confusing. 1st, it was found on the beach (sounds like it was brought on shore by the waives) 2nd, 500lbs seized by the police on the beach (how do you seize something on or from the beach?)3rd, It’s believed that it was imported from a nearby caribbean island (if they know where it originated from, then it seems like a confession was made by the person(s)involved and therefore I wonder why it was found on the beach. #4, With all this information that’s given, then why has an arrest not been made?

I believe there needs to be a reassessment as to how marijuana is dealt with in Dominica.
Firstly, burning and spraying marijuana plantations is the most retarded thing any law agency can do. Marijuana is a natural plant and there is a reason and wisdom for the creation of the marijuana plant by All Mighty Allah.
Secondly, smoking marijuana is an intoxicant. It makes you “charge” and “high” thus this is clearly FORBIDDEN by divine law. A plant that gives you blood shot eyes and does these negative things to one’s body should not be used like this. Simply because a plant is natural does not give the right to ingest or smoke it. There is are poisonous plants in Dominica, if you inhale some of these plants whilst it is burnt in a closed area it is worst than a gas chamber. Does that mean it is permissible to use this plant for smoking purposes? The answer is no! The idea that marijuana is natural equals okay to smoke it is flawed reasoning.
Marijuana should be used for scientific research and medicinal purposes to treat diseases such as glaucoma and other bronchial diseases rather than many pharmaceutical drugs which have serious side effects.
Another case in point is the double standard and hypocrisy that plagues the Dominican society. Why is it that packs upon packs of cigarettes are legal? Why do we continue to follow the dictates of Tobacco Companies to destroy ourselves? Why do we allow cigarettes to be exported here? We know the thousands of dangerous chemicals inhaled in one puff of cigarette smoke. We know the mortality rate from cigarette smoke, recently in Europe a ban was placed on smoking cigarettes in public places. Look at the evils of alcohol yet we continue to sell and consume them. Thus to fine a man $500 for one joint and to allow alcohol and cigarettes to flourish is downright filthy and unjust! The youth must address these corrupt and unjust practices in sha Allah (if God wills)
