Grand Bay residents face drugs, firearm charges

Five Grand Bay residents were brought before Magistrate Candia Carrette George onThursday morning after being jointly charged for possession of illegal drugs and firearms without a valid license.

Melissa Blaize, Maydine Williams, Theodore Williams, Avandale James and Tony Espirit were arrested and charged on 4th April, 2012 for cultivating cannabis and possession of the drug.

The charges also include possession of seven 9-millimetre guns, seven spent shells, twenty 12 gauge live shot gun rounds and 1 Webley revolver.

The accused were each released on $50,000.00 bail – they all  pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The matter was adjourned to 24th September, 2012 with that case expected to be heard at Grandbay.

The accused were represented by Mrs. Zena Dyer.

What if you need a lawyer to work & win for you? They are lawyers, and lawyers are part of the checks & balances our constitution put in place for our protection against the state and others who would like to frame us up etc.

It works, and sometimes in your favor too!

I know for sure Grand-Bay have a record and it’s a history over 50yrs growing up hearing up in that village and up till now it remains the same why because the people of that village always cover up for the wrongs that is why it can’t stop now. They never let the wrong doers know that they are displease about what they are doing instead they will support them by saying Grand-Bay is not the only village that have crime but Grand-Bay is the only village that have the dirty name straight up it’s a shame children, childrenis coming is the same no end of stopping because the wise don’t educate foolish ones so there is no end of the dirty name for Grand-bay my people straight up the little ones that are coming up there is no one educate them of the ABC’s in life all they keep hearing that Grand-bay is not the only one so that is encouraging them to worst. Straight up it’s a shame ilove Gand-bay no dout it’s my village but i never said is not Gand-bay alone things happen i don’t encourage anything to bring down my village the dirt name has to change to a good name

This is a serious crime. They had guns and ammunication to murder hundreds of people.
I keep asking where did those people get the guns and ammunition? How were they able to transport them to DA and evade airport and customs authorities?
If DA has a police patrol boat, how could they be brought in through other areas of illegal entry and were not caught?
What steps is the government, also DA immigration authorities at points of entry taking to ensure that those dangerous paraphernalia are confiscated? All visitors and nationals should be thoroughly searched at point of entry for obvious reasons.
They also had spent shells? This means they used the guns. Surely they were not used for hunting animals? Under the circumstances, I am unable to comprehend that they were granted bail; also since they were in possession of illegal drugs. Let us see/hear how many years imprisonment they will get for this.

Its so funny that people on the streets kno who have guns, where to buy a nine for 650, who to check to rent a gun from to kidnap, rob and kill others yet the police dont. The real problem to many drug dealers are friends wit plenty high ranking police and others within the justice system. Even prosecutors. This is the time for government to amend the laws like in the USVI an illegal gun is 5 years jail no question. And this system of bail needs revision these people had spent shells yet they are on bail before a proper ballistic is done to determine if this is not one of the guns used in all these recent killings. Shame on these magistrate who inconsiderately grant bail to these criminals i hope it escape their doorstep bcuz one of these criminals they release might jus bring their action to their home. I suspect is only then they wil take a firm action. You see what they do to GON

You are so right. Not only are they friends with police, customer officers and men in higher office they are also paying or scaring citizens into coming forward with what they know. Especially in Grand-Bay. The people are hyprocrites and when they finish they saying Justina is not doing anything for them. What are they doing to better their community. Go Hyland where I grew up…nothing but drugs dealers running that place. They bragg about going so and so to fix so and so. Grandbay is Dominica’s hell and who want to dislike can dislike. I grew up there but I will not set foot in that place again unless things start changing for the better. That lady and her family are innoicent and hopefully the Police will find her grand son who all those guns belong too but Grand-Bay people need to wake up and take a stand against violence and quite harboring the criminals…money hungry they money hungry you know…

Why so many guns on island? This is really scary business for those of us who love Dominica! But didn’t the PM say he would go to Parliament and pass “Draconian Laws” re people found with unlicensed firearm(s)? Have these laws been passed in parliament?
Why can’t the state step up to the plate and seriously punish those who are bent on lawlessness, including the possession of those deadly weapons? Are we not afraid that these weapons may reach our homes, or someone very very close to us? I am !
In any other country the government would have to answer to the people its hopelessness in dealing with this issue, but in this virtual Dominica anything goes. In the meantime we continue to ‘Go Down Slowly’.
