ITSS students in street brawl

Three students from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School are being questioned by the police following a fight at the school’s bus stop on Monday afternoon.

The police have said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unknown but have confirmed it took place and the students are being questioned.

An eyewitness who reportedly saw what happened told Dominica News Online the incident occurred at 1:15 pm when a group of boys started a fight.

Teachers on the scene tried to separate the students, “ according to the eyewitness, who also reported seeing one boy with a bloodied head.

The incident caused a huge pile up of traffic in the area.

Just noting, when reporting other schools, DNO always says “some school in the city”. However, when it is ITSS, it is blasted on the page. I live overseas and I enjoy reading the stories on here but please as journalists try to be more neutral in reporting.

I do not blame the government but what I can say is that Dominica was not ready for Universal Education! I believe that we have to go back to the old system of screening our students- those who top the exams go to secondary school and those who do not succeed get a second chance and go to JSP- the old system worked!!!

I happened to be on a bus when the fight seemed to have started. The boys were like wooligans, in clusters. It was sad to see each of those boys was somebody’s child. Another bus driver blowing his horn so he could go through, but the cluster of boys did not care, or did not ever hear. Then I saw a flying missile, which might have been a stone. It was very scary, and I was happy when the fight left the front of the bus that I was on, and moved to the back, so we could move away. I am pleading to parents, to please take control of your little ones, so they will grow up to be peaceful and loving citizens. What I saw today was too ugly.

Take it to mean that when principals take decisions to suspend not even expel yet , just suspend the children who behave in-humanely the government offices and ministry under education minister and chief ed.officer overturns it . look into grammar school and previous sagas . An we fought yes , but how did we do it ? to what extent we go ? today these fights are more gang related . how much gangs did we have in our time at school . our fight was i jack you , you do same we roll , we are separated , cained and share same detention or lose chance of graduation , no proplonged fights today it’s proplonged and taken to streets everyday .

There was a huge fight last week involving three young girls two from lower belfast who fought with a young haitian girl . The girls was grabbed from the contracted bus and beaten infront of her haitian mother who works at a restaurant in Mahaut ( lower Belfast ) . These things need to stop honestly and Mr …. i tell you , you have to look beyond the politics of government and take actions since the PTA is ready to watch your back .

DNO says : “The incident caused a huge pile up of traffic in the area.” So which area was this?

A journalist should always report: What, when, where, who, why.

It is rather embarrasing to hear each minute that something bad happens at the ITSS and is St.Joseph that is getting the bad name. I remember when i went to school that there was overcrowded and nobody came to our rescue, as soon as a school was built it became everybody’s own and i always believe that the people of Senjo should retaliate. Had we kept our school for ourselves then those notorious characters would be elsewhere spoiling it’s name and not St.Joseph. i am calling on all Senjo people for us to take back our community from these vagrants.
