Jamaica reggae artiste Jah Cure says his Rolex watch and a chain was stolen from his Fort Young hotel room last night.
“It was unconditional disappointment, not unconditional love for me,” Cure said on Mat in the Morning radio interview today. “It was in my bag in the hotel room and it was supposed to be safe.”
The reggae superstar said his room was accessed at 7:44 pm last night with a master key while his entire entourage was on stage.
“It had to be somebody that work here. It’s very unfortunate. It is something that has never happened before,” Cure said.
Police are investigating the matter, having questioned several individuals at the hotel last night.
“I still love Dominica and I will return here,” he said, while calling for any assistance from the public to aid the police in their investigation in the recovery of his “favorite jewelery”.
Jah Cure was one of the headline performers at last night’s culmination of the 14th World Creole Music Festival at the Windsor Park Stadium.
Heavy police presence was visible at the Fort Young Hotel last night. Hotel management says they are working tediously to have the matter resolved.
Thats really sad. And please dont lump all Jamaicans together, just as there are good and bad Dominicans, there are good and bad Jamaicans. Luciano is a great man and he loves Dominica thanks for not robbing him.Hope he is welcome back. As they say some people so greedy they will steal a fly off your plate!

Well, this is a big shame and disgrace for the Island of Dominica. The hotel has to see to it that all their guests are properly taken care of and especially when you have world renouned artists and very likeable ones at that . There should be proper security at all times.When a person is an artist there is a lot of hard work that it entails, lots of sleepless nights voice training etc. The guy works hard to acquire what he has. He was behind bars for years and now he is enjoyiing the finer things in life. Don’t be haters. Dominica is a beautiful country and the people are very warm and hospitable . I do hope that he recovers his belongings and this mishap does not spoil the good name of Dominica. Ok people, ONE LOVE GUYS. We need unity and love.

to the people saying that Fort young should repay Jah cure for his stolen jewellery, I think that is unfair. If he had put the jewellery in a safe place like the deposit box maybe it would not have been stolen, n if it were to be stolen from the safety deposit, then the hotel should be responsible. He signed the security waiver when getting his room key right? I also do think that out of sincerity and good hotel management, he probably should be some what compensated because the incident happened to occur at the Fort Young Hotel. Whom soever committed the crime be it employee or guest at the hotel should be justly dealt with. If the room was entered with a master key.. only few ppl have access to master keys.. only a handful worked that night.. do the math.. its not that hard!

I am def not trying 2 b negative, but we must look at all sides of the story. when I read this article I was alarmed, and disappointed that someone would come to perform for us and someone would do such a thing. Thinking rationally as some other people have already stated… Did anyone other than cure n his entourage see him entering the country matter fact the hotel with said jewellery? if so is there picture evidence? if this was a crime , then it’s very easy to solve, the only persons who have access to master keys are the hotel managers, the maids has a different key where they can only access the rooms they are suppose to clean which is usually done during the day between the hours of 9 am and 3pm, they also has to sign there name and signature, the time they recieve the key and the time they return it in order to recieve that key. outside companies such as exterminators has access to the master key because they has to spray all the rooms, but they also has to sign name, signature ,time in an time out in order to recieve that key and usually they are accompanied by a security guard,which is also done during the day. so if cure’s statement is true, then the hotel could tell exactly who used the key an what time they used it. the hotels also make it known to there guests that they won’t be resposible for lost or stolen items, its pointed out to every guest and its written in the rent contract. that’s why they always advise guest to make use of the safety deposit box in the room which they have to pay extra to recieve the key or code for that box.
mr.cure is no saint , remember he was onced jailed for robbery/raped is his own country j/a, so don’t be supprised if this is just a stunt to get his insurance to pay for the rolex, every legal rolex owner in the world is rquired get insurance, can’t buy a vehicle from a dealer and drive it out the lot without insurance , same goes for a rolex, cant get out of the store without insurance, all rolex has a serial number which matches the owner. mr.cure has to present the papers of the rolex and picture of him wearing the rolex in dominica and have the police search all his entourage including him before i could blame my people.

come on people jah cure wears a flasy watch on is left hand in most of the video just check you see. If it was stolen and reported its now the law to find the thief . Remember the weather wasnt the best no sensible person wears a rolex in rainny weather so he would always leave it at the hotel but he should have secured it. My people Fort Young Hotel have safety deposit boxes. Some Hotel guest are well know to make false accusation just to get compensated by the Hotel. Am working in a 5 Star Hotel in St.Maarten for 22 year. So i know what am talking about.

Kassav , T vice , Carimi , and many other international artist never had such . How long did the artist perform for question number one , what time he left his room ? people i was not there so i wouldnt know what happen, but usually when these artist performs, they do so with every peice of jewelry they own, another thing, these jewelries and rolex are insured very high, i think jah cure trying to pull of something here, definitely, but in the mix of it, it embarrass our country and the entire hotel staff, it could have happen, yes, but i fail to beleive this one, real fishy. and i could bet you, if he do own the items he claim he lost, they have a very hughe insurance policy on them, look out i bet you some time after he leave his managers or who ever will be sending back to request a police report from the dominica CID in order to claim on his insurance policy.

If it is proven that someone or some people went into the room and stole them, then the Hotel is responsible for compensating him.

I was expecting to here that the show was great but not a Thief steeling Jah Cure Rolex watch. I know how he must have felt. Coming Back to the Hotel room To find out that his stuff being stolen. Fort Young is a lovely Hotel And no one should be discoraged of coming there because of the incident. But Fort young should Question there employees on who had access to Jah Cure room . And That person should be fired immediately. I know not everyone like security cameras. But they need to install some cameras around the hotel rooms so that this incident do not occur again. Many hotels now have a key pad sensor that registers back to a databank that lets them know when a room was accessed – especially if the room has an electronic card reader. So, the answer to your questions is yes. A hotel can tell you precisely when a person accessed a room. i know. I have a friend that installs hotel electronic locks.

The news of theft at hotels the world over is not new. hotels without inroom safety deposit boxes usually advise their guests to deposit jewellery and other valuables at the front desk for safe keeping. That being said it is very sad to see that this act of theft was commited in Dominica against a guest of the the Dominica Festivals Committee whose presence on island helped to draw the thousands of patrons who attended the World Creole Festival. It is even more sad that the act of theft was commited at Dominica’s most prestigious and signature hotel; THE FORT YOUNG HOTEL. How sad for the management and staff who must now engage in damage control since such news can damage the reputation of the Hotel and its managment and staff as trustworthy and property as a safe and secure property.
I am calling on the authorities to undertake a very thorough investigation and ensure that the culprit is dealt with severely. I trust that the gentleman’s valuables and recovered and returned for the good name of the hotel and itsd management and staff and the people of Dominica. We cannot afford this negative publicity since it presents us as being unsafe as a destination.

Being a former hotel employee for over 10 years on the island, I know that the major hotels here do have safety deposit boxes. Some have individual boxes for each room, while others may have a master box at the front desk.
Look at the facts. The man is on stage performing with a fake watch and no goldchain. Why on God’s earth would anyone leave a Rolex watch and a gold chain in a bag at a hotel and present himself to perform with a fake replica? Dominicans look at the facts… The man did not lost anything. He just wants a compensation from the orgainising committee and to give Dominicans a bad name. Moreover he might be looking for some publicity… Never knew who he was until today. Ask your CID department to run a criminal check on him and see what you come up with …

Jah Cure is a world renowned artist, meaning he has travelled the world. I fail to believe that he does not know that any where he travels he is a target, it may not be for robbery only, therefore he should take every precautionary method to ensure that his favourite pieces are secure. BTW, why would you travel with your favourite pieces and not wear them? Doesn’t he have security safety boxes in his country? Some of our hotel do have them. I am not one to say that he is lying or not, but if he is, then Jah go crail him, if not, then I hope his tsolen items are retrieved and returned. He should know that nowhere is safe, therefore just like how he guards his life, he should do the same to his jewelry which he treasures so. He should have entrusted it in the hands of his bodyguard. Probably though he did not want to wear it to perform, lest it got lost? well just assuming. But one word of advice to the general public. I am surprised that a well travelled man like Jah cure would leave such expensive valuables in his hotel room. Hotels/motels/extended stays etc always have security safes to store valuables. Why wasn’t it utilized?

This is a nightmare! In the wake of Carnival pulling out of Dominica and I just read the ship made its last port call to Dominica this news is very disturbing. This can affect the tourist industry immensely. Too many negative publicity for the island.
On the other hand I reserve passing judgment on Dominica and Dominicans for I believe in innocence until proven guilty. Check Dominicans but check his possie for God’s sake check everybody.

Common sense is required here. If there was no break and entry and the door and window were not broken into then it appears that it may have been an inside job. Who else could have acquired a lock to enter the room unless the occupant was allowed to keep the keys when he went out and gave it to another who probably in turn had a key made and was able to go into the room to steal the objects?
Furthermore, are the keys to the rooms not handed to the receptionist whenever the occupant leaves the hotel be it for the day or evening? Then when the occupant returns he/she goes to the receptionist desk and requests the key to the room. They must check in and check out and vice versa. Please correct me if I erred and if this is no longer practiced.
If none of these are correct, then, it appears it is an inside job committed by someone who had access to the key and room. The police investigators need to look into these.
It should be embarrassing to Dominica and its law-abiding people that such a thing occurred at a reputable hotel as Fort Young.
It is not good advertising for Fort Young. This theft could cause visitors to Dominica, to a certain degree, some uneasiness and distrust for Fort Young Hotel and its employees.
Fort Young Hotel is in a good location in the heart of Roseau. I am a town person and love residing/staying in town, in the heart of everything. If per chance I had no place to reside when I visit, it would be one of my preferential hotels that I would choose on my next Dominican vacation/visit.
I do hope a proper investigation will be conducted and that the owner(s) of Fort Young Hotel will ensure that thefts do not occur at this hotel. Otherwise, as news travel and quickly worldwide, it will lose a lot of business. Its reputation will be tarnished and people as Travel Agencies will not recommend it. I am one who recommends a good, reputable, safe place to visit and to stay while on vacation.
Allow the investigation to be conducted. After this is completed, I do hope that Fort Young will issue not only an apology to Jah Cure but also to assure everyone and prospective visitors who may utilize its services and recommend its Hotel, no exception Travel Agencies worldwide.
Prior to employing staff, Fort Young should conduct a proper investigation of staff, their credibility and credentials.
Fort Young’s continued, success, progress and reputation are at stake. It obviously cannot control the stealth urge of people but it can provide a deterrence and to ensure the Dominican visitors who are its customers that it is at least doing its utmost to curb thefts and to make their stay at its Hotel a relatively safe one.

And they were not cheap hotels. I am still wondering why Jah Cure didn’t use a safety deposit box? This is almost standard in all hotels these days.
What Fort Young has to do is go into damage control mode full time and sort this out as soon as possible. In all it gives a bad name to the hotel and Dominica on a whole.

The only sad thing is that this Rolex watch may be on its way out of the country as a gift exchange. To save the name of our Island all of us should assist in solving this case.

Why wasnt an expensve piece of jewellry like a rolex left in a hotel safe? I was looking forward to a positive report on Sunday’s performances at the Creole Festival given all the back and forth about Saturday’s cancellation/ postponement. Instead, I am greeted with a burglary that is sensationalized by the news media ( Matt, DNO, etc.). Where are the positive stories about the success of the festival?
Furthermore, hotels around the world have policies about leaving jewelry and cash in hotel rooms. Otherwise, any guest could claim that their stuff was missing. That’s what safety deposit boxes are for. It’s a shame such a thing had to happen, but it is not unique to Dominica.

Having performed splendidly at the festival, its a pity the guy had to get robbed…as far as Im concerned, if the room was accessed with a master key, then its pretty easy…who had the master key?…its things like these than put countries in a bad light and Im sure he is thinking twice about coming back to DA or if he does, his choice of hotel leaves much to be desired…

How does Jah Cure know its a “master key” that opened his room. Couldn’t it be another duplicate?In any event it had to be done by somebone whknows about the hotel, keys, movemnet of security staff etc. Well if it is propven that the Hotel’s key was used (not properly secured) to perpetrate that crime, then the Hotel will have to pay – more public relations. But then all hotels have poicies in place re the security of ones property, to include invaluables lie Rolex watches. Jah Cure more than anyone else should know.

I have always viewed Fort Young Hotel as a reputable Hotel. Whoever has done that or those people who have done that, their employer, Fort Young Hotel is given a bad name, not only locally but internationally.

a big old stupid fool that person is…. what u going and rob the man for? seriously.. i think the security for VIP should be all round during their stay in D/ca.. not only at the stadium… His personal security is not enough… mmm I can’t imagine how that incident tainted the image of the hotel and D/ca by far… Lord help us….
It’s a shame but it could happen anywhere in any hotel. i hope they have key fob’s at fort young. If they do then that is an easy one to figure out.
Damn shame if you ask me. Fort Young Hotel should be held responsible and maybe get some security cameras so situations like this can easily be detected in the future. I’m embarassed! I’m sure it was an inside job. DUH!!!

Where are the security cameras? I think the hotel needs to invest in more security especially when foreign artist use the hotel. Who is going to compensate Jah cure for his loss?
Wow! What a bunch of fols to do something like that. The man brought pure love to DA and that is how is was repaid. The WCMF should buy the man back his watch, yesterday. I was planning to go to DA with my family and friends and stay at Fort Young Hotel due to the fact that, I was told it is safe. Hell No! After this, Hell No!

This is very shameful for Dominica and Fort Young Hotel.
That is a huge shame … and poor reps for Fort Young Hotel. They better get this one sorted quickly and issue a public apology to Jah Cure.
