Killing in Kalinago Territory

The body being taken away

There’s been a stabbing incident in the Kalinago Territory which has resulted in the death of a man.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at Gullet River.

The victim has been identified as Nixon Francis and he was reportedly stabbed by his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

A large crowd has converged on the scene.

A source on the scene told DNO by telephone that at 12:00 pm Francis’ body was still lying where he fell, hours after the incident occurred.

DNO is on the story and will bring more information as it becomes available.

Here in DA we have a history where the physical, verbal, and emotional abuse of women has been tolerated for years. Not that I am condoning any violent act by anyone, but our women have suffered domestic violence for decades.

so it’s ok for a grown man to hit a child but not his wife…..well maybe the wife was disobedient too and she would not change her ways so he had to beat her..if a child can get blows for not abiding by the rule so should a woman…it’s only fair….. you spank a child when you can’t communicate with them..but when they are older 7 and up spankings should stop….if a woman can’t get beaten well then a child should not also…..

You are so negative. Say something kind. Do you ever look on the bright side and give people the benefit of the doubt? You twist and turn everything into nothing good and excellent. He may have been a kind person. This person should know.  Let us hope that God forgave him his sins and that his soul is resting in peace.

I share the same centiments as many others, but first,I express my condolences with the family and friens. It is obvious that the public is already trying the case in the defense of the perpetrator. how amazing is this, What if it was the dead who had done this , what would b the verdict? of the public.all in all people should take the law in their hand in the name of self defence.lets just pray for the wellbeing of the children that GOD will work out a favourable verdict for all involved GOD BLESS

I agree with you… and as a man, i want to let my fellow men know that it is wrong to put your hands on a woman… Sometimes, if things not going right or the way you want it, walk away.. If you know you can’t drink or each time you drink you start acting stupid and irresponsible, well don’t mess with the devil’s bottle.. Leave it alone or drink responsibly… Now, if you try to do that and your friends critisize you saying you can’t hang and all kind of nonsense, well they are not true friends, tell them: “as a boy, i didn’t know my limit, but as a man i do”…

Imagine a person goes to sleep and wakes up and later within the wink of an eye, through some misunderstanding or argument, as two examples, he/she is dead. How quickly this could happen. What I can state is, there is a reason why she stabbed him. Under normal circumstances a woman at home would not resort to this sort of violence for no reason. Probably she may not have intended to kill him but the area where he was stabbed this caused his demise.
It is the job of her defense and the government prosecutor to debate this in the Court of Law, according to her testimony and that of other witnesses, if any about her intent, whether it was premeditated or instantaneous – on the spur of the moment – and what truly caused his death. Although he was stabbed, he could also have died of shock, a heart attack and losing a lot of blood.
Why do you think that some people are acquitted and others are not? It is due to evidence presented, how it is presented and which side was instrumental in pleading the case for and on behalf of the perpetrator and on behalf of the government.
In Canada, it is stated, “on behalf of the Crown.” Canada is still a Sovereign country.
Keep in mind that a crime and/or murder committed is committed against “The People”, namely the public. In this case it is against Dominican residents. They do have a right to get upset about crimes and murders in DA. They are not allowed to take matters into their hands. The Law is the authority and The One to handle it.
We are the world and we are the people of the world. We who are Dominicans and who reside outside of it are obviously angry and disappointed at what is occurring in DA.
Prayers are needed for many who have swayed far from God, who do not worship Him and not recognize Him as the Creator and Ruler of the world. This is caused by the manner in which people live and the company which they keep. Some people do not know when to run, very fast and far away from uncomfortable surroundings and trouble. They also do not know how to control their emotions and temper. It is said, “Think twice before you talk.” I also say before taking up a weapon, ask God for patience. It works! This murder is another typical example. We will hear more about it.

      @ cha!!

I began the year not realizing that it was a Leap Year until I was reminded about it. For some strange reason I cannot recall the Media said anything about it or made much of it.
As I go about my business I do not remember that it is a Leap Year. For a moment I forgot it until you stated it and it made me smile.
It is usually stated that during a Leap Year there will be a lot of adverse occurrences.
Have you heard that this is a good year to propose and that during a Leap Year women can ask men to get married? :) I hope this is not what she did and a quarrel ensued which caused her to stab him.
Setting jokes aside, a life has been lost, has been taken away. She must have been very angry to do such a thing. Let us wait and hear what she has to say about her reason for murdering him. Those who knew them should be able to say if there were previous problems in that relationship. Witnesses will also give their testimony.
You know the saying, dead men tell no tales. He is not here to defend himself. May his soul rest in peace.

Some of the remarks on here may ring some truth to them and at the same time some are shocking, one should not solve any conflictt with violence. On the other hand, what could have made this woman snap and go to that extent. And unfortunately the violence against women in DOMINICA is so bad many are turning a blind eye to it.Even police officers are able to beat their wifes and girlfriends the “claim to love” and NOTHING is done about it.In North America and Canada its the same, however these men and women know that there’s consequences for their actions, and serious ones at that. So if one in Dominica has no one to go to for help, then this is going to be the result. There comes a time when one just has enough.

Has the DA government not passed a Law against child abuse and also women; adults in general?
Last week the Canadian government passed another Law, one against elder abuse. There are family members and also caretakers who seize their property and bank accounts while they are unable to help themselves due to illness. The stories are many. Those people will be prosecuted. It may not prevent the greedy and wicked to prey on the vulnerable but if caught, they will be severely punished. Such a Law was long overdue. Many adults/senior citizens have suffered at the hands of those who take care of them. No exception women, wives, girlfriends who are unemployed or are not working while they nurture the children and who are dependent on men.
May the Dominican government do something about all this and soon.
Laws are enacted to protect the vulnerable. This also includes the gullible.

This is truly a sad day for Dominicans. This story is disturbing on many leves. It speaks to a lack of police presence for the protection of our citizens. it speaks to a lack of emergency medical services in Dominica. Most disturbing eas the fact that a Dominican would stoop so low as to snap a picture of a dead or dying man, and post it on facebook. We need to spend time in discussion of social unrest on our beautiful island, because no one deserves to die like that. That was someones son or father – where was the police when the aktercation was in progress? I am deelpy saddened by the events that have been recentlt unfolding on our once peaceful and nurturing motherland.

Sadly, as society progresses so do the issues that come with development. I feel nostalgic about life in Dominica, 25,30 years ago, but I also know that it is impossible to revert to how things used to be. We have been exposed to so much, and have become desensitized as well. We have seem to lost our values, morals and the ability to differentiate between right from wrong.

Our children o longer play hide and go seek, moral, rounders, hopscotch, marbles, read the student’s companion or go to church every Sunday, or even respect their teachers. They are more consumed with what society has to offer now which is time in front of the computer, telephone etc. Being influenced by so many avenues that we have little or no control over what they read, hear, or see. We are not even sure how to discipline.

It is unfair to blame everything on lack of employment, although it may have a hand to play, but we should really look at the bigger picture. Before our parents were not all employed in technology or government companies, they actually toiled the soil, consume their foods, take it to the market, or go overseas as hucksters to sell. Now toiling the soil or raring animals is no longer cool.

Our society is consumed with a certain type of lifestyle that cripples great ideals about humanity, compassion, integrity and most of all love. We may mever get back to where we used to be, and we may not even want to go back there at all. Looking forward we just have to be more vigilant in the things we can control, and try to see how much influence we can impart on our own circles of friends or family. It is a challenge not just in Dominica, I think that the world would be a much better place if we each do our part and see how we can help society become less desensitized to violence

What am talking about .for the people who being very inconsiderate at the moment think your thoughts over because this is a very sentitive moment for the family especially the children who saw their mom being abused over and over. I witness some of this abuse with my own eyes .just a tip(if they want evidence try the police station am sure this couple name is on record many times.this is not a time to be funny many lifes is affected by this sad situation.not that it matter to u but I have been away for more than a decade and I can’t believe this abuse was still going on.I feel sympathy for his family but not him it was a long time coming every human can tolerate but so much.I say it was self defense .be trough francess.

      March 21, 2012

well both of them use to beat on each other, they were each others punching bag for decades now and if he had killed her i am sure the same sentiments would be expressed. this has been a community problem for a long time and i know of only a hand full of people who tried to interven.today eveyone has a story about what they know, what they witnessed, How many people have a story of what they did to try to help. abuse in this family have been going on for over 20 years now. WQho do we blame? well we could blame the police for never taking it a step further or probably for not investigating due to numerous complains on both the man and the woman part cause i am 101% sure that tere are reports By Nixon As well as Frances. so please people try to be considerate in this matter not for you or your neighbor but for the children who are seriously trumatised right now. if you can extend a helping hand now is the time to do it. These children are on their own right now and will appreciate all the help and support they can get. either emotionally or any other ways possible. for some of us we were maybe too young to help or interven in BIG PEOPLE business at the time we saw the abuse going on….some were afraid….some thought satying away was best…what ever the reason what is done cannot be undone…but we can all make it better for the ones most affectedd…the children….

It appears that our little island has become close friends with violence to include murder. Comments like that of Parro is getting liked by many. The woman did not intend to kill the man. Look at where she stabbed him. It may be his dorminant hand. It just happened to hit an artery so he bled out. i am sure thats what she is going to say… Sorry that he died. There could have been reform in Christ for both.

    • Peeping Tom
      March 17, 2012

What was she intending to do with the object used to stab the deceased? Tickle him? Scratch him?

One mistake we often make is to snatch a weapon in a heated situation. Once you pick it up, you will use it with deadly aim, at least to put down the target. In the process of incapacitating the target, you can cause death.

      Solution? Fight without weapons.

(Now, don’t get on my case about promoting violence. I am not. The reality is that even as we read this story, some persons may very well be plotting a fight or involved in one. So, i say, no weapons.)

The human body is filled with veins and arteries which means a person can die from a stabbing to any part of the body once there is enough blood loss. Stabbing indicates intent to kill. The only way I could understand is if it was done in self defense. Otherwise, it was an intent to kill.

By the off chance do we watch shows like snapped and deadly women. The line between sanity and insanity is really a filament. it’s easy for any of us to snap and do something that is against the law. Please wait for the facts of the situation to judge. some of us are saying that if she were in an abusive relationship she could have left and found another man. Do we realize how many of our women and men are in abusive relationships and cannot leave for whatever reason. It is however always sad when we must revert to violence to solve a problem. Pray wont do a thing for us. We need to look inward and look at what’s going on withing us with a resolve to improve on those qualities which are not righteous.

This is a very sad moment in time for both families but the fact remain that a man reaps what he sows. And I would like to appeal to all Dominica woman to stand with this lady. She has been suffering from abuse for years now and the law officers just treat it as an internal family matter. This man has tried cutting off one of her breast,he has attacked her with a fishing spear so she is infact just being lucky to put an end to this guy so that no other woman will suffer under his hand. So people when you all are commenting please be careful of the venom that you all are giving out. Again I am a man and i am appealing to all woman to stand with the lady. i’m not saying she did a right thing but when society is falling our women they should stand and be resolute. Do you know that he once broke one of her arm and after she recovered he broke the other arm? Are you aware that on some occassion she would be moving around without 1 or 2 finger nails? Its becuase he would root them out and the poor lady would keep on saying that she lost them becuase she pound her finger. Are you aware that on some days she would be missing patches of hair? Are you aware that this lady has been dragged on the road like a bag of rubbish? This guy is my cousin and I warned him many times. His answeres were, “Big Man Rule.” There are many more kalinago women suffering from abuse and i want them to come out and take actions. If I ever become a leader surely i will make it my duty to protect my kalinago men and women but when they form the fool i must find a way to deal with them to make my communnity a peaceful place. jump high jump low……i will say it again…..the 2 places that are most important here…the homes and the legal system…but the legal system can only impose punishment after the crime is committed…

a lot of parents don’t know how to raise kids properly…kids will go wrong…they are going to disobey…they are imperfect with young inexperienced mind….it is u to the adult to guide them on the right track unsighted proper approach…give age appropriate discipline and punishment…

and most of all everyone needs to feel loved….i remember some years aback in a certain state in the US…the officials were so fed up with crimes being committed by young people that they wanted to pass a law in which kids under 18 should not be out after 7 at night…

any kid under 18 who would were caught would be dealt with but they realize that it was too difficult to be enforced and the police were too busy with other crimes to chase down teenagers

    • tiny
      March 17, 2012

the parents don’t know better and their kids end up being the same type of parent and the viscous cycle will continue….so you ministers teach your flock…because those christian are abusive as the non christian..teachers do your part…comfort these kids who are full of anger …

like i said we are living in an imperfect world and there will always be crime but we can certainly decrease it ….

    • tiny

errors..guide them on the right track using the proper approach…there is a right and a wrong way and illegal way to correct your kids…

There is never a goodtime for crime. WE listen to the radio stations and television programmes and there is no sense that we as CHRISTIANS are in the lenten season . Its a shame. There is the deepening in the influence of SATANISM in our beloved Dominica. Vampires are all over the place. Young people are into ” Worshipping the other sides ” and we have lost it. You have a solid point. We fail to remember the sufferings that Jesus went through for our sins. See what happened to Sodom and Gommora. Though matter how upside down and inside out, back to fornt things are and that politics has gone over board, we should still continue praying. I am doing like Parrie and I say that only 20% of the population has not resorted to crime. If this is a sign of poverty, then there should be an 80% increase in earnings across the board. If this is a sign of drug dealings then call in Scotland yard. If the justice sysytem has failed, bring in foreign judges(non-Antigian). If this is a sign of failure from the no law no constitution guy, then call in a vote of no confidence. Do not do like him and take the law in your hands. Please don’t.

Allah says in the Quran: They ask you concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: In them is a great sin, and benefits for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit.’

Chapter 5:91 (Holy Quran) Shaitân (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allâh and from As-Salât (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?

The root causes of this senseless killings is paganism. The people of Dominica fail to understand that in order for us to build a righteous society is for them to give up the European interpretation of Christianity they have in their minds. I know this truth is hard to accept but God does not like the arrogant man.

When people fail to have fear of God in their hearts then their desires are let loose.

Of course, Saudi Arabia which enforces Islamic law is far far better than Dominica, so is Oman. The crime rate is extremely low. Take a look at all the Muslim lands that have war you will see clearly its because the West have invaded these lands. Afghanistan = Invaded
        Iraq = Invaded
Palestine = Invaded by white “Jews”
Kashmir = Invaded by Hindu pagans
Name another Muslim country or else there is safety, love and compassion in these countries. Saudi Arabia for example, one can leave their door open, no one bothers your things, yet in Dominica things are getting worse.

I wouldn’t be too quick to condemn any form of Christianity for your “prophet” and founder of Islam was not just a pedophile justifying all his immoral deeds with new recitations but also a murderous individual who killed many more than he pardoned. And even then, those he pardoned had to pay a tax to remain “free” and alive.

Rama, do you have a copy of the Quran in your possession? Have you read a single leaflet about Islam from Muslim sources?

If you want to learn about Islam why not look into Islamic sources rather than listening and believing in the lies you were taught by Christians. By the way they were the ones who forced Christianity on our ancestors. Will you follow something that was forced on your ancestors? Learn from this Christian woman and don’t make the same error. Even if you are not a Christian a great lesson can be learned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsuESEVwd4o&feature=related

When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks, then when you have made wide slaughter among them, tie fast the bonds, then set them free, either by grace or ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. – 47:4
(different translation: ) When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads, and when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly.

Those who are slain in the way of Allah – he will never let their deeds be lost. Soon will he guide them and improve their condition, and admit them to the Garden, which he has announced for them. – 47:5

Muslims are harsh against the unbelievers, merciful to one another. – 48:25

        hey..thats what the koran teaches!!!

      March 17, 2012

      KORAN commands to kill infidels:

Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. – Sura 2:98

On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. – Sura 2:161

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. – 2:191

Fight against them until idolatry is no more and Allah’s religion reigns supreme. (different translation: ) Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is God’s entirely. – Sura 2:193 and 8:39

Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it. – 2:216
(different translation: ) Prescribed for you is fighting, though it is hateful to you.

      Careful with dem crazy Muslims!

Muslim_Always, I am very well versed in the Koran and the Hadiths having converted from Islam to Christianity. You may be a recent upstart from your country of Dominica, but I am familiar with the Hadiths, Koran ,and the writings of Ajiola, Bucaille, Huraira,Dawud, Pfander, etc. The question is not what I am familiar with BUT if what I have said about Islam or the so-called prophet is true. Deny the oppression in the 21st Century by Islam being perpetrated in Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, etc. At least any oppression by Christians was done in ancient times. Islam is still stuck in the Middle Ages.

Trickle down CRIMINALITY!! I have a suggestion find and prosecute the criminals who are rooming free in the Island, like the ones she attempted to murder G.O.N Emmanuel and hi wife while the slept peacefully in their beds on CHRISTMAS morning, and others and maybe all you will get some relief from more, and more, and more vioent crimes. Dominicans clean up all you country, take control. GO BACK TO COUNTRY. Get out of the jungle!! Sad, sad, sad, for Dominica.

We need to start some responsible discussion about crime in the land. To always link one particular crime to every crime which happen after is rather ridiculous and ignorant.

Mr. Emmanuel case is not more important than any other crime on the island? Why single his issue among the others. Should he receive special attention apart for other crimes? All crimes should be solved.

THE DEVIL TRIES TO TEMPT YOU BUT THE POWER OF GOD IS FAR GREATER TO CAUSE US TO SIN? WE NEED DELIVERENCE WE NEED PRAYERS WE NEED GOD. March 18, 2012

      @ TAINTED

Did you not read that his body remained in the identical position for a few hours and a crowd had gathered? If he is from that area they must have known about it prior to DNO being made aware of it and posted it. In any case they may have known about it within a few minutes or hours. I would not worry about that.
In big countries the Police will not broadcast the name until the next-of-kin and/or other family members are notified. The incident will be broadcasted but details of what occurred will be withheld until further investigation and even when the case is called if the perpetrator is caught, so as not to prejudice the case. You know how human beings can speculate and make all sorts of comments just as it is on DNO.
Dominica is a small place and news travel as fast as wild-fire. I have no doubt that the family in DA of all knew about it sooner than you think and before the Media.
DNO knows their job and what they are capable of posting or not. Give DNO credit for that. They do not need anyone to remind them or advise them.

I certainly follow the law regardless of what ‘leaders’ allegedly do…A little something called personal responsibility…

But then we all know u guys are using even tragic incidents to play politics. There’s no way u really think a woman stabbed her partner to death thinkin “Well Skerro is a Frenchman and he still dere so let me kill him.”

    • dimples
      March 17, 2012

Logically, this is a good point. Then, he has no right to be the leader. Tell me your leader, then I tell you who you are. Take Lybia for example. They could no longer follow the leader. Crimes have drastically lessened.
      Scare crow…….resign.

    • Justice and Truth
      March 18, 2012

      @ ME

That is a silly comment to make. If you think and assume that the leaders are not following the Law, it gives no member of the public the reason not to follow the Law. They still have to and are obligated to abide by the Law.
Consider if you sin and/or are living in sin and that your children observe your lifestyle. Although this is the example you portray to them which may cause them to adopt your lifestyle, it really gives them no reason to emulate you. Likewise any adult.
So because others choose a certain lifestyle and also as crimes and murders, do this give any one of us a reason for doing so? If they choose Hell will you follow them? Everyone is responsible for him/herself and will have to answer to God for their actions. We will not be able to answer for anyone or make excuses for them and for ourselves for we should have known better. It is in the Bible of all.
