Laudrick Bruno in trouble with the law

Bruno during a court appearance in August 2010 for the robbery of the NDFD in Roseau

Laudrick Bruno, who is on bail for the alleged robbery of the National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) and who was on a two-year suspended jail term for a burglary in Roseau, was fined fined $8,000 for illegal possession of a firearm.

He appeared in court and pleaded guilty on Friday to the charge.

Of that sum he is to pay $3,000 by June 30 or spend ten months in prison. $5,000 is to be paid by November 30 or by default serve 15 months behind bars.

Bruno was also ordered to serve a two-year jail term, which was suspended in March 2012 for the 2010 burglary of a business establishment owned by Leroy Henderson, known as Goodaz Fashion, on Cross Lane in Roseau.

During that burglary Bruno and another man stole $28, 622.25 worth of clothing from the establishment. He pleaded guilty in March 2012 and was given a two-year jail sentence which was suspended after his attorney Bernadette Lambert begged the court to give him a second chance. She said he had turned his life around, had enrolled in school and had a small nursery in Woodfordhill.

The Woodfordhill resident was ordered to pay $1,500 or six months in prison and warned not to commit another offense during the term of his suspended sentence.

However on Wednesday, May 16 2012, just two months later, he was arrested with a 9-mm pistol and will now serve the two-year jail term.

But that is not the end of Bruno’s trouble with the law. While he was given the suspended sentence in March and when he was arrested for the illegal firearm on Wednesday he was on bail for the alleged robbery of the NDFD.

The incident occurred on Wednesday August 11, 2010 at about 3:30 pm when three men, which reportedly included Bruno, robbed the establishment of EC$3771.30 at gun point.

The matter is still before the courts.

I disagree with the way that we are coming down on our young lawyers. A person is innocent until proven guilty. In many cases it’s quite the contrary but we must remember that everyone has the right to be represented before a judge and jury irrespective of whether we “think” they are innocent or guilty. See how many intsances around the world we have of people going to prison for years and only after is DNA and other evidence revealing that they were not responsible for the crimes that they were charged with. On another note, young man Bruno, you are bringing tears, shame and heartbreak on your family. When will you stop? What have they done to you that you are punishing them with grief and stress. Apparently, you do not realize how your actions are hurting them especially your father who has a duty to uphold the law. You make him seem like a man of double standards for having raised a son like you. Boy, cut the bull, serve your sentence and meditate on changing around your style. Frankly, I would revoke the nursery license that you were granted because the fact that you own an illegal firearm means that you are endangering the lives of the kids and workers who are under your business. Punto final!!!

Please leave that boy alone. They keep painting that boy as a bad citizen. He is a son of my friend and i know them as good citizens.

Are you serious? “They” may be good citizens, but obviously, “he” is not. Good citizens are not involved with illegal firearms or burglary.

Hate if you want! but for those of us who think people like him will turn their lives around because they were given a thousand chances. yes it can, and has happened but it has to be a commitment and divine intervention for change to happen, sadly those like him continue to make other people`s life a living hell and goes on to commit more crimes and in a worst case kill! cause they do not value their own life therefore is not yours or mine they will value. In that case i blame the court for droping the ball as usual and making a mockery of our system. You WILL BE DAMMED IF YOU DO AND DAMMED IF YOU DONT!
