Lawyer granted bail

Attorney-at-law Dawn Yearwood–Stewart was granted station bail in the sum $ 15,000 today.

Yearwood-Stewart appeared before Magistrate Evalina Baptiste at the Roseau Magistrate court Thursday afternoon where she was charged with perverting the course of justice.

Stewart was not required to enter a plea in the case which is an indictable matter and can only be heard in the High Court.

The preliminary inquiry into this matter will take place on November 21 in the Magistrate Court.

I picked up the article and really wanted to get to know more about the case. DNO has got to do better than that.
It is about time that we start dealing with white collar crime.
To the person griping about the e-mail hacking. You cannot have your cake and eat it. 1) you get away on the ipo as it was not put into law in time to handle a large part of the villa scandal. 2) you cannot now want to prosecute someone on laws which the big boys are only now thinking about because it affects them. balance my boy balance.

DNO Where is the story, what did she do this is not journalism. This is typical, your bloggers are all rendering their opinion on this article yet no where is it explained what she did but everyone seems to know that she is not guilty,DNO never mentioned the charge, any comment or opinion can only be derived from their personal knowledge of the case in question not from what is revealed in the article. This story was not ready for publication

Do you have proof that anyone hacked into anyone’s computer? and just for you edification;Dominica has no law against hacking! so before you bring people to court there must be a law.

she did not do anything wrong she went by the books. all lawyers help out clients into settling matters out of the court and as any lawyer representing her client interest this is wat she did. the police system is so freaking set of attacking certain persons but god is not a police. they bringing a chrage forward that will not be going anywhere they dont even know on wat entire basis and grounds they charge her for. they dont even know what penalty this charge brings. U all try to make an example out of her. she’s one of the best criminal lawyers on the island and u all are just trying everything to bring her down but she will rise above all.

Because other lawyers do it, does not make it right. They do it knowing it is wrong and that is why they don’t leave any paper trail, as they too will be prosecuted. In any other jurisdiction, a # of lawyers allowed to practise in Dominica, would have already been disbarred for numerous reasons. No lawyer should be above the law. It’s strange that you already know that the charge will go nowhere – is it because it is not valid or is it because of our corrupt justice system?

This is poor journalism on the part of DNO. This has been posted only due to it’s sensational nature.
More work should have been done to detail the nature of the perversion thus giving the readers a clearer understanding of the charge and it’s implications.

That said, it is encouraging that DNO seeks to report on all matters at the courts.

ADMIN: This is all the information we could get from officials. We are still trying to get more information and unless officials are willing to tell us, there is nothing more we can do.

To answer the general question, ‘perverting the course of justice’ is a criminal offence in which someone prevents justice from being served on himself or on another party.

Perverting the course of justice can be any of three acts:

    1.Fabricating or disposing of evidence
2.Intimidating or threatening a witness or juror
    3.Intimidating or threatening a judge

Not Mrs Yearwood-Stewart! What! Why? She is an excellent attorney and very intelligent. What exactly does perverting the court of justice mean? Mrs Yearwood-Stewart goes strictly by the book. Smh. Dont let them discourage you. Continue doing your good work Mrs Yearwood-Stewart. I would recommend your services to anyone. Shame on the system. Smh

Be brave dno, remember we spoke about the media having a responsibility to put pressure on figures of authority. Dno’s value to dominicans is far beyond the reach of the people u are afraid of. There will be outrage if ever dno have to be prosecuted for reporting misdeeds, much less for a comment that somebody decide to post in anonymity. It would be a clear admission of guilt if anyone was to attempt that, it would be a clear and present attack on our freedom of opinion and speech. Remember this. Where there is controversy there is opportunity.

DNO, most of us do not have any idea what “perverting the court of justice” means so we do not understand what the lawyer did wrong. I would appreciate an update on this story with some explanations for the public. I’m not trying to smear the lady, I just feel that since you took the time to publish the story you should ensure that we, your very loyal and devoted readers, should understand it.

Really Really- How I wish that others could be prosecuted for the same reasoning. Land tax evasion, interfering with criminal investigations, asking suspect to lie, covering up criminal and corrupt activities for politicians – the list goes on. Oh oh oh one more what about the prostitution of our passports?

DNO you have the email addresses of all those who comment on this Website. This name which appears and the person who provided the comments are not mine.
Please check your files. Someone is impersonating my name as appeared on your Website.
Surely, the person could have some common sense and utilize another name.
I dislike that someone else is utilizing mine.
Is there any way you can prevent this from occurring?
It is not fair to me and does not represent me and my comments.
      Thank you!
