STORY OF INTEREST: Jamaican man accused of raping 80-y-o mother shot dead

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — A 40-year-old man who was wanted by the police after he allegedly sexually abused his 80-odd-year-old mother, was reportedly shot and killed at his home at Top Hill, St Elizabeth early yesterday.

The Junction Police say that in the “wee hours” of the morning, three police officers attached to the station went to the house of Rodney Joseph, who was accused of regularly sexually assaulting and beating his mother.

The police say they tried to convince Joseph to exit the house and leave peacefully with them but instead he issued threats.

It’s alleged that Joseph subsequently rushed from inside the house with a knife in his hand and stabbed at a policeman who had to jump backwards to avoid injury.

A colleague reportedly fired three shots at the knife-wielding man hitting him in the shoulder and side. Joseph was rushed to the Black River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

People. Consider this. Knowing how Jamaican police well-armed and aggressive, would a sane man attack police? Also, woudl a sane man rape his own mother? This man needed help, he was wrong to attack the police, but with all the investment in training that the police have received in controlling various situations (including a man attacking a group of police with a knife)you would think this man should now be in an insane asylum not in a grave.

men using their daughters sisters and most disgustingly their mum who may have suffered under their(childrens) fathers to be raped mercilessly by their own sons and we know it happens should be stoned to death. What a shame.

It is strange, one day, they are praising the place for being the best place to live, and the next day, they are telling the world, that its men maintain sexual relationship with their aged old mother.

But in as much as that man needed psychological help, or that he existed with an evil and wicked mind, why did the police have to shoot and kill him. With the name given to them, which says “to serve and to protect’ the majority of policemen really do not seem as they have been trained to shoot without killing. Unless, they simply believe that when they fire a bullet at someone it must kill them.

It so difficult to understand the meaning of human existence and the functions of their minds, in this world of today.

@fUWP: I totally agree. They even asking him to leave peacefully. That is just disgusting, I would risk my job as a police and just shoot mister on the spot and put him out of his misery. That is really sick.

It is good that the police took care of the situation . I hope Dominica learns from this. There were a few similar incidents in Dominica and everyone including law enforcement just sit by and let it happened. What a shame.
