44-y-o man fined for stealing Bop spray and cutlass

A Laudat man has been fined for stealing a cutlass and a can of Bop insecticide spray from the home of another Laudat man.

Simon Cadette was ordered to pay $450 by December 1, 2010 or he will face three months jail after pleading guilty to stealing the items from the home of Denrick Royer on August 12, 2010.

According to the facts of the case presented by the police prosecutor, the complainant had gone to Astaphan’s Shopping Center in Roseau on August 12, 2010 to purchase his groceries then returned home.

The following morning, while he was about to make his breakfast, he realized that some of his groceries were missing. He went and asked his neighbours if they had seen anything and based on the information he received confronted the defendant on the matter.

Cadette had denied committing the crime and Royer then made a report to police.

Upon a warranted search of the defendant’s home, the stolen items were found and Cadette was subsequently charged.

During mitigation, the defendant apologized for his offense and told the magistrate that he had a lot of responsibilities.

For those of you who think the punishment is too harsh, you need your heads examined for encouraging more men to invade people’s homes and business places to commit crimes. They should all be punished. Although at times the magistrate gives out what appears to be unbalanced sentences. For e.g.only Community service for a thief, 41 year old Leonard Pond who stole items (repeat offender) valued at approximately $400 US. (while he was employed on the person’s property). What was Magistrate Baptiste thinking?

The truth is many Dominican men are LAZY and just do not want to work and even when they have a job sometimes, they want more the illegal way. When found guilty, they should do both jail time AND community service with uniforms identifying them as convicts. We want to be too politically correct these days. Always making excuses, poor malaway, blah, blah. NO SYMPATHY FOR A VOLEH OR CRIMINAL!! The number of thieves I saw parading through court last month is digusting. And of course only the women in the family are outside court supporting them and sometimes sootiwaying them too.

There is no program to put deterrents for criminals to be repeat offenders. We need to introduce a procedure that when these men break the law, a registry of their names/addresses should be made public. Law abiding citizens need to know who they are exposed to. All employees should start to ask for police records. Also when they are released, they should be given a document from prison that legally advises potential employers that they are ex-convicts. If they do not, put them on a jail work program. There is enough work to do in Dominica. . We are fed-up with those LAZY, no good criminals.

I live in the south of the island and for at least two months I heard all sorts of excuses from young men who promised to come and weed for me – mark you for their money. When I was fedup I started to ask just about everybody I knew – to look for someone for me. I eventually got someone all the way from Wesley – I gave him lunch and paid him $150.00.

He had Bop + cutlass money +.
You have a lot of responsibility – there is work in the country, find work for you to do.

$450 buying Bop for the whole of Dominica. Voler doesn’t pay, mister should buy his own Bop. Not even a Baygon nah, a Bop mister stealing…. stupes! I presume the Bop was to dotish the mosquitoes and the cutlass was to hashay them? Because everybody know Bop cannot kill a patat!

I find his mitigation was weak, he could have said when de neighbour spray his own mosquito, they coming across by him to hide until de fumes subside, so he just borrow de Bop to assist de neighbour in irradicating the mosquitoes…in de spirit of neighbourly love and co-operation. LOL. Them mosquitoes must be laughing because right now de Bop in custody as evidence, so no spraying, until case close or de owner make another shopping….ha ha. All you not easy in Dominica!

He commited a crime, so he needs to pay for it!! It is also sad that a 44 year old man would commit a petty crime like that, and thats how it starts, from petty crime to larger sentences…a crime is a crime, and a sin is a sin.
