Kiethroy Fredrick, 17 of Salybia, will have to pay the court $2,500 by October 30 or spend 1 year behind bars for the stealing of electrical and domestic supplies from a Layou resident.
Fredrick, who now resides in Layou, pleaded guilty to the charge of theft before Magistrate Evalina Baptiste on Tuesday Morning.
His alleged accomplice Ansbert Valmound, 19, pleaded not guilty and will be tried at an arraignment schedule later this year.
The value of the items which included a bicycle, DVD players, power tools and other articles were estimated by authorities to worth $9,900.
According to the facts of the case, on Tuesday April 19, at about 10:30 pm, Gethyn Phillips and husband Lawrence Sturge were awaken by noises in their yard as the accused, along with his alleged accomplice, ransacked the 20-foot container which the complainants use as a storeroom. According to Phillips, “in the morning we discovered the container was empty.’
The complainants then reported the episode to police.
“Officer is me and Ansbert that go by the lady in Layou Park and take those things,” Frederick told police when accosted.
He then added, “Officer I will take you for some of those thing where Ansbert and I hide them.”
The defendant who was not represented by a lawyer and who was convicted of a similar offence in the past told the court in his plea for leniency, “I am sorry, it will not happen again.”
During the proceedings Magistrate Baptist sounded a warning to Fredrick. “You need to reform yourself,” she stated.
Before handing down the sentence, Baptist consulted the Criminal Justice Reform Act, which provides stipulations on dealing with offenders below 23. Baptist also considered that the defendant pleaded guilty and did not waste the court’s time.
Meanwhile outside the court room, in an interview with DNO, the complainants express gratitude and praises to the authorities pointing out “The Police was amazing. They worked through the night to retrieve the items and they got everything back to us in 24 hours.”
boy everytime I wishing for a voleh to come and try and tiff my stuff chap I chapping them HAHAHA
It never does. Sooner or later those who steal and live dishonorably will get caught.
He is sorry? It won’t happen again? I doubt that. There are some chronic thieves who cannot help from stealing. They only have to see an opportunity and they will embrace it. It is called temptation and weakness of the mind and body. Once a thief always a thief unless. He is in dire need of counseling. He cannot change on his own. He needs help. It would be wise that he receives same.
Give him Jesus! He needs the grace of God. He must practice the faith – go to church and pray to God to assist him. He must be serious about changing. Only then he might be reformed.
think b4 u act my brother… u did 1 thing rite n that is u did not lie to thee officers n wasted the court time
He was taught that stealing does not pay. no evidence that he learnt.
