Another killing! Stabbing victim succumbs to injury

A confrontation between two men has led to a fatal stabbing in the Portsmouth area.

The incident occurred some time late this afternoon and was confirmed tonight by police spokesman Inspector Claude Weekes.

However, less than a hour after breaking this story, it was confirmed by other reliable sources that the victim succumbed to the injury.

Weekes had said earlier that he could not speak on the nature of the confrontation because investigators are still compiling the information. At that time, he said the man was still on the run.

DNO will continue to follow the story as it develops.

This is the fourth murder in six days, and the fifth tragic death in less than a week.

Last Wednesday, 32-year-old Goodwill resident Omara Smalls (formerly Mwanga Freeman) was gunned down on High Street in Roseau at about 9:30 p.m. No one has been arrested for his killing.

A few hours later the following day, a mother was taken into custody for allegedly killing her two daughters, a five-year-old girl and a two-month-old baby. They allegedly stabbed to death.

Yesterday a 17-year-old drowned in a Canefield river. His body is yet to be found.

Everyone is calling on the preachers to pray but when they pray, is some weird political prayers they giving. SO let’s leave prayer to individuals because it would seem that these pastors are contributing to the curse of the island.

please dominicans if you dont have good to say dont say bad because we all have brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and children and we dont know what walks of life they will choose. for the people who knew munger for the good he was let them grieve their friend family whatever he may be i peace. you saying all these hurtful things cant change what happen for he is not there no more but we are there and who ever digs a pit for his neighbour shall fall in itr. so for the people that wish him dead before he even was be careful what u wish for because your wishes can come back and bite you in the ass. we were all born innocent and be very realistic we are growing up in a real corrupted world. it takes one with strong mind to walk away from temptatio. look for example adam and eve they ate the fruits from the tree that god had ask them not too because lucifer told them if they had eaten from that tree they will see the light and they will have the powers like god so who are we who are born to sin . munger was a great guy . i have known munger long time ago even before all these money and stupidness you guys talking about. dont let what people have bother your mind for u dont know what they have done for it. dominica is not that paradise u guys talking about. dominica was poisoned long time ago before mwanger would be a teenager. all u forget all those drug lords that wa s running dominica . all the hatians they give our passports to live in dominica they bringing all their curse in dominica. who did this the government selling our pasports and birth papers for chinese and haitians . thats where corruption start. giving who they want all the big jobs and they not even qualify for it. they come out in america and canadaand babysit for years or take welfare and then come to get all the good jobs that our hard working parents send their children to school for. thats what drives our young chidren to life on the streets because there is no jobs out there for them to do. what is the salary a week down there. you cant even buy food for your kids to eat and you working . thats what send youg people to steal and do crimes. i remember a story of a young man telling me how he stoway on a boat to go to guadeloupe because his mother usedto give him dry bread in a paper bag to go to school and he was fed up of being hungry and thats how he turn to life on the streets and look at him now he changed his life around has a big house and running buses in dominica. people can change ,we all take chances in life who are u who always had bread and butter on your table to judge one who didnt have. i sure the people that are giving all the negative comments dont know what is ti struggle to go hungry for a day. i know because i experience it first han.d so please give us time to grieve our friend for u dont know him the way that we do . dont encorage hate and bitternesss because it might come back to fall on you and your childrens children and kep in mind dominica wre full of paros and drug dealers long time before my dear friend came into the picture. so if one of your familily members is a paro try to get him help but dont go hating on munger because hes gone now looking down on how ecvryone is fussing and fighting over him we all go in different ways. my dear monger i will live always defend your name for i know u better than alot of peopl.e. u were a big tedy bar inside. and some may say its becaus yu maybe give me stuff but u know i have everything i need even money to buy dominica maybe i should. rest in peace . love always from somone who cares

@Trevor Johnson: Hi Mr Johnson. Why don’t you predict good things. By the way as the saying goes “Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Please take heed as to what you may use your tongue to say. You live in Trinidad and your are there predicting for our young men /women to be devoured by the enemy. for whom are you working?? The Heavenly Father or the enemy. Choose you today whom you may serve. Because you don’t support the now government that you must use your tongue to predict evil over the Nation. We are directed to pray for all our Leaders. So whether you support or not (you are free to support whoever you wish to). Who ever gave you the right to predict evil over the Nation. Sir with all due respect to you pleasssse refrain from doing that act and put your knees down and pray for the nation. Sir, do you have relatives here in Dominica? Do you have young children?? Don’t you know that sometimes when we ask for doom and gloom, it comes back to haunt us. How would you feel if you were in the shoes of the Victims Family and Perpetrator’s family. We do not know when the strike or striker will be at our doorstep. So let us all agreee and together fight the enemy with prayer. We have to cleanse ourselves for prayer to work. Pray for us all in the country. Grow up and move forward and bless the land. Whether we support RED. Purple, Green, Blue, Pappy yellow, after all we are Dominicans when the elections are over. Heavenly Father Bless our lovely Nation and shut every lion mouth who are there to aid the enemy in his quest tot kill steal and destroy our young people. We ask for a special covering and your sons shed blood over each and every young persons mind on our island. Let your love flow within all of us here so we can be each others keeper in words and deeds. Father convict us when we do wrong and we know that you love us so much that you will forgive us. We pray for the negative talkers – convict them and send your holy spirit to touch them so they will turn to you Father as you are a Father of love and love yes true love will flow in this nation as we all join hands to seek your face to protect our nation. Thank you for protecting our nation this far from the bad weather.

@Dominican – London Base: i think we should pray for our teenagers who get involved in SEX ,unprotceted sex too. u see when a teenage girl has a baby at 15 for a teenage boy 15 too . what kind of parent can she be , how will that child get all his/her needs. by time this child is 8yrs and according to where they live ,u hear that23yrs old mother saying ” OFFICER I DOH NO WAT TO DO WITH HIM AGAIN”. NOW WITH A CONTINUATION OF THAT WAT DO U EXPECT TO HAPPEN IN DOMINICA? SO U SEE THE CHANCES OF THAT CHILD BECOMING ATISOCIAL STARTED FROM BIRTH.

It is only when someone high in society is the victims that things will change.

And Trevor Johnson, murder is against the law and so is high jacking other people’s e-mail and posting stuff in their name.

Human life has no value in Dominica no more. I mean the place small, everybody knows everybody and man them days find its like a drink of water to take the life of a bredren that you raise knowing.

The onous is on the government to retaliate against this rash of crime. But I guess come election time, politicians doh wanna be remembered as the ones that sent people’s children to the gallows.

With progress cometh what????????? Destruction. Dominicans, We asked for progress and never thought to stop and think of the consequences, all the baggage that comes with it. All hope is gone and I do mean that. There’s not turning point now – way too much US influence through TV…….way too much Chinese influence (dem good for nutting) need I say more? We could pray, scream, bawl, shout, kick up and down, jump from Hillsborough bridge, fall from a coconut tree and that CANNOT stop what is to come. The seeds have been sown, so the harvest must be. The crime rate in Dominica is getting out of hand. We are losing the battle against the criminals in Dominica. It started in Jamaica, moved to Trinidad, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts and now we are feeling the pain in Dominica.

My PREDICTIONS are based on what I am experiencing in Trinidad. It has nothing to do with what I want for my country. When people like Lennox, Matt and Angelo are fighting a war against white collar criminals you people sit here and bash them all day long. Crimes are not just murders. Corruption in public office is part of the criminal activities destroying my beloved country.

I am not dissing Dominica. I am merely saying it as I see it. I love my country and its people dearly but MORE TO COME….

Such a pleasant man. Very soft spoken, kind individual. Never look anybody trouble, but because some idiot figure he gonna brand the man a battyman, a bigger idiot take that as his right to slay the man. What a shame. People need to be careful of the words they speak. We often find no harm, no foul in spreading propagander, rumors and lies on our fellow men and just innocently, the man lost his life. Why….because he was too nice? He was too kind, too well mannered? So am I to believe now that it’s a crime to be polite? The unformtunate thing is that our judicial system here is so weak that if this dumbass migt not even face jail time, or if he does, it would be for just a few months. We need the death penalty in Dominica cause this shit going overboard.

You enjoy getting carried away and then come with “I told you so, I knew this etc”. Grow the hell up!When it rains it rains on every house in the area!

@ Lee this is truly tragic. Whatever his sexual preference, he didn’t touch him, or speak to him. How can someone take a knife, cutlass, machete to another human being without stopping? What animal would do such a thing? This is just too sad, Dominica needs more than just prayers, we need a turn around. Too much violence.

thats true yet still i dont believe thats going to stop crime 4 any reason even though it might be the right way and it maybe possible. how in the world even though some one may be gay its definitely thier choice to be. and their is no way at all that this could have been my family for him to be dead just 4 watching some one. IMPOSSIBLE. i wud definitely try and kil bck so the answer to all this criminals and their shit is to hang them and get them killed. this survival and life in prison is all BULLSHIT cuz on the other hand the family of the deceased is their suffering and payin tax so the murderer cud eat their own money after killing their family. NEVER .if it was my family dat got killed and the murderer out on bail id DEFINITELY kill that back so it wil be like a chain reaction if the murderers dont get hanged so the law needs to be passed. HANG THEM THAT OK

I know I will get some heat from the church-goers and bible-thompers, but you know what, I have never been one to put my head in the sand for fear of criticism. So, here I go…

I am a god-fearing man. However, it always amuses me when people use prayer as a crutch for everything. The funny things is, those who stomp and pray, and jump around throwing the bible in the air, are the ones who most often step out the door and foresake their brother or sister. Prayers without action do not solve problems. Prayers without constructive/proactive action are just words that may fall on God’s deaf ear. Say a prayer, take no action, and go to sleep. You will wake up next morning with the same issues. I am not saying that prayer is bad. However, some of you need to stop waving the prayer magic wand. Instead, go out to your communities and talk to the youth. Create assistance programs. Create family crisis centers.

Educate families on practical solutions to everyday problems. Don’t give them a bible, tell them to say ten haile marys, and poof, problems are gone. It doesn’t work that way.

What do you think this saying means? Heaven helps those who help themselves. I do not think that heaven helps those who say their prayers and stand there hoping that a solution will fall from the sky.

Ok! let’s have the bible-thomping criticsm thrown my way.

I am really and truly saddened to read this. Once again another young man has lost his life. Life is very precious and is given by God.

The person who carried out this act, I would like to ascertain how are they feeling ? Another family is in mourning and it will take a very long time to get over it.

This same scenario has happened to my brother over thirty years ago in the same Portsmouth. He was a very young man, twenty six years old, was not married or even had a child , yet his life ebbed away by one fatal wound with a knife. Our mother never recovered from that shock until her death two years ago.

Let us pray and ask for guidance on our island.

@Lee: Lee, I don’t know the circumstances of the stabbing but if that’s the case then it’s real saddening. Now that he has taken a life and has become a murderer does that make him any better than being gay? I firmly believe in the policy “to each his own”. If the young man didn’t approach him in any unbecoming manner what was the reason for this? We must learn to live and let live.

There was no ‘confrontation’. The man, a very quiet individual about 45 years old, Clement Johnson was simply walking along the Indian River bridge at Portsmouth when the alledged murderer lunged at him with a sharpened cutlass and started slashing him like he was possesed.

The lyrics of songs from the US and Jamaica, the TV images of Chicago gang life and other negative influences all merge together in the minds of these young guys and they feel that this is the cool way to live. Its so stupid and sick.

When ever i come on here(which i do daily) it breaks my heart when ever i read something like this.Even if i live abroad i still love my country and my people i also plan on returning home someday to give back in what ever way i can. Sometimes we need to walk away, loosing your life over nothing isnt worth it. Doesnt matter if people think your a coward.Sometimes walking away is the best thing. Why kill someone ever something that can be solved??We didnt give life we shouldnt take someone else’s unles if its an accident or self defence. Just a few days ago i was boasting about to my Colleagues about Dominica and it’s low crime rate.I just wish my people would think twice before letting there anger take control of them. After being abused by my partner(am female by the way) i had so much anger in me and on many occasions i wanted to take him but i prayed and prayed and i never stop praying until i was finally able to disappear in the middle of the night and never turned back. But my point is we as Dominicans should pray for our country prayers move mountains, it sometimes takes time but it will be answerd. We should have just one day of the year for prayers only, we have carnival, easter monday, august monday, creale festival etc and we go out and have a good time why not have a day for prayers only. And one more thing we need more tougher sentencing for the murderers, rapist, child molesters, illegal firearms, attempted murder and domestic violence. Am not saying its ok for thieves to steal from someone after working so hard but it seems that they are the ones getting lifetime in prison and the ones we should worry about walk freely(murderers)is like life means nothing to some people, you could just kill someone if you dont like them or they watch you too hard?? And the next week you out free on bail?? I never understood why murderers get bail.Could someone please explain to me why?? Because i never get it. Never will understand why.Heavenly father am asking to watch over my country Dominica and keep my people safe from harms way.And remember peeps sometimes the best thing is to walk away from trouble. A pleasant day to everyone and don’t forget to pray even if its 5 mins a day.

I just sent my donkey box to the shop to have it fitted with body armor, knife proof, drug dealer proof, dirty politician proof. My house has been secured and gated. My dogs have been trained to chomp at the first person who gets within six feet of me. I have just purchased a bullet proof vest, and hired three eight-foot tall, three hundred-pound, security guards. You may be asking, what the hell does this have to do with the story? The next time I step out my house, I need full security detail; because at the rate things are going on my beautiful island, Jamaica will seem like a convent in a few years.

let this be a lesson to all. i’m sure this young man did not know that he was going to end up dead last night. we know neither the day nor the hour…just a simple confrontation and we could be signing our death warrant. i agree that our judicial system may be a bit lenient on cold blooded murderers.

    god god god.

i have two brothers who are both young adults and i pray to god that they continue to refrain from these kinds of confrontations. nowadays i’m even scared to think. what if? this question seem to be a burden on my mind….

its about time we start on a sensitization process for our young offenders and in general everyone!!!!!!!!!! this thing is getting out of hand and all we hear is DOMINICA???? dominicans are human beings and its expected that everything that is happening in the world could happen to us to…its only up to us to be our brothers keepers and stick together as one. when everyone is so divided i dont expect our beloved country to go much further. i cant do it alone. you cant do it alone. its got to be a collective effort on everyone’s part……

Someone asked what is Dominica turning to? First of all let us not ask this question about Dominica as we belong to it but is somewhere outside of it. I mean that Dominica is we, the people, in a Land with the beauty of God’s natural creation. The question should be what are we, the people of Dominica, turning to?

Our National Anthem described us as a “People full of Godly reverend fear”. We need to ask ourselves, is that description true about us today? In my opinion, the answer is no.

Our attitude towards the brutal death of another human a few days ago demonstrated that truth, regardless of the attitude and conducts of that individual. We demonstrated no form of Godly reverend fear, as we ravaged against this person, even if he was already dead; not to mention how we barked at each other with words of expletives and insults because we varied in opinions.

Someone suggested that we clean up our backyards. Well it not our backyards that needs clean-up; it is our minds. One by one we need to examine our minds and to decide, who and what do we think is driving us. All of us are talking about Life–his and her life, my life, our life–do we know that the only Life that there is the Life that exist in Spirit and Truth. That Life is the Life of Love, in the Person of Jesus Christ.

We receive this Life by faith, and we practice this Life by our attitude and conducts of Love. Would a person who is living in Spirit and Truth desire to take the Life of a fellow human being; desire to get rich through drug trafficking, stealing, or cheating; desire to have five or six sex partners at one time, or to rape and kill a young woman? The answer is no. Because those kinds of conduct are not conducts of Love. “For Love is of God, and everyone who loves, is born of God and knows God.” 1st John 4:7

Well what or who is driving us? The spell or the driving force is in our minds, as our human senses command us to follow, for the satisfaction of our flesh. People of Dominica, once more, I am asking you to look into your minds. Only you can answer the question or what are we, Dominicans, coming into. Only you can decided to make the turn around. Show God that you desire to repent, to change your heart and mind, for the benefit of your country and your people. We have to do this, everyone of us.

I leave you today with a Psalm of David; he says:

Search me O God and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts, see if there is any wicked way in me, cleanse me from every sin and set me free. Psalm 139: 23-24

Calling for or depending on others to pray is as if we are removing ourselves from the reason for intense or contemplative prayer. Do not focus on who is next. We do not want a next time; we want these kinds of torment and torture in our minds, which is causing us to commit those crimes to stop, once and for all. The cleansing must begin in us as individuals, that we might demonstrate this form of cleansing to others, that each one will desire for their personal self.

@sari sari falls: The events prophesied at 2Timothy 3:1-5,13 are being fulfilled, not only in Dominica, but worldwide. It’s bad news, but it points to good news – God’s kingdom will soon destroy this wicked system of things and restore the paradise that was lost by our first parents Adam and Eve.- Psalm 37:9-11,29. To survive, we must learn Jehovah’s will and do it.

What is happening in our country is very sad! I cannot believe that we have become like this! We need to have some kind of intervention because we cannot go on like this! Soon people will be scared to leave their house and Dominicans who live abroad will be wary of coming home because they are concerned for their safety. It seems as though there is a murder every day.
Please people, conduct yourselves accordingly! How can our lovely island be so small and have so much violence? What is happening to us? Instead of coming together and talking about issues we have with others, we prefer to gun them down or stab them. Wow!
We really need to seek God in our island! We need to get on our knees and pray for our young people. They are throwing away their lives! When did we teach our children that violence is the way? No, we have to be better than that! We have to because I am afraid for what can happen to us and our island.
And I want to add also that we need to be careful of the comments that we post on the internet. What is the point of all the evil words, negativity and hatred? If we don’t have anything good to say then we shouldn’t say anything. I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion but please remember that there are people from all over the world reading the comments that we post on DNO/Facebook/Twitter and all these social networking sites. We are leading others to believe that we are a country of hate when that is very far from the truth.

The government needs to send a terrifying message to potential murders and persons bent on commiting violence in Dominica. With these recent incidents, the government can no longer be quiet but needs to seriously look into the possibility of carrying out as soon as possible some executions on individuals convicted of murder

Execution by firing squad, lethal injection or hanging is urgently needed in order to send a message to vagabond elements that if you take someone’s life, the state has every right to take yours. The law today is no longer a matter of wrong vs right but is instead based on technicalities which can be exploited by some clever lawyers resulting in murderers escaping serious prison time for their offences. Hence individuals are not frightened about the consequences of their actions and do not hesitate to commit such horrible crimes.

Ofcourse, there are the human right groups and other advocates against capital punishment who come around in the disguise that they are fighting for human rights but whose actions and theories tend to quel decisive crime combating strategies thereby resulting in a climate of lawlessness. Well in life there will always be consequences to an individual’s action and for murder the ultimate punishment should be execution by the state.

The state has every right to carry out such procedures as laid down in God’s word (Genesis 9:6, Exodus 21:12,14). Law abiding citizens have no right to be leaving in fear; these vagabonds and murderous elements of society are the ones who ought to be living and sleeping in utter fear and torment.

Well papa Dominicans doh value life anymore these days man.

You know when I was a young child and they had just introduced 24-hour television in Dominica it was Friday night after dark ,Air Wolf , and Riptide we use to watch. BET was not part of d line up of channels in those days. So sports was on Ch4 ESPN and Basket Ball was a big ting in Dominica.

When people like a former chief librarian was on radio on a Sunday on a program called Confrontation and d lady did say television can become a bad influence on young minds if there are not additional avenues for the youth to channel their energies everybody wanted to give d lady blows.

Den Young & Restless cause plenty married people to experiment with infidelity and cause plenty broken homes as a result. Cell phone and d internet make d problem worse for married people.

Den all those movies showing how to rob business place and how to evade police and how to play discrete when using drugs and how to settle disputes with violence became like blueprints and roadmaps for all and sundry to adopt if you are weak. BET leaves nothing to the imagination and that is my opinion.

Church fall by d way side. Sunday night service just disappeared since people stayed home watching 60 minutes den murder she wrote and equalizer. Priest could no longer get an evening audience from their followers.

Den all d commercials dem just make we become a compulsive consuming society and we start to drive our parents and spouses mad to GET IT. Take loan , whatever to GET IT since our neighbor have it and me must keep up as well.

Well de lovely Dominica and all d rest of the World doh come upside down nuh?

Now all those that in Opposition now, especially d Freedom dem use to be in power in those times and they use to make Dominicans believe that we making progress as a people!!!!!! TV was considered progress.
Even my household was of that view, except my old man who had a serious problem with his boys who never wanted to go on d farm with him. ME self was a story too. Jerry curls was in style and tight jeans. Pap’s self lucky it did not have credit card at that time!!! D problem started when people started having more than one Tv at their home. TV became the babysitter and the one eye-monster in the house.

Well we are reaping what we sew and we looking for politicians to fix our problems. Yes wi people blaming d government for their own individual and mutually exclusive actions that has become Dominica’s way of life these days. Save for d evangelical churches, people fraid to openly praise and fear GOD these days – for fear of ridicule.

My last point is this: our behavior as individuals determine the health of our Nation and the reputation of our Country. If we are tolerant we receive positive feedback; if we are not we all will find ourselves always taking first chance on our aggressors before we lose our lives in the process.

Oh brother, brother. Just sad, sad, sad. When the leaders of a small nation like ours turn a blind eye to the ongoing ills of society and themselves become role models for criminals them we are doomed. Politicians, community leaders, pastors and others are afraid of speaking the truth. Police, DPP and Attorney General hands are tied are either afraid of or refuse to punish all them Big Bo Tia.

A restless youth cannot find employment, cost of living rising, nepotism is at its highest, drug use at its highest levels in history, police hands tied due to fear of backlash, a police department with no head at the top, those are the ills of society that is destroying our country. Yet still when we talk of these issues some on here fight back with senseless comments. Dominica’s problems are many but like my father always say, the easiest way to kill a snake is by cutting its head off. In other words, when there is a failure in expectations heads must roll and that my friend is whats needed in Dominica. We as a people must hold those in authority to account. Dominicans must learn from the Phillipines. Mass demonstrations in the streets whether you are red, blue, green, black or pink. Change must come and quick in order to save this land of pain.

We cannot continue in the same direction that we are heading. The rate at which we are going right now means we will soon take over St. Lucia and Jamaica in terms of crime per capita. Wake up Dominicans.

If we readour bible we wlll know why these thGings are so rampant now. When people turn away from God and put his words behind us the devil takes over. This is the result of our actions. Parents no longer see it fit for children to go to church,A ll we seem to offer our young people now is sewo and alcohol, and the lyrics of the music making it worse. The bible says’ If my people who are called by my name should humble themselves and pray, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins abd heal their land. DOMINICA NEEDS TO TURN BACK TO GOD.

Lord have mercy on Dominica! Oh God Look down here and cleanse this nation for we have gone astray.

These are the symptoms of a system gone wrong. It seems as if materialism has taken priority over morality.

These are signs of gross moral decay in a nation. Please Father, open our eyes!
