Man to find proper surety for bail after allegedly stealing tiles

Joseph Roberts of Fond Cole has to wait until he can find a proper surety if he is to be released on bail  after failing to provide one at court yesterday morning when he appeared on a theft charge.

Roberts allegedly stole a toilet set costing $390, three sets of tiles, a bag of grout and two tins of tile cement from the Fond Cole Community Center on January 21,2011. The total value of the items was $1,667.72.

Roberts, who appeared before Magistrate Ossie Lewis yesterday, also faced a charge of possession of cannabis to which he was sentenced to pay a fine of $300 by April 15, 2011 or he will face one month in prison.

Roberts insisted that though he was guilty of having the illegal drug he never stole the said items.

His attempts to obtain a self bail were futile. During investigations Roberts reportedly told police, “If is hell I have to go I will go” when he was confronted on allegations of theft and burglary.

The small quantity of cannabis was found while police searched him during their investigations for the other crimes.

He will appear in court on April 5 for trial in the theft matter.

Magistrate  Ossie Lewis presided over the matter. He was not represented.

All this is the government fault. People got no way to make money and buy the necessities cause they fighting over dual citizenship. They can take all the court costs and give it to many Dominicans still poo pooing in paper and pit toilet. Shame shame! Obviously the man need a toilet. Is he a danger to society? Jail is for rapist, phedophiles, murderers.

How can murderers walk the street and people who just trying to get by go to jail for non sense like this. True he is a thief but lets look at the big picture here. People in DA need the basics sanitary conditions, food, education clothing and water and the government waste people money defending themselves and their bad actions.
