Masked men rob Morne Jaune Village Council Clerk

robberyOne man is assisting police in the investigation of what was confirmed as a robbery in the Morne Jaune area on Friday, December 19.

The money was allocated for paying wages, paupers’ allowance and other business of the Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique Village Council.

Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent, Claude Weekes, told Dominica News Online on Tuesday that the incident occurred about 7:30 pm where money amounting to $20,000 was robbed from the Morne Jaune/ Riviere Cyrique Village Council Clerk.

According to him, two masked men armed with a cutlass and a firearm also took a mobile phone, among other items, from the clerk.

“The clerk was beaten up and struck with the butt of the firearm by the assailants,” Weekes said.

He said the clerk was on his way to the office of the village council when the incident occurred.

There is no word as to whether the victim was hospitalized.

So what the clerk doing with money at 7:30 pm in the night ? You are employed to work between 8-4, bank open between the hours of 8-3 on a Friday. So you mean to tell me the clerk spent an entire day at the bank? Hmmmm. Its either an inside job or irresponsibility of the clerk. The maximum time one may spend at a bank is 2 hours on avery very busy day. That clerk had six hours of high day to either secure that money at the council office or distribute that money to the people.

This crime and violence needs to be dealt with. Some of us have really lost the way. There is no more respect and value for each other, especially the elderly, needy, and less fortunate.( I despise the word ‘pauper’.)
We have to come to our senses as a nation but this comes with education. We must educate ourselves about our history and realise that Africans had civilisation and culture before they were colonised. We have adopted the slave masters’ lifestyles and have passed it down unto generation upon generation.
Unless we emancipate ourselves from mental and spiritual slavery, this perpetuation of self-hate, and hatred towards each other will never cease.

It is high time people stop holding big sums of money in their possession. Open accounts at the credit unions then those monies can be deposited to that account and the payment to individuals would be made either by cheque or transfer.

I would like to condemn all crime however I cannot ignore the obvious gap between the totak budget for puapers sllowance, salaries, and other business matters for two villages to that of the salary of the president of Dominica. Charles Saverin gets $30000 as compared to $20000 for the people of Morne Journe and the people of Riviera Cyrique combine. Note also the comparison with the salaries and allowances of ministers PM and even the advidors.
I say all of this in particular light of the fact that the $200 promised to seniors are not being fullfilled. Instead some seniors are getting $50 and $70 instead and some are getting no money at all.
Some people would prefer I say nothing and some would even say this is politics. Whether it is politics or not the truth is the truth. The budget for an area where serious money was spent to steal an election is much less than the salary of the president of Dominica and the PM individually. That is astonishing.

That money to give to the paupers were not a salary per say, its something to assist them. Most of the people have their families to look after them. Why do u want to compare the President’s salary to that of monies given to paupers. The Govt. promises to assist those senior citizens with $200.00 , those who do not have a direct means of income or pension . I think that the $200.00 promised, will go a long way

Stealing is a heinous crime but stealing from the poor and needy is beyond anything that words can describe. I think that part of their punishment is to wash the feet of the homeless in public!!! Imagine doing this at a time of giving and sharing. Shocking !!

I agree stealing from the poor is a heinous crime. Please don’t discount when politicians steal from our limited resources to sponsor election campaign-$32 million in 30 days and the very people of DOMINICA have no money for Christmas. We should not condone one set of criminals and give red carpet to others.
When we do so we are being criminal ass well cause we support those who steal from the poor and use their power to do so freely and bold facely. I sincerely hopeople you are not one of those who would rather not see the truth or hear about it.

Now , what u are trying to tell me, the money spent by the DLP during their campaign, came from the Treasury Dept? I cans see how a Cab. Sec. would allow such, nor the PM do not hold a key to the volt at the Treasury Dept.

      December 23, 2014

Not surprised at all. When the people have to sit by and watch money being spent on an election campaign – $32 Million in one month and none of that money created a long term impact on the people of Dominica I cannot be surprise at these crimes that are happening. Wherever there is economic slavery expect these type of activities and expect it to get worse.
Why be surprise when foreign artist come to Dominica for an election campaign and left with more than a million dollars; How can we just focus on the criminals who stole the money in Morne jaune and not focus on the criminals who sell our passports for personal gain; When thieves hijack $20000 from the village council I cannot be totally mad at them when these thieves sat back and saw people who lived out of Dominica for 30, 40 , years came back just to vote for a day or less and many of them went back with bribe money in their pockets while the struggling people at home have no money to buy sorrel or a pound of beef or vyan cochon..

As for me Lang Mama I en judging no F######g man and neither am I holding any man up on a pedestal. I believd that to every acting their is a reaction. Maybe if our passport money was in the hands of the people as oppose to a few politicians, lawyers, advisors and a certain sewer rat in new Jersey then we would not be so concerned about the rising crime in Dominica.

Hypocrites can judge me however they want and if they want to interprete my opinion in their own way da pwais yo. So I’ll say what I think- when xmas comes around right wrong or indifferent people want and need money and if one has a job and does not have the money at the time that alone is stressfull mucgh less not having a job and no money at all. Yo pa ka twavaille.

To those who stole the money – take it and do some thing useful with it let them find more money to give the poor peope that were suppose to get the crumbs from the $20000. One of those bill boards cost much more than $20000; the lavish rallies cost hundreds of thousands; bribery money; plane tickets and spending money; rooms at the resorts and hotels for party operatives and imported voters who had no family in dominica; all of these cost mucho money.

So to those thieves please don’t physically hurt anyone while you guys look for your share. Left to me I call your act righteous indignation. I would rather be called revolutionary than a hypocrite. I am not going to call for the heads of the $20000 thieves and promote those who steal millions of our passport money and utilize our treasury like their personal piggy bank. Millions of the petro Caribe money cannot be accounted for yet we want to see people who steal cheese and HIB go to jail.

Now DNO you may or may not post my blog- I may even be labeled a rebel rouser but I fully understand collateral damage and consequences.

because some robberies are staged security guards should sometimes be dispatched at short notice.there is also inside knowledge, where a worker is part of the plan even to the extend of physical assaults is part of the make believe plan broken limbs can be seen to have taken place, i am in no way saying it is the case in that present case.
