Men missing at sea; suspects arrested and charged in credit union robbery

Police say while a formal missing persons report has not yet been made, they are aware that three men may have gone missing at sea.

Reports reaching Dominica News Online have indicated that two of the men are from Grandbay, while the third is from Newtown.

Information is sketchy and the families of the men in question have not yet made a formal report to the police because they say they are hoping the three will return home safe and sound.

The three are said to have headed out to sea in the early hours of Monday March 19, and were expected back later that day.

However they failed to return – reports suggest that one of the men last spoke with his mother  during the day on Monday while off the coast of Scottshead.

When contacted for information on the matter, the police told DNO that they are hearing things like everyone else but a formal “missing persons report” has not yet been made.

DNO is following the story and will give you details as it becomes available.

Meantime, DNO can confirm that the police have arrested and charged a few persons in the armed robbery at the Marigot Credit Union on Friday March 9.

One of the alleged suspects, Iam Massicot, was shot by the police and is a patient under security guard at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

The suspects were scheduled to be making their first court appearances on Tuesday, where a number of charges were expected to be read to them.

The parents of Newtown must take a stand and do not give comfort to the “stranger criminals” when they come and put up shop inther neighbourhood. The community of Newtown must begin to speak. A whole generation of young people (male and female)in the age range of 13-20 years have been virtually lost to the “papas” and drug dealers who spot expensive motorcars, big houses, gold chains etc. Whose wives travel every summer to the metropolitan north. I am surprise the family of the missing men did not say they went “fishing”. I wonder why?

Now, everyone want to be hypocrites and saying ‘hats off to the police’. I always believe that our law enforcement officers are doing the best they can given the limited resources with which they have to work with.

Let us start appealing to those low down dirty attorneys who will stop at nothing to represent these SOBs, all for the love of money and not civil society. Let’s wait and see who will be ‘councel’ to find every loop hole there is to get them free

The SAD thing in all this, after the workers and Customers at the Credit Union were tramatized, some maybe even having nightmare up till this day, a magistrate is going to give these guys a mere 5yrs or 10yrs and then they’ll be let out in 3yrs or 5yrs respectively. Its time the Justice system reflect the extent of the Crime.

Great job CDPF!!! You have done your part. Now, for the DPP to build a solid case against these bastards and for the court to punish them to the maximum that is allowed under the law.

We too, the public, have a part to play. Pass on annonymous tips to the police! Don’t hide these thugs!! And most importantly, speak up. Go the courts if your schedule permits! Call the talk shows; call your parl reps; call the minister responsible for national security. Let them know that we expect and demand justice! Your voice matters!

Dominica’s judicial system is starting to upset me you know! Tell me why the heck Iam Massicot was back on the streets after having just been arrested in Feb. for burglary and assaulting two German tourists in Salisbury?

Why do the courts keep releasing these people back into society with little or no punishment for their crimes whatsoever! The laws and the judicial system should serve the purpose of protecting the law abiding citizens, not harboring criminals! I vex you know, that is blind nonsense now man! As for those blinking lawyers that keep defending them knowing good and well that they are guilty, let me just remind you “The love of money is the root of all evil! You are part of the problem!
High time this foolishness stop man. The same set of people tarnishing the country’s name. What is this now for me there nah? Crap man!

Ebeh Iam ca la not no easy cookie…

If that is true, shame indeed on the justice system for granting him bail.

I agree with everything except the lawyer part. You have defence lawyers who specialise in defence. It is a job like any other. It is up to the police to make evidence stick and up to the defence to do their job too. Some people are actually innocent sometimes and that I’d the reason for good defence lawyers. Only problem with that is, you get the guilty as well. From what I know, a lawyer is not really allowed to turn someone away if they ask for them. Or that may not be the case in dca. But anyway, it’s still their job

    • Hmmm
      March 20, 2012

I understand your frustration 100% but are you sure that Iam was arrested for the Salisbury/German incident or he was brought in for questioning? I don’t recalling reading/hearing any police report that someone was arrested.
Remember there is a difference between charging someone for an offence (with evidence to back it up) and taking someone in for questioning which does not mean that you are being charged for the offence.
