Mendes probes as more witnesses testify in election petition court case

Mendes

Two witnesses for the petitioners and four witnesses for the respondents took the stand during this morning’s session as the election petition matter involving Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt and Education Minister Petter St. Jean continued.

Fredrickson Sylvain claimed that he had distributed part of the 1,000-1,200 copies of the Notice of Disqualification that were circulated in the Vielle Case constituency, despite the assertion of Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan to the contrary.

Also taking the stand for the petitioners was Desmond Thomas before the two sides agreed that the remaining witness statements would be admitted into evidence as they were. All that except for that of Felix Prosper, who is expected to be in court on Friday to be cross-examined, since he is coming from abroad to do so.

Like a riveting hour of cricket in an otherwise quiet test match morning, the cross-examination of Jenner Guiste, a witness for the respondents, by Douglas Mendes, the petitioners’ attorney, breathed some entertainment into the proceedings. Mendes delivered inquiries that probed and tested but Guiste was defensive and managed to navigate them with some success.

Guiste admitted to the court that he had only attended two United Workers Party meetings but his witness statement said he had attended “a number” of them. Mendes suggested that he had exaggerated this statement.

Guiste testified to having received a leaflet from a Dominica Labor Party supporter, outlining reasons that the La Plaine public should not vote for St. Jean. The document itself never mentioned St. Jean by name and Mendes inquired as to which part of the document would have led Guiste to believe that it had spoken about St. Jean. He responded that there had only been two candidates in the election of 2009 in that constituency.

Mendes then sought to find out if Guiste thought that any information therein pertaining to St Jean was true and when Guiste responded no, he probed to find why did he believe it was about St Jean if they were not true. Guiste had previously claimed that he and St. Jean were friends.

The other witnesses for the respondents were Joan Hilaire-Guiste, Lawrence DeGallerie and Davis Thomas.

Court resumed at 1:30 pm.

The evangelical churches used to have big Dominica for Jesus crusade since labour party came to office the evangelical pastors are so deeply involved in politics as a result they have no time to pray for the country. Pride in country and it’s constitution.

BOZO, I checked, how can you make a fair assessment by a 10 second view, Huh? but that typical of Yahoos. In order for you to make an intelligent assessment you need to browse through, take you time and read and digest.I know reading and Yahoos are not friends, but try it, you might like it although my guess is the contents are wayyyyyyyy above your head.. I don’t expect you to understand a thing that s there, but please do read about George Orwell’s animal farm and how it relates to Dominica, bring a friend to explain it to you!

But I don’t think I will go back. It is too anti-Dominica. Despite our problems I don’t think Dominica is that bad as you making it sound. I think we can do constructive criticism but my gosh you make it look like Dominica is in the dark ages.

        I have seen better.

If it is as you say that if Skerrit were to loose and that he would be back in power immediately is an odd thing to say as there are severe penañties that accompny such a conviction, fines, possible imprisonment plus the loss of confidence that would ensue, globally we shall see.

let’s put it like that. to avoid all those fantastic comments just get the 2 accused to testify in court!! nobody believes any of the witnesses & think it is pappyshow.show the copy of the passports of both accused & case closed.

C.Bruce, my brother or sister, I have never seen such idiocy in all my life time. They can kill me if they want, but I will say it because I believe it to be the truth.. Dominicans have regressed. 75% of them. Boy the things a litte bit of free money can do. In the 1970’s Dominicans were politically, literate, and very conscious when it come to civi matter and pride in their country.. Now it is just a bunch of yahoo cult followers jus repating what they hear on that Dog and Pony Show from a man who called them cacadoes and cockroaches! and from another one who sent them to hell. They come here reading from their RED BOOK.. Gaddafi had a green one they have a read one, and they nt hearing beff! They just like flipping (soule) you know the fish with one eye that seeing only in one durection? That’s it. They leading them to hell and they Yahoos are obidiently following like soe brain dead sheep.. Man what happened to the geeation of the 70s? How did Domininca get into this state of decadance in such a short period of time? Just tie a dollar on a string for them and they will follow you to hell?

And they have to audacity to talk crap about people who do not want to come to Dominica? What for? To interact with whom? Them? Are you kidding me? I am not worried about them, my concern is for the nxt generation of Dominicans. It pains my heart to see what they will inherit!

can u believe this? this pastor (so called) went to court, swear over the bible that he knows so well, an lied to the ppl saying that the downstairs of his church was never used to store building materials? this is sickening mhen. to make it worst, this dude says the pal rep (in question) has never preached in his church after elections. i’m a frequent user of the main road on sundays, i’m always going to church, an i do pass that area. I HAVE HEARD PEPPER PREACHING ON THE ALTAR MANY TIMES. PEPPER IS D HEAD OF THE CHURCH, HE IS THE PAPA, HE’S VOICE IS ALWAYS HEARD BY THE RUM DRINKERS IN THE BARS ON A SUNDAY MORNING! times change. Bavomet has infiltrated that church. who to blind to c it that’s their problem. To that pastor, i wish u well, your debt will be paid for misleading the ppl of GOD!
