Found guilty of beating up her mother, Fond Cole resident Maudlyn Charles has been ordered to pay a fine of EC $1,000 and $2,500 in compensation.
The first is to be paid by October and the compensation by mid-August.
She has been told by Magistrate Ossie Lewis that failure to meet those payments on time will land her in jail for five months.
The court was told that Charles struck her 88-year-old mother.
In her defence she said that she was provoked because her mother accused her of stealing her money and a packet of cigarettes.
The two live in the same yard at Fond Cole and the defendant told the court that her mother was an alcoholic who came to her home on January 17 (2012) , shoving her with a stick and insulting her.
Charles said she got angry and struck her mother with the stick.
The prosecution presented the medical form of the complainant as evidence.
The accused pleaded guilty to wounding her mother.

I recall a saying from childhood, if children, at any age, hit their parents, when they die their hand will stay up in the air. Whether this is true I have no idea if it is true but since it was said it may be true.
I would never think of hitting my parents. In any case, they would never hit their children with a stick and as adults.
I hope this daughter will ask her mother for forgiveness and make amends since they are also living in close proximity and that the mother forgives her, also that they will live in peace.

Everyone made some good points. It is her mother. I doubt, under any circumstance, if there is anyone in the world who will agree with the daughter. It is shocking what she did to her mother. If I knew the daughter I would reprimand her amicably. No matter what, never hit your mother.
Whatever the fact, a child should not hit her mother. Even though as she stated the mother took a stick at her or shook the stick in her face. If she stole the item(s) from her mother, she should have owned up and said, “I am sorry” and “I will return it.”
Obviously, the mother was upset if she stole from her. Consider her age, a lady in her 80’s. It may not be the first time that they quarrelled. You know, it takes two to tangle. It is pathetic and I cringe at it that the daughter hit her mother and injured her. In God’s eyes, her actions could be unforgiving for she displeased Him by hitting her mother. She will primarily have to ask God forgiveness. The best thing she should have done as I have previously stated was to walk away. She could have killed her mother.
