Mother of two spared jail time after fight

courtThirty-seven-year-old, Nadia Bruno, a mother of two, was spared from being sent to the slammer on Friday but will have until November 2016 to pay EC$1,000.00 in compensation to the court after being involved in a fight with another woman.

Bruno, who is from the community of Colihaut, pleaded guilty to Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm on Maria Helen Andrew, from the same community, in June 2011 at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Facts of the case

Andrew accompanied her husband, Roy Andrew, to the outpatient department of the PMH on the day in question to dress some wounds. While he waited for attention, she went to visit her son at the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU).

She then went to the car park at the PMH to drop some bags in their car but noticed that the vehicle was locked and so returned to meet her husband.

She did not find him but someone pointed him out to her at a distance walking with Bruno.

Andrew approached the two and Bruno said, “long I have been waiting for you.”

A fight ensued.

The two were separated by bystanders but Bruno grabbed Andrew again and threw her to the floor.

The fight continued and the two were separated again.

When Andrew fell, she said she felt and sharp pain to her left shoulder. She eventually went to the doctor who sent her for an X-ray which revealed fracture to the left should.

Mitigating

Bruno lawyer, Peter Alleyne, said while she did not plead guilty at the first available time, she is very remorseful for her actions and wants to apologize and is “disappointed in her actions.”

He told that court that his client had placed herself at the “mercy of the court” and wished the court to consider compensation.

Sentencing

Justice Errol Thomas told Bruno that those with children should set an example.

The aggravating factors, he said, is that the incident happened in full view of the public at the PMH in the presence of Andrew’s husband.

A social inquiry report shows that Bruno has expressed remorse for her actions and people in the community of Colihaut do not think that she is a violent person. It also says that Andrew does not want Bruno to be sent to jail.

She was strongly admonished by Justice Thomas about her behaviour and advised to live a productive life.

Bruno was fined EC$1,000 to be paid in six months. In default, she is to be brought back to court for resentencing.

Legalize polygyny, each woman gets her equal rights, equal time, distribution of wealth equitably = cased closed.

Many men in Dominica have more than one woman and this has been going on for thousands of years, this will never stop.

Why do two women have to lower themselves in this manner? This aggressive female above reveals her insecurities – time to teach our women a different perspective about family and marriage.

So she was loving the lady husband then?

  9. It seems Ms. Bruno was already having a bad day. I expect many of us have these days once in a while.

She saw something that didn’t please her and how she felt at the time resulted in how she interpreted it.
This caused an outburst of violence.

Personally, I find how I begin the day determines how the day goes. As a Christian I know I am to begin the day with God. This means we pause for a quiet time and take a few minutes to read the Word of God and pray.

Justice Thomas showed wisdom by sparing this woman, a mother with children, jail time. He contributed to the well being of a family. I expect Ms. Bruno will do better in the future.

Our prayers are with both women.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

What does she mean, “Long I was waiting for you?” Is she in love with the woman’s husband? Since they are both from the same community, they obviously know each other.
What type of man is that who ignored his wife? He has some wounds? A sick man and he acted in that manner?
She is fortunate to be fined $1,000. Her victim may have problems with her shoulder for the rest of her life.
Those in her community stated she is not a violent person. So what caused her to be violent and to fight with the man’s wife? In view of what she stated, it appeared that she was out to get the woman at any cost.
If she cannot afford to pay then, it will be jail time.
Some people do not respect themselves and by fighting in public for all to see. She did not care. What does fighting with another prove? It only inflicts harm and further enmity.
She must learn to keep the peace. She should also be given a restraining order.
    Control your emotions and temper.

If the accused said to the victim, “its a long time I’ve been waiting for u” this is no indication that she showed any remorse for her actions.

You meet a womsn walking with your husband, you attacking her. So insecure. She should throws her down twice. You should deal with your husband not the woman. Your standard for a married woman is below zero. The girl should be even found guilty.

It is time husband learn to be faithful , if he was, all that would not have happened. Yes, she was wrong but how it started, the root of the problem is ADULTERY, CHEATING , ECT. The both mothers have to be example because the evidence revealed that her son was in the APU unit , so that too says alot.
As soon as you left for the car , your husband disappeared, Where did he go, walking with Bruno.
