UPDATE: Salisbury man questioned and released in connection with his father’s death

Dominica News Online can confirm that the police have released a Salisbury man who was taken in for questioning in connection with the death of his father on New Year’s Day.

DNO earlier reported that the two men had been involved in a dispute in the village of Salisbury on Sunday morning, during which the father was allegedly pushed through a door way causing him to fall to the ground.

The older man reportedly died following the fall. He has been identified as Kenneth Matthew, also known as ‘Last Rope.’ The son has been identified as Kenson Matthew.

DNO has not been able to independently verify this information but it is alleged that the son is mentally unstable.

Dominica News Online will keep following this story and bring you more information as it comes to hand.

greetings, not becAUSE THE MAN WAS TAKEN IN FOR QUESTIONING THAT HE IS GUILTY OF A CRIME. INVESTIGAYIONS MUST BE CARRIED OUT AND IF HE WAS RELEASWED ITS NOT BECAUSE HE IS UNSTABLE IT MAY BE THAT HE DID NOT CAUSE HIS FATHER;S DEATH AS DNO WAS QUICK TO ASSUME. LETS WAIT FOR THE PRO TO TELL THE PIBLIC WHY HE WAS RELEASED, I AM JUST ASSUMING THAT IT MAY BE THAT HE DID NOT CAUSE THE DEATH. ONE CAN BE ARRESTED ON SUSUPICION AND AFTER THE INVESTIGATION SHOWS THAT THE SUSPECT DID NOT COMMIT THE ALLEGED OFFENCE HE MUST BE RELEASED. SO ALL OF YOU WHO WERE QUICK TO SHOUT MURDER IN SALISBURY LET ME SEE WHAT YOUR COMMENTS WILL BE NOW AND DNO NEEDS TO APOLOGISE TO THE PUBLIC ALSO.

Every time a crime is committed my people ask:

“Where is the church in all this?” I would like to ask, what exactly do you expect the church to do? Wave a magic wand and fix things? Go house to house and raise people’s children for them? Foresee every crime that is to take place? It is rather ironic that when “the church” summons the people of Dominica to pray, they attach all types of deprecating labels to those leaders and no one takes heed. But the truth is the people need to put away pride and rebellion and give heed to these calls. God speaks through people and if we want God to work for us we need to work with Him. He cannot do anything for a rebellious people so we must humble ourselves and allow Him to work on our behalf.

Secondly, we tend to point fingers at others when it should be pointing at us. From Genesis and beyond, human beings have always blamed others for their actions. When God came to Adam to mend things Adam said it was the woman who made him do that, refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Likewise, my people point fingers at the government, the church, the parents or anyone else, but the perpetrators. When we teach young people (our children) to take responsibility for their actions and start holding them accountable, then their conscience will be at work.
Too many youths have the mentality that “sewoing” is the norm in Dominica. Their facebook profiles reveal their love for partying with hard liquor or smoking something. These very young people are all tattooed up with pants below their buttocks mimicking the American lifestyle. How sad that this generation is becoming less and less Dominican and more and more American. Working the soil or hard work seems to be a thing of the past – no one wants to get his/her hands dirty but want the best cell phones, name brand clothing/shoes, nice car, big TV and the list goes on. That’s why you see very young GIRLS dating big old married men and the young boys selling drugs and even sleeping with other men (bugger). It is a rebellious generation.
Dominica was a God fearing nation, but even that too is changing as people mirror the styles of the “world powers”. The only one who can help our country is FATHER GOD if only we put away pride and rebellion and humble ourselves before God then He can work on our behalf. Remember, righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach.

      @Waitukubul

I have been off from here for a while, today is my first day since six or eight weeks ago, and this is the first article I am reading.

Just to let you know that I am glad to read my own language from your writing here. You are so right “God speaks through people and if we want Him to work for our Salvation we need to work with Him”–especially through reverend fear.

But that is the problem–Human beings believe that they control everything they do but all they do is make gruesome mistakes. It is so unfair that after we have made our bad mistakes we are always finding someone else to blame.

      HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.

And don’t forget that this year is a leap year too–not to mention all the stuff they have been talking about this year 2012!

If you would only get up, stand up and do something for yourself and your community, the north would be a better place. Stop depending on government, whether Labour, UWP or Freedom to do everything for you. Take a look around you, the government is doing as much as they can in the present economic situation. They have put a lot of systems in place and people need now to take advantage. Stop blaming the government for thing that you have done to yourself or not doing for yourself.

    January 1, 2012

firsy off i wanna extend my deepest sympathy to the immediate families of Kennit( the father). i know the ppl of bawi are indeed in a state of shock and disbelief.

Many things could have cause the “argument’ or whatever it is that caused the death of the father. With time and questioning maybe the truth will be revealed.

The son is not normal and that could also be a reason for that senseless death, having been already at the psych unit for being “mad”..and this is no secret in bawi.MIND U, I AM NOT SUPPORTING WHAT HE DID.

The death penalty to many seems like the best choice the way things are going down in sweet DA, until it reaches home (maybe or bro or someone close to us is sentenced to die). I really cannot say what will work for the youth, drug dealers and all other criminals in DA. talking to some makes no difference, the justice system keeps failing us, our morals and all are being washed away slowly but surely and being our brothers keeper seems to be a thing of long ago.

All i can say is God we need yr divine intervention in our everyday lives, young, old, every single one of us. Help us to be each others keepers once more, take us back to times when quarrels and disputes were dealt with “MEPUIS” and we would fight giving KICKS AND PUNCHES.Deliver us Dear Lord from the shackles of the enemy , free us froem all evil deeds and take full control of our hearts, minds, tongues and bodies. In yr name I claim victory over the devil and i rebuke all plans he may have for me and fellow Dominicans.

    • Z......
      January 1, 2012

First off if anybody believe in God or a higher power they have no business asking for death penalty. You don’t give life and so you don’t take it. thats why Dominica needs a proper prison where life imprisonment would be an option. Hard labour and two meals a day! It have one jay road in DA that need fixing put those prisoners to fix it, make them clean up and be strict with them. Prison isn’t for book reading its for you to feel every ounce of misery you put on society. People recommending death penalty because prisons are like hotels these days with many options. Them prisoners can smoke, they eat, drink, play basketball and I don’t know if they do this in Stockie but watch TV. Take all this crap out and put these people to hard work and build a proper prison where it feels like a prison and not the DAYS INN! Days inn is like no star but to prisoners its like five stars. Stop wishing for death penalty you not GOD and them bible readers doing this are such hypocrites.

      • January 1, 2012

z im i a hypocrite to call your church a whore read revelation chapter 17 and u will hear what it says about the roman catholic church. i think you are a bigger hypocrite than me because im educating the ppl of god you sound like a fan of the whore. can i also ask you a question? if revelation 17 is not refering to the catholic church then what other institution is it refering too? do u really believe in the pope?is he really our father?which church worship idols? which church reject the commandment of god so they may keep their tradition.which church uses the rosary for religious chant which jesus condemns as vain repitition prayers? the catholic church.which church uses the bent crosss the cc.who uses the cross upside down in the vatican the pope. the head of this demonic church.get out of her my ppl which church is the bible refering to it is unmistakable the roman catholic church. which organisation calls herself the mother of the churches the catholic church. i can give u quotation after quotation.stop bein a hypocrite and get out of her before its to late

        January 3, 2012

        @Idiot of the south!

A person like you who’s so godly, such a believer to think you have a higher standing because you read the bible backwards is beyond me. It so easy for the word “whore” to roll of your dirty tongue. Godly people don’t act like you. I’m quite comfortable being in the Catholic Church. Baptized, First Communion and Confirmed there. I will be married to the love of my life in there to. It’s so easy to say whore or call another religion out of its name. The pope isn’t god and never claimed he was. In the same bible you reading there it talks about the moses, peters, the disciples all reading, working alongside the most high. I believe this is the essence of the Pope, priests and nuns.

Lastly, for your ignorant self, the Catholic Church is an amazing religious institution where hypocrits like you send your kids to learn everyday though you supposedly hate the church and thinks its a whore. The Catholic Church have hundreds of charities, priests and nuns living on next to nothing to serve masses of people, they run schools, scholarships, hospitals, clinics, distress centers, homeless shelters, food banks etc thus serving millions of people each year. There’s not one other religious group in this world that serve people in numbers the way the Catholic Church does on such a grand scale. It has its faults but like everything else the good far out ways the bad and so when I’m not back sliding I will return to this church anytime and so will my family.

Now off with you. Go back to your hole and let me have a descent discussion with educated people. When you’re able to read, write and comprehend then you may speak to me. Alot of people disagree on DNO about many issues but if is one thing I think most might agree on is you staying off the DNO. But, alas, we’re subjected to your deficiencies everytime you post.

what u want the church to do? eh. The church cannot stop crime. we all need to examine our conscience.

      • cry
        January 1, 2012

What does the church have to do with this? Could the church have gone to Salisbury and prevent the death?

I swear some people say the dumbest things sometimes.

Can’t we see what is happening? The devil is at work.. Yes he is! You could have been reading about me this day… wife killed by husband… When people get angry they are not their normal selves, its like a spirit takes over you and causes you to do things that you never could imagine. This is what the devil wants… bro against bro, husband against wife, mother against children. he wants to break up the family. And unless and until we decide to really serve the living God we will not be free. And by serving God i mean really serving him… not having a form of godliness and denying the power of God…. Turn to Jesus… it’s all that matters.

      • ??????????????
        January 1, 2012

Isn’t the churches asking the people to stop all this hatred and other “devilish” acts and repent and turn to serve the one and true living God. What do you expect them to do? Aren’t the men calling on the populace to repent and turn away from their wicked ways? Aren’t the men of God asking us to pray for one another: to love one another and I can go on and on and on. Stop blaming and look at ourselves and join in the save the world crusade by loving and changing our wicked ways, repent and pray and also exhort to the young people to turn to God!

lets not wait for anyone to tell us repent when we know we must. those who dont know are the ones that should wait to here it.

  53. January 1, 2012

very sad indeed. if this is real story deepest sympathy to the immediate family. for god never gives us more than we can bear.ive said it and ill say it again we need some deterrent againts this so caall crime.the death penalty is one in the right direction. if people know that there is a punishment there for when they kill many problems would go away some people will actually walk away from the trouble because they know the death penalty is real. once again im appealing to the government of the day to reinstate the death penalty lets take back this country from the thugs that roam the street. the so call bad men.stiffer penalty towards crime lets show no mercy towards them. bring back the cat o nine.more powers to the police.more serious magistrate to many times our local magistrate penalize the small marijuana smokers for a joint and murderers get less of a punishment when is this shit gonna stop.tiyanni was a serious magistrate. we need more tiyannis. when is this government goin to listen to the cries of the ppl in this country? doesnt crime affect we all?why isnt the death penalty comin on stream? how many more death before it comes on stream? i thin both government and opposition are playin to much politics all for the sake of power. its time we become a unit in dominica for the very things that affect us opposition and government iron out the differences lets take back dominica.

    • Peeping Tom
      January 1, 2012

wells: “we need more tiyannis.” If you believe that an individual or an entity (government OR church OR family) can prevent or control crime, i have a million Santa Clauses to sell to you. They are the real deal…going cheap at $1.00 for each.

      • January 1, 2012

peping tom i think u need to peep a little more because i said more tiyannis.’ and not tiyanni more serious magistrate and non joker magistrate,we know one man cant do it.i didnt said tiyanni alone can do it but it u have at lease five like him im sure at lease the crime rate will drop significantly in this country along with the death penalty. i hope u understand this one my brother ok happy new year to u as well and lets look out for each other one love

DNO… I know y’all try to bring us the news fast and first thing. But it’s the first day in the year,I think some discretion to have this story not placed today would have been good.Aa lot of people are gonna say oh it’s news that’s what u in business to report but my friend considering the amount of negative people are gonna be bring out in terms of the start of the year feeling it’s actual negative energy. This site needs to be conscience of the facts that negative thoughts begets negative actions, the law of attractions my friend. At least consider it when reporting certain things from time to time, otherwise you’re no better than all the rest of the media rubbish companies.

ADMIN: We, at DNO, are at a total loss as to what your point is. We are as saddened as anybody else by this occurrence. However, we did not create the news, my friend, we are simply reporting it and whether we report it today, the day after or a month from today (by which time it would not be news anyway!), does not change the fact that it HAPPENED and it happened on New Year’s day. Perhaps our concern should be focused not so much on the negative comments that are generated by such negative acts but on what we should be doing as a society to significantly reduce, if not eliminate altogether, the prevalence of such behaviour.

anonymous you are so correct to many satanist. lodge freemason.illumaniti they are the pillar of the church they control this country.our finances. the places we buy the magistrates they all are swearing allegiance to the devil the fake institutions like the catholic church . the bible says come out of her. do not worship any graven images or any likeness exodus 20 verse 4 to many ppl worship idol in this country and not god.thou shall not bow down thyself to them exodus 20 verse 5 stop calling those priest father. for one is your father which is in heaven matthew 23 verse 9 stop doin religious chant with the rosary which god condemn as vain repitition prayer in matthew 6verse 7 the people draw near to me with their mouth n honour me with their lips but their hearts is far from me. and in vain the worship me teaching as doctrines the commandment of men stop goin to the so call priest they cant forgive sins. jesus is th only mediator 1 timothy 2 verse 5 to many ppl pray to the virgin mary and not jesus himself she have to face her judgement just like us.all those things are tying our country down to many worshipping the false god and not our saviour. they need to get this big white cross down from morne bruce al this tying down the city.to many witches.to many pretenders. the …..church and its leaders are misleading the ppl of this land. they are arrayed in purple and scarlet. decked with gold and precious stones and pearls havin a golden cup in her hand full of abomination an filthiness of her fornication……..revelation chapter 17

        January 1, 2012

Wells, why are you being so quick to condemn the Catholic church? What has the church got to do with anything bad which goes on the country? We all need to pray, the world is falling apart and all you can come up with are negative commenrts. Instead of spreading all this animousity against those whom you think might be doing wrong, invite them for a little prayer session. 5 minutes of acknowledging God is better than condemning others. Spread the love …will make the world a better place

No, not “pray for the world,” but do something to change our world – as in something physical.

Only by doing good deeds, such as being civil and acting humane to each other, teaching our children how to be respectful, teaching the traditional values of right and wrong, cease from desecrating our living spaces with wanton littering, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, caring for the elderly and so on.

A few manifestations of actual good works that will lead us to a better place in this world.

      January 1, 2012

you spoke about appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure but you need to work on your use of punctuation. When quoting someone elses words we use quotation marks not asterisks. Condolences to the family…..

    • Z......
      January 1, 2012

You’re absolutely correct but you forget those capital letters at the beginning of your sentences, question mark after you’ve asked a question and also appropriate quotation marks “” to show reference not asterix.

So if I were to correct your comment it would be:

May I please ask what’s wrong with the appropriate use of vocabulary and sentence structure in the above article?

“Excuse me?”-That’s not a question. I maybe wrong but I’ve only noticed exclamation marks, comma and a full stop behind “excuse me”. Capitalization at sentence #2- plus you add (‘s) to What’s.

So you see, we all make mistakes.

I am happy that DNO made the correction. I believe that it is my right to make constructive criticisms since this s the site that I visit regularly for all news. To those who felt it manadatory to criticise my expression KUDOS to you but if at a post grad level I don’t know how to write then well well. There is a difference between the written comments and the actual report of a story. A report must be in standardised English or any other language. However the comments may be colloquially written etc. This is in the best interest of DNO who now has a new competitor on the market. I would want to see DNO stay on top . KUDOS DNO for making news availble to us locally, regionally and internationally over the years. Thank you.

There are two possible situations here:

    1) It could be involuntary manslaughter or something like that, rather than an actual murder, and I say that because time and time again have people been in heated arguments and then one ends up killed because things got out of hand, but that doesn’t actually mean the son PLANNED to kill his dad.

    2) But again, these are just initial reports and details are sketchy so it could be that it was involuntary manslaughter UNLESS the son went back later and saw his father standing there on the veranda and made a POINT to push him off, THEN it’s murder.

Either way, it’s a TERRIBLE way to start off the new year!!!!
