Mwanga’s murder a crime of “special nature” – National Security Minister

Small

Minister of National Security Charles Savarin says the murder of Omara Small also known as Mwanga Freeman, is a crime of a “special nature”.

He says police are still investigating but has so far been unable to apprehend a suspect.

“That is a type of shooting where apparently someone was laying wait for someone and shot him dead,” Savarin said, on the DBS radio program Talking Point, this morning.

“If you have information, as insignificant or small as you might think it may be, you need to get it to the police so we could get this matter resolved,” PM Skerrit said on the same program.

The minister said the other murders seem to be matters of disputes gone wrong.

The ministers and acting Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette are guests on the radio programme to address the crime situation. (DNO will publish more stories from the radio programme).

Mwanga Freeman was shot dead on High Street Roseau on the evening of Wednesday September 15. The 32-year-old, who was shot at least five times in the head and chest, was laid to rest last Friday. His killer(s) remain at large.

There have been five killings since and police have gained significant headway in all of these.

@fire: LOL you’re funny man, you watch too much T.V, must think Dominica is America or something. How did he know they’re no Security, man there’s no security ANYWHERE in Dominica after working hours. Put out a reward? you really think people going to go out of they’re way to aid justice to a known killer and drug dealer? Unless the person left the gun at the crime scene there’s no way they’re going to know what gone was used. I dont know if you live in Dominica man, but you’re surely watching too much T.V get real.

Yes it was a matter of Organised Crime, how often does something like that happen in public in Dominica? The police were caught with they’re pants down, or as far as rumours go, they could have done it undercover themselves.

Domincans so negative, I did not know mwanga personally but his sister and I are Friends and I know he wasn’t raised in the life that he died by. Take his death as an example, young men , live the drugs selling alone, I know you all are crying that DA hard, but selling drugs is not the answer, the people around you always end up hurt, His sister is aching and so is his mom. Look at the boy from estate, his mom is the middle of his scandle right now, the ones around you guys always end up hurt ,so live that life alone. tess my love goes out to you.

We are perfectly aware this investigation will get nowhere and we have accepted that, Dominican people have shown their true nature and i see nothing but empty words from the majority of the populace, You Rejoiced in his death based on hear say but many never knew him, You spouted Nonsense as fact even if the Courts did not see it fit to inform the populace that he was clear of his crimes, We enjoy the gossip but not so much the facts, i will never call him a perfect man but he meant alot to our family as a Father,Brother,Cousin and Son and i’m sorry that most of the people who would bad mouth him in death never really knew him past what they heard on the streets

What is the role and function of the Minister of National security? Really dont know and the writer would want to get rid of his Ignorance. Some people blame the PM- but its the national security minister one would like to hear come up with a special Anti- Crime Tasks Force……… Mr Minister be advised that it is better to be proactive than being reactive… Put a master plan together to fight crime — the speeeches are great but right now action is desperately needed. Do something Charlo – Charlo- for Roseau! next thing Charlo can do is to present his criming fighting master plan to Dominican! Charlo – please dont go to bed unless you can come up with the Task force and the roght people – before Independence day en> Let Dominicans knwo that You as National security Minister is a serious Man and U wont take on prisone. Launch ya Master plan Charlo… You wana call the the crime fighting Plan: Anaconda or Operation clean Up Dominica or Project No tolerance? Go for it we waiting to see what you have in store for the people : Uncle Charlo. Shakle them up charlo : Fix the na(t) (sh) ion as u pronounce ya words! Go brave Charlo

On another note: Please look for a foreign Police commissioner when the time for the one who is acting is up. A foreign Police Com will straighten the police force and put programs in place to dea with crime!! Try a foreigner if he does performs well goood to go – but if there is lil or no performance please send him packing!

@Blacks; ppl are not condoning murder in DA.however, someone like him that killed already and had a questionable character ppl wont feel sorry for him.
Think about having a son or daughter who got addicted to drugs. they are so addicted that they got to steal to buy the drugs. think about that BLACKS. the drug Kartels are killing the young generation slowly. So when their day come thats just it.

Life has many meanings and we should not rejoyce when these things happen to people we dis like, he was loved by many as he was hatted by many. think before we speak we must remember that we can also be placed in a situation like this.don’t give the person who did this praise but insteand let work together to hold who is responsible for this killings. life was given to us and it’s not our right to take it form someone.

@Master Bait: Oh sure i did not mistake any ones intentions. fair he may have done his do and his day may have come too. but when we preach how happy we are that he is dead and make comments that praised the murder then what are we actaully saying. huh? what we saying? it is in fact impossible for us to want muanga murderer to be at large yet we cry about the other murders in our place. i say find all the murders and all must be convicted before the law. i am not in agreement with anyone taking anyone life despite hoe bad that person may be. God is ruler over everthing. Probably like you said he did certain things but be carful what we say with our tongues. How can i give praise to a murderer for killing someone? i mean this is just too ridiculous and we know it.

  28. Master Bait
    October 4, 2010

@DECEMBER 18 TH.: I think that you have misunderstood the intentions of Dominicans here my friend. I dare say that there are very few Dominicans who condone murder even if it is to someone like Mwanga. However you can’t really expect Dominicans to express pity over the death of another murderer. He obviously was someone who was of questionable character and who from all reports have played a major part in violence in Dominica.

    October 4, 2010

So many people die, and is Mwanga especially they find to come and talk about? Stupes! If all you want to dislike the comment go ahead, but that is MY opinion. They should have come and talk about people who serving two and five years for murder then are let out the prison to become big tappa tap. They should talk about all the alleged murderers who are out on bail, and the justice system workers who are hell bent on getting rid of the ONE judge who is trying to execute justice. Then I might listen to Charles Savarin and Carette! Election is a couple years away, but Im sure that my vote will not be by the shoe is this crime spree is not addressed and curbed!

you know what amazes me is dominicnas were rojoicing when munaga died. few person mentioned that they should fing the murderer. instead comments like they would shake the criminal big toe was made. imagine now everybody crying because of the other murders questioning what is wrong with our country. God does not sleep. if we are prepared to accpet muaga murderer then be prepeared to accpet all. be careful what we ask for when someone whom we dont like dies. murder is murder and the criminals must be punished by the law. since after muanag murder its like a number of murders follow. hope domincans did not call that upon themselves, becuz there was just too much rejoicing when he died. and ppl wre literally in agrrement with the murderer.watch our mouths. pray earnestly.
