National Security minister concerned about human trafficking

National Security minister, Charles Savarin

Minister for National Security Charles Savarin says he is concerned about the issue of human trafficking on the island.

According to him,  the governments of  Dominica’s sister islands are also very concerned.

“It is a very serious matter. It is a matter that can affect the relations between yourself and your neighbors. We have a situation where persons come to Dominica through the normal ports of entry and leave illegally. There are even Dominicans who provide passage out of Dominica to the neighboring countries. The government of France is very concerned and has indicated that to us. There is the fact that there were reports of persons falling or being thrown overboard and these are not matters that you would wish to see occurring in your country,” Savarin told an interview with the media recently.

According to him, illegal traffic opens the door for everything including drug trafficking and criminal activities.

“..It is something that you shut down because that opens the door for all kinds of activities that is against the wellbeing of the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, Savarin said government is strengthening the police force in an effort to reduce the problem.

THOUGH MR SAVARIN MAY HAVE USE THE TERM “HUMAN TRAFICKING” IN THE WRONG CONTEXT, I BEG TO CONCUR WITH HIM. WE SIT THERE AND WATCH THOSE HAITIANS COME HERE AND MAKE MONEY IN THAT BUSINESS, IT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN A SENSE, WHEN EACH HAITIAN DAT COME HERE COMES WITH ONE OR TWO PASSPORT IN HIS SUITCASE AND MONEY , I MEAN LARGE SUMS OF MONEY TO MAKE VISA FOR OTHERS ON THE OTHER SIDE; THEY COME HERE AS STRANGERS BUT BEFORE THEY HAVE ONE WEEK HERE THEY ALREADY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION FOR VISA FOR PERSONS IN HAITI; ONE IS LEFT TO WONDER WHATS GOING ON; MY BEST BET, IS DAT MY SAVARIN SHOULD CURB OR AT LEAST FOR A WHILE STOP THE GRANTING OF HAITIAN VISAS AT LEAST FOR A WHILE AND MONITOR OUR SEAPORTS TO SEE HOW THEY COMING IN; RIGHT NOW THERE ARE 23 HAITIAN CHILDREN IN VIEILLE CASE SINCE THE EARTHQUAKE, HOW DID THEY ENTER HERE? PERSONS ARE CALLING PEOPLE IN PORTSMOUTH ASKING THEM TO TAKE IN THOSE CHILDREN; I HAVNT HEARD THE AUTHORITIES SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT, OR IS IT THAT THEY DONT K NOW WHAT IS GOING ON?

To FAIRPLAY , u trying to make saverin look like he don’t know what he saying. Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person.I support saverin on that ,this thing has been happening a long time ago and nothing much has been done.It is time that persons in authority take measures to help correct that problems cause it is very dangerous,
And we as Dominicans should be part of it,work together with the police cause sometimes we know it happening and we stay with our mouth shut.

It is due time that the Government set up a Coast Guard Base at Portsmouth. This will not eleminate the traficing at once but it will be a major help in combating the issue.

TO STEVE U ARE SURLEY A FOOL IF U DONT REALISE THAT HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS A WORLD WIDE PROBLEM AND THAT INCLUDES DOMINICA. AND IF WE WANT WE AS DOMINICANS CAN REMAIN AS FOOLS BELIVING THAT ITS NOT AFFECTING US BUT IT IS . WE WILL BE THE ONES PAYING FOR IT . I SUPORT MR SAVARIN AND DO HOPE THAT THE GOV WILL DO EVERTHING TO STOP THAT PRACTIS. FIRST ANY PERSON FOUND CARRING THESE PERSONS SHOULD HAVE THEIR BOAT TAKEN FOR GOOD AND THE CPTAIN AND CREW SHOULD GET NO LESS THAN 40YRS BEHIND BARS .ALSO WE KNOW WELL THAT THESE PERSONS FROM HAITI AND DOMINICAN REP COME TO DA TO BE TRANSPORTED TO GWADA OR SM AND ANTIGUA, SO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO ENTER DA. ALSO THE PERSONS WHO ACCOMODATE THEM SHOULD GET TIME BEHIND BARS IF WHEN THEIR STAY IN DA IS UP U CANT FIND THEM, LET THE ACCOMODATORS GET A LITTLE 10 TO 20YRS AND I GARANTY U U WILL START TO SEE HOW MUCH HUMAN TRAFICKING PROBLEM WE WILL HAVE IN DA

Charlo……… what about Melville hall airport. Since they take u out there, we not hearing nothing man.
Charlo……..Since u from Portsmouth i think u should convince your govrnment and maybe the chinese Government to start the westcoast road from Possee. since we already have michael douglas boulevard recently joined with Ross boulevard with a nice piece of road, they can just continue the highway starting from the ending of ross boulevard. And by the time we reach mahaut and roseau we would have enough time to thing of what we going do . man, mr. Savarin our transport suffering. We need a good road from possee to roseau now……..not another brigde in roseau rite now.

Mr. Savarin need to clean his Labour house, we cannot tackle this problem with a corrupt administration running the country. Once he has done the house cleaning we can start addressing our many crime problems.

Charles ministry should be given to a junior minister. It appears he doesnt have anything to talk about since Dominica’s national Security is not threatened. He likes the spot light. Human trafficking is an issue but not to Dominica.

Charles Savarin if you want to address the issue of human trafficing well my brother you have to first get to the core/origin of it. So check ur ministers the first one to check is ..
