UPDATE: PM Skerrit, National Security Minister Savarin and Acting Police Chief to address crime issue on DBS radio programme

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, National Security Minister Charles Savarin and Acting Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette will be on DBS radio’s Talking Point programme this morning from 9:00 to address the issue of rising crime across the island.

Savarin joined the prime minister and acting police commissioner as guests on the programme.

Just last evening members of the religious community converged on Independence Street in Roseau for a National Prayer Rally. This was broadcast live on Kairi FM and DBS radio.

The effort came in response to a call from acting Prime Minister Reginald Austrie, who announced on Friday that cabinet would meet this week to address the matter of stiffer legislation, particularly on gun related crimes, as part of efforts to break stem of the rising crime rate.

Six people have been murdered in two weeks, and 10 in total so far this year.

Crime seems to be a plague affecting Dominica a lot these days. It is very rampant around the whole caribbean and the blame should not left solely on the government. This is because we as individuals have a great part to play we have to pull our own weight. We must be aware of our own surroundings, be our neighbours keepers, try our best to raise our children in the right way and also as adults we must be great examples to our selves others and our children. We must be more in and wrapped our selves around the Lord. More jobs should be provided for young people and the communities on a hole, You know what happens to idle hands.

@ Rolle …But some of his footstools, are still saying that thePM has nothing to do with what is happening in the country now i.e.the escalating crime rate…Honestly i don’t believe that neither the Skerrit nor Savarin are credible and honest enough to address crime issues,,,,,

Too late PM. You should have made an address to the nation over a week ago. PM you would not know the first thing about being a leader. Now that so many others have spoken on the subject, you are so ashamed that you finally want to say something? You should have led and let the others follow, but you are now following where others have led. Shame, Shame, shame on you.

@ Sad, thank you so much for the correction! You are absolutely right.. But true I did not hear the utterings, was white COLLAR crime addressed? Did the law enforcement people on the radio say when they are going to start investigating all the pending white collar CRIMES in Dominica? People this is a farse, these scrundrels know how is pull Dominicans stings.. This man should be in hiding in any other country he would be, he is the audacity to be on the people’s radio station talking about CRIME?? Ah Magweau sa? This man is a dangerously delusssional man, but then again he has gotten away with so much in Dominica, he probably is right. He most likely will get away with his CRIMES again..

Hey you hypocrites trying to put the blame on the government for recent upsurge in crime. Come on!!. If that is the case then every government in the Caribbean and I dare say the world should be held responsible, since there is a regional and global crime surge, which is something that governments can do little about. The fact is we as individuals need to take our own responsibilities to ensure that we ALL play a part in stemming out crime.

Many who comment here are just biased individuals to look to pounce on each and every issue to lay blame on the govwernment. This government has done more to strenghten law enforcement than ANY government in the recent past and THAT IS A FACT!! From the purchase of vehicles to increase in numbers of the police force and training of officers to upgrading police stations. In addition the government has gone in to recently strenghten the laws in the parliament against gun possession which MANY in the opposition circles condemned instead of providing critical support.

The opposition flagrant and blatant disrespect and disregard for the institution of the parliament and respecting the WILL of the majority (even after the courts and international observers have given their complete endorsement) is to my mind more an element of instigating disrespect for the laws of the land than any of the many yet unproven allegations being labelled at the government.

So let us ALL come together to help stop this rising scourge on our dear country’s image, instead of playing political football with each and every issue while our lovely Dominica keeps on bleeding from all this fighting and negativity.

Wow! Interesting! Murder and burglary is not the only crime in Dominica, hope you Mr. PM will address the issue of White color crime, money laundering, drug trafficking, and all the other CRIMES that occur from the TOP!! We are looking forward to it!

Crime is contagious….if the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for the law.” Justice Louis Brandeis

No wonder crime is so rampant in Dominica!!!
