Police and customs officers were Friday lunchtime carrying out search operations at two Chinese-owned Lucky Centre stores in the capital, Roseau.
Customs officials have confirmed to DNO that they are in search of false documents from the owners of the store.
They are also in search of a female Chinese who is alleged to be part of the operations.
They have now extended their search to a Canefield warehouse.
DNO also understands that one of the stores, the one on Independence Street was closed earlier, with officers inside the building conducting their search operations at the time.
Another nearby store on Great Marlborough Street, which remained opened, was also searched.
DNO is seeking more information on this matter.
Those who forget about history is bound to repeat it. These Chinese parasites does not have Dominica and Dominicans best interest in mind or heart. Beware my D/CA these voltures are circling for the kill.

I must firmly say that I love my country and its people. If I ever win the lottery I will definitely invest in the education and health in this country. My point is, if there were more ambitious citizens in Dominica, foreigners would not get the chance to take over. The Chinese are very hard working people and they saw the potential in Dominica unlike the citizens.
I recently visited Dominica and bought some windows from them. They were very efficient in conducting their work on time and the product that they deliver was very satisfactory. That is business! Whenever I come back to DA, I will do business with them again because I was quite satisfied.

I am a Chinese.I have been living in Dominica for 6 years In the past several years, the interaction between China and Dominica is more and more dynamic, while the Chinese business communities and other foreign investors in Dominica still find it difficult to be recognized by local society, even though we have tried our best. There are constant criticisms, doubt or even fear over us.
There has been hot debate over the price and the quality over Chinese goods. So I’d like to take this opportunity to make some clarification. On one hand, the price of the goods is basically determined by the input of labor. As a nation of 1.3 billion people, China’s biggest competitive advantage of is its low cost of labor. At present, the average hour-salary of Chinese worker is 1 US $, that is, 2.7 EC $, much lower than that of the majority of the countries in the world, including Dominica. On the other hand, China has more than 30 years of experience in those labor-intensive industries after embarking on the Reform and Opening-up Policy in 1978, the same year Dominica acquired independence. In conclusion, the low-income and experienced Chinese labors manufacture low-price and high-quality products.Just imagine, what if Chinese goods disappear in local market? The price of daily necessities will be soaring, and the burden of life will get heavier.
I believe, business itself is mutually beneficial. And I hope friendly Dominicans could embrace foreign friends with a more open and inclusive bosom. Because just like you, we love Dominica, too.

I was in DA for Christmas and bought someething at a Chinese store, I handed my money over and was given my change without a receipt. I asked the chinese lady for my receipt, she said, “You want a receipt?”, I said yes, she then proceeded to write a receipt from a receipt book next she had close to her. I looked at the receipt, it had no business name, no signature, no breakdown of the cost of what I had purchased. I shook my head and walked out of the store. I have done forensic auditing so I am very much aware that the receiptshould have a registration # for the VAT collection and also the amount f VAT collected, because that amount of money has to paid back to the government. I had every intention to bring this troubling practice to the attention of the new DAIC pres. I hope someone looks into this. The treasury is being ripped off. We have to be vigilant, I wish the customs officers good luck, your job is not easy, but as long as you are doing your jobs with transparency and fairness you should be alright.

I am sure some of you out there doing this very practice will get pissed off at this recommendation, but its all business…
I recommend a task force in place to ensure that consumers and vendors are protected by:
1. Enforcing proper licensing of vendors – anyone or company selling any form or merchandise MUST be licensed and registered to do so. No one should just be able to open up a suitcase in the back of their van within feet of a tax paying/rent paying/vat paying/duty paying/freight paying legit business place and start undercutting my sales. The reason I say this, many people get barrels of goods, freight paid, sent to them, they lie and cheat out of paying duties and the next day they have the merchandise on the street, earning income that is NOT taxed and they are definitely not paying VAT when they may just be qualified to do so.
2. They must be able to present to authorities at any time, documentation showing source of goods i.e. invoices, shipping slips, (either bought locally or imported) and should have supporting customs/taxes documentation for the merchandise as well.
3. They should also be able to provide an inventory and summary of sales/revenue upon request/inspection.
If none of this is in order, the goods get seized until they can get it in order.
I’d be pleased to undertake the design, set up and implementation of such a task force.

i come all way from china to open shop and sell good things for people here. i want to ask Dominicans why u no like us? we struggle hard and have to save a lot of money to leave our country because there is so much competition there. we try our best to sell things that we know people need and want for cheaper price but some people no like us. they want call us ching chong and all sort names and say we eat dog and cat. they want steal from our shop but when we try stop them they want fight us. Chinese do plenty for this country and for Caribbean. be build stadium we build road and all we ask is for respect. we like Dominica and we no break laws we respect constitution but police come and harass us today.

After AI visited DA last year and saw how many CHINESE store owners are there, I commented that Dominican’s need to watch out. I got alot of thumbs down, but I work with authorities in North American, and I’ll tell you most of them own stores to hide what they are really doing. So many times I have known of massive raids in there strores because they use it as a cover-up for selling and traficking drugs. Dominican authority,and Government is someone what still naive and allows puts up with such behaviors. I was so shocked to see so many addicts on our streets, and believe me, if they do crack down and make regular sweeps, we aregoing to become just like parts of north American, and its not hard to do seeing that our Island is so small. Again, i work in the system and I know how they operate,i’ve seen how brutal, and violent they can be like chopping up being and hiding their bodies in cement and dumping them in the lakes.
