Police arrest man in Roseau Market

Police during the operation

There was high drama at the Roseau Market on Friday afternoon when the Drug Squad swooped down on the facility and arrested a man.

A large crowd gathered as the man, who was selling at the market, was taken into custody and his vehicle seized.

It is reported that marijuana was found on the man but the amount is unclear.

Dominica News Online understands the operation was the result of a tip off.

DNO is following the story and will publish information as it becomes available.

stupid any substance what affects you mentally physically or emotionally is a drug. rum is a drug..its just that there is illegal drugs and legal drugs. marijuana is destroying school children open you closed blind eyes.

      • Ganja Farmer
        May 7, 2012

IF I drink too much semekota or peppermint tea, it may affect my mental and physical state. Should they be illegal too?

How about water? It is life but what does too much cause? Man free up the herb with your story about it destroying our school children. Herb has been here from generation to generation so your argument is baselesss. School children destroying themselves.

I am at university and many of my collegues and myself smoke regularyly and it not destroying our mind but helps us enhance many benifical studies for the betterment of mindkind.

Your eyes are shut tight when you drinking your alcohol and you want to blame a natural plant ( that has no additional synthetic process on it) for the destruction of our school children……pure hypocrasy.

Free up d Herb(man). Many parts of Ocho Rio in Jamaica, you can find bags of herb on most stalls at the local market. This is the place where all medicial and seasonal herbs are sold, why should we be selective on some and not on all?

Waste of our resources I say.

“There was high drama”-“an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances” How does the word fit in with the word DRAMA??

the Drug Squad swooped down on the facility -REALLY????? WOW

This might help you, with the incorrect use of the word.

    faculty |ˈfakəltē|
    noun ( pl. -ties)
1 an inherent mental or physical power : her critical faculties.
    • an aptitude or talent for doing something : the author’s faculty for philosophical analysis.
2 the teaching staff of a university or college, or of one of its departments or divisions, viewed as a body : there were then no tenured women on the faculty | the English faculty.
    • a group of university departments concerned with a major division of knowledge : the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
    • dated the members of a particular profession, esp. medicine, considered collectively.
3 a license or authorization, esp. from a church authority.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French faculte, from Latin facultas, from facilis ‘easy,’ from facere ‘make, do.’

ADMIN: And your point? Except seeking attention.

      May 5, 2012

I dont get it! DNO used the word ‘FACILITY’, your definition is of ‘FACULTY’, two completely different words…….sure you’re not seeing double?

      • May 5, 2012

most likely the article was edited after the post so the mistake is no longer there :?: Looks to be correct but was not at the time What wrote the comment.

Actually – they should also give posters the ability to delete comments.

        just a thought

    • May 5, 2012

      @ What

I am sure that the more hasty we are to exalt ourselves the more we will have to humble ourselves–like saying “I made a mistake”

The reason that is because I am reading for the news article that: the Drug squad swoop down on the facility–meaning the area of the Market Place–could it be posible that you read the word FACILITY

      • May 5, 2012

This comment went off before I was finished–I wish there was way we cound edit or remove what we write when there are mistakes–or that situation in my case above.

Anyway I was asking the person identified as “What” if it was possible that he/she read the word “FACILITY” to mistake it for “FACULTY”, because I do not see the word faculty in the news article above.

Also “Drama” is an “activity” or “performance” which can be filled with “exitement” no matter if it is in “fictuous acting” or in “reallity”–the news article reported a drama in reality.

Our children and youths need to “learn” from us, not to be further confused; so let us be careful.

      lol

    • May 5, 2012

      @ WHAT

Prior to making quick judgments in regards to the improper use of the English language, one must keep the following in mind; due to the fact that the English language is so widely used and shows its ugly face on just about every continent and crevice of this beautiful world, regional and cultural variations can apply which may/can alter the literal meaning of words. As a result thereof, it is at times necessary to look at the entire package (audience being targeted, purpose and type of publication, should there be a fun aspect and above all, to be tolerant in a Multicultural society.

ARROGANCE is considered to be a vice and not a virtue.

When I am in Liverpool, people often talk and write about “me mother” and it London it is “my mother” and we do not want to talk about Wales..lol. Try comparing an Australian publication with one from New York City and tell me how many words you find out of context – not that it was above. Those who insist on using “me mother” are just as educated as the “my mother” crowd however the choice of words used and the manner in which sentences are structured varies based on region and culture. While we must use Oxford English when in a Professional Environment is not a necessity to do so when writing social blogs or non-professional publications.

Should you be aware of the fact that the Queen of England reads this blog then kindly let us know as I believe she is one of the few who may not be allowed to speak dialect; However, due to her high level of education, I am quite sure she would be able to understand the sentence as she knows the Caribbean is very far away from mainland Great Britain and further she is aware of Caribbean temperament… High Drama.. our writing is just as colorful as our culture :) .

While I do find on and off some grammatical errors in pieces posted on this blog, I find your post to be out of touch. High Drama is as West Indian as “Drop Dead Gorgeous” is to London? This does not make sense either but you will find it used every month in Elle and Vogue magazine. Actually, to correct the “High Drama”, being a Dominican from the South, I would probable included wá papa.

But then again, I call on all Dominicans to stand up, follow the advise of Rosie Douglas and free Dominica from the English language. We need to revert back to using the French language which is much dearer to our harts and is the rightful – God Given- language of Dominica. Why do we speak this English jibbrisch anyway when French/Creole is so much more beautiful?

Being a woman from Petite Savanne (where English is reserved for use in Roseau), I just do not like this language as it was forced upon me at the tender age of 5 with a teacher’s Bay leaf whip cracking down on my back because he actually believed we were British (bearing in mind our roads and hospitals were built by the French as Elizabeth never had money). Back in those days, children were bitten quite brutally in the early school classes to learn “the Queens English” which left in me nothing but hate and indifference for this language.

BTW – I did leave some errors to be corrected by those of you who find this to be necessary.

      • Malatete
        May 5, 2012

The word is “gibberish”, educated lady.I too speak dialect at home, since I was born with it, feel comfortable with it and nurture it. However, this no excuse for not using understandable and grammatically correct English (…or
French)when we go public. If not, we may as well abolish teacher, class and dictionary.

Chubby be careful and stay safe cause we are looking forward to seeing you perform in the big apple may 26,2012. As for the other situation at the market I will hold on till the facts comes out, but I have one piece of advise for members of our police Force especially those involved in such operations according to my observations as provided by the angle of the photographer. For those quick to jump with their thumps down, base on the angle provided. My advise to the seemingly relax stance of one of the officers I could not tell if its Man or Woman but it appears while the situation was going down I observed all the officers in the picture was looking in the same direction it did not appear cover was being given in the opposite direction, in order to be at the ready in case there was another threat coming from behind or another directions while the operation was taking place. hope I am wrong, but I do not want my fellow Brothers and sisters slacking up and causing them left open to another possible attack. With operations like this, one has to show that they mean business and be professional and alert at all times. No hard feelings cause I used to carry out such operations on a daily basis for over twenty years and would not stand for slackness. Subject to correction. From a true son of the soil and still believe in the safety of our officers. Once a cop always a cop!

Who gives a rat ass if it was a sell out or a sell in”and all that foolishness. Drugs are illegal in Dominica and no matter who is dealing it should be dealt with by the full extent of our laws, no exceptions!
