Police comments on drug trade in Dominica

Inspector Joseph Williams of the Police Drug Squad said the illegal drug trade is continuing to affect Dominica.

He said Dominica’s proximity to Martinique and Guadeloupe makes it convenient for drug transshipment and that there is a high demand for drugs in North America and Europe, while the producers are in South America and the Caribbean is situated in the center.

“So therefore the Caribbean naturally becomes a transshipment point for the lucrative markets for North America and Europe. Dominica being located in the center makes us very convenient for transshipment. The illegal drug traffic impacts negatively on all sectors of society including schools, workplaces, governments, and it must be eradicated from society by collaborated effort,” he said.

He said illegal drug supply in Dominica is derived from cultivation and importation. “Cannabis is grown on a large scale in eight major zones on the island and it remains the illegal drugs most commonly used in Dominica. There is crack/cocaine but it is a little more expensive,” he added.

Williams told the press conference further that there is an active trade between suppliers from St Vincent into Dominica on a monthly basis by sea on go fast boats.

“At least 10 per cent of the amount of drugs that come to our shores are consumed locally while the remaining are exported to neighboring countries north of Dominica,” he said.

We see Prefrencial treatment here and where the police are leaning. He said so much about Marijuana and zones in D/a but no mention of cocaine, well…..’little’. What or who is he afraid of?

When he mentioned cocaine he was carefull to keep it short and include the word ‘little’. read between the lines. Are they serving a cocanie God that made zombies of our young people? Read what he said again below:

to much police ok greedy and jealous police officers in the force all wat they see they want and they cant afford it on thier salary so they the police officers join the drug trade and the law men know that but its time they take action to investigate some of these officers. some of them retire very early and try to manupulate the system because they know thier brother will stand for them. second of all there should be a law for people having boats to be registered with fisheries and notice should be giving to the coast gaurds wenever boats are living shore to go fishing in case of accident so by then these boats cannot bring in drugs or transport it out

the coast gaurd should be in controll of all boats on dominica shores like mahaut have some boats living high day doing thier illigality so wen drug men kill one another the police should not waste thier time and investigate

Ha ha Mr Williams how can the control of drugs stop when Dominica has no work to provide for young men. How can these things stop when police men are involved in it themselves. All I saying is that the people that suspose to stop it bringing it to Dominica. In Dominica is if I know someone in power I getting a job the same set of people that want to jail u is who that have the bigger role in the drugs running father

Marajuana is such an important plant for medicine. As much as they grow it in DA they should be ivesting in its medicinal uses. And its strange that in such a natural country people would have a problem with a non-lethal plant that has various PROVEN heath attributes. If dominica wanted to be progressive, it would be wise to open up the country to using the plant legaly for medicine. Right there on island at Ross they researching how to cure a number of dieases with it and make millions of US dollars. And Dominicans trying to wipe it out. They training people to grow it to make money for the US and Europe right in the country! And the police in Dominica busy arresting old rasta men in the bush. If it was a legal medical substance, those same men would be called horticulturalists (master gardeners). And be able able to make a legal, and substantial contribution to the society.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Firstly, these statements are double standard and filled with hypocrisy. Why doesn’t he talk about the large amounts of alcohol consumption in the Dominican society.

Secondly, Europe and America are the problem, they are the ones who are demanding the drugs thus they are the ones should be fought! In Dominica if someone brings you stolen goods without your knowledge and you are found (the ignorant) one, he the ignorant person gets arrested. They say that if there was no demand for the product there would be no theft.

Thirdly, the position towards people who consume marijuana should be reviewed. Cigarettes are more dangerous than marijuana. Marijuana should be utilized for medicinal purposes. I believe it is unfair to imprison someone who consume marijuana amongst hardened criminals.
