UPDATE: Police investigate homicide at Calibishie, canyoning accident at Trafalgar falls, and hit-and-run

The Commonwealth of Dominica police are currently investigating a series of incidents that occurred over the past two days, one of which resulted in a fatality.

The fatal incident took place in the community of Calibishie on December 28, shortly after 6:00 p.m. According to information reaching Dominica News Online (DNO), an unidentified male individual was involved in a chopping incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier on the same day, in the afternoon, another incident occurred at Trafalgar Falls. Dominica News Online (DNO) has been reliably informed that the incident happened when an individual who began rappelling (the act of going down a very steep slope by holding on to a rope that is fastened to the top of the slope) next to the waterfall in a normal state, suddenly stopped moving as she approached the bottom. The down-guide pulled on the rope but there was no response. The top-guide then lowered her down on two ropes and the unresponsive female was laid on a flat rock where CPR was immediately administered to her. However, these efforts failed to revive her.

The first of the incidents being investigated by the police happened on the evening of December 27, 2023, after 10:00 p.m. A man from Citronier, Owan Joseph, was hit by a vehicle near the Fond Cole Health Center on the E. O LeBlanc Highway. The driver is reported to have fled the scene, leaving Joseph critically injured. He was rushed to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital for urgent medical care.

Joseph’s family has since issued a heartfelt plea for the driver to come forward and assist in the investigation.

I have never seen such truth by DNO every word that you wrote was accurate. IBO has nine fingers pointing at him. None of his comments are edifying and he can’t change everyone with his critical behavior. IBO makes Dominica looks very bad. I do not live there but he runs people away. So critical and use your platform as his to spread malice. Thanks again. Honestly some of his comments should never never be posted. I don’t care if you are red or blue. He lacks common sense. Again I appreciate you standing up to this worthless blogger.

    ADMIN: The commenter read correctly.

We received new information and updated the article.

DNO this is exactly what happens when you don’t carry out your own investigations and
double the veracity of the stories you publish. To rely exclusively on second and third hand reports you are apt to mislead the public .

For the new year, you should endeavour to give more first hand account of local news, stop relying so much on scripts sent to your news desk by the mendacious members of government, be impartial at all times.

Never should you take constructive criticisms as an offence. That’s how we improve. Grow a thick hide like a buffalo soldier.

ADMIN: We urge you to take your own advice.

You have given us no reason to expect genuine change from you but we will use your example to show the difference between constructive criticism and opportunistic retaliation.

There is condescension and smearing in your comment with no real lesson for us to learn, grow and take action on, you rely instead on the impression that we erred because we publicly admitted to using a police source in response to constructive criticism that we freely published.

We will admit and correct errors and will strive to do better but we will not accept disingenuous shaming.

Your instruction feigns truth by appealing to a shared sense of moral principle but your approach lacks the genuine restraint of principle and ends with thinly veiled taunting – it is really a bully’s argument.

It comes across as a retaliatory response to our detailed addressing of your behaviour which can be found at the following link (our observations are based on your nearly 9,000 comments): https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/domlec-receives-assistance-from-agrekko-caribbean-a-company-versed-in-emergency-power-solutions/

There is NEVER a dull day in Dominica for all the wrong reasons. It is as if an evil spell has descended and blanketed the whole landscape of the island.

It seems as though collectively we have to bruise our knees and plead for forgiveness from the Father for the daily sins committed by Roosevelt and his sheep-like disciples.

God is just and His justice will not sleep forever. The injustices, wrongdoings, violations that this sinful and evil government has meted out to the poor and innocent citizens, have incurred the wrath of the Almighty.

DNO, the person invilved in the canyoning incident did not fall during the expedition as is being reported here. At no point did the person sustain any kind of fall. It would be better for your journalists to do a bit of investigation before wrongly reporting these type of things to the public.

ADMIN: We initially received this information from a police source.

We are following up and will continue to update as new information is available.
