Police are investigating the suspected suicide of Russell Carbon

Police are carrying out investigations into two serious incidents that occurred between June 21st and 22nd.

One involves a suspected suicide in Pottersville and another a shooting incident in Morne Prosper.

Police PRO Assistant Superintendent Claude Weekes confirmed during a live report on state-owned DBS Radio the investigations are ongoing into the suspected suicide of Russell Carbon 35, who was found hanging in his room on June 22.

He was officially pronounced dead by a Medical Doctor at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Weekes stated that an inquest will be convened shortly to be followed by a post-mortem.

He also reported that during the wee hours of Sunday, June 21, Nigel Leatham of Morne Prosper and another friend were attacked in a shack by masked men.

He said the attackers were armed with firearms and Leatham received gunshot wounds to his leg after being shot twice.

Leatham was taken to the PMH where he was admitted for a day or so and was discharged.

Weekes indicated that no one has yet been formally arrested for the crime.

He lamented that people are still using firearms indiscriminately in Dominica.

“We are doing our investigations and trust that the Morne Proper community will get involved with respect to solving this particular crime,” he noted.

What nonsense is this? You don’t know what was going on in the man head. Some people plan out their sucides elaborately and others act on impulse. Maybe he wasn’t even sure he was going to go through with it. Give the dead man a break, come now.

I know that something was wrong with him because for the past 3 weeks he was passing me straight and that’s not like him. I took it for a joke and I used to watch him and laugh saying but u have issues man. Because I know I did him no wrong. Sighs. I maybe should have tried talking to him. Maybe he would have confided in me. Oh boy…..

Hmmmm…the question is why he was passing you straight all of a sudden? Hmmmmmmmmmm

To much of our negativity thats wat causing all that,we don’t come an work together as we are suppose to. There for everything that go wrong we blame on man.Everyone big enough to no right from wrong. Plus why would u want to legalize the use of fire arms when so much shooting taking place… Dont u think that much more would go on if it was. SMH. Think people think.

If the use of guns was legalized it would be very easy to trace back the bullet or the shells. finding the owner of the gun would be easier. people would be more responsible in using it. because its not easy to get a legal gun. some men are forced to get one illegally and will use it to do crimes since the police department has no records of it.

Until you are certain why the individual committed suicide you can only assume. People commit suicide everyday especially in the more developed countries . You cannot be objective if you consistently blame the party in power for everything . Yes, they make a lot of errors but so do others and this thing about DBS , what about other bias news outlets locally ? It’s all politics . Everyone is looking for their own interest .

I thought it was a Post Mortum and then Inquest, so that the Information from the Post Mortum, would be presented at the Inquest? “Inquest, then Post Mortum.”? :?: :?: :?:

    • Police Friend
      June 26, 2015

The Inquest is opened at the Court where a Jury is selected and given instructions. They then go see the body at the Mortuary. The Post Mortem is then done by the Pathologist and the Inquest continues where evidence is given before the Coroner which includes the report of the Pathologist which will state the cause of death. When Weekes says an Inquest will be convened then a Post Mortem he is right, the Inquest starts at the Court before the body is cut by the Pathologist. Therefore, the Post Mortem is a part of the Inquest process. Inquest means investigations into the Cause of Death.

Did he really hang himself? Was it really suicide?
When the police went into the house, I hope a through examination was conducted for fingerprints and footprints. Including fingerprints on what was used to hang him. This will be one way of determining whether it was indeed suicide or not.
If it is suicide, I reiterate, it must be a serious reason why this occurred. Someone who knows him well and who spoke to him especially prior to this occurrence should be able to shed light if he had problems and mentioned of committing suicide.
    This is so sad. RIP.

Why everytime something happens in Dominica is always
Skerritt some folks jumping on. Now is the time to pull
Together and pray intensely. Let’s open our eyes and analyse
what’s really happening. We need to stop play politics on
    everything. ….Magwaysar.

These people will be punished. It is an evil deed that every time they accuse the PM of something and call him and his cabinet corrupt, they are heaping burning coals on their heads.
They are careless with words and abuse them. D/cans are baptized Christians who practice the faith or some once practiced it. They should know that Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “. . . By your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.”
Let them continue. One day they will find out to their detriment.

        I agree stop blaming skerrit

  11. June 23, 2015

It is so sad to see young people committing suicide in Dominica. We need to take a closer look to find out what exactly is causing these suicide to happen in our country. Mr. Weeks should be investigating that instead so as to prevent others from experiencing the same fate. I believe that young people are giving up on living in Dominica because Mr. Skerrit has made life unbearable with all the corruption, cronyism and nepotism that is going on.
Mr. Weeks and Mr. Carbon here is something to investigate and please, hurry up. Do it quickly before the country itself implodes from within because you won’t need an inquest nor a postmortem.

    • The Real Facts
      June 23, 2015

When Dominica was worst off financially and the people got nothing from the government, even though they were unemployed, they did not commit suicide.
You are unfair and wrong in accusing and judging the PM. You better cease this. As God hears you and observes your comment, you will be punished.
Wait until you hear/read about the results of the inquest and post-mortem and then you can conclude what really happened.

maybe they should give us the people a right to own firearms, just like America, since it is so hard to get a firearm legally, whereas it’s REALLY easy to get a firearm illegally

    • The Real Facts
      June 23, 2015

These illegal firearms were brought into D/ca by air and sea. Some with drugs and they were not caught.
Consider that innocent people do get caught between flying bullets. Some get injured, maimed and/or killed. It has occurred more than once in Canada. Some are in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could also be mistaken identity.
A few years ago I recall a Jewish lady was in a small restaurant waiting to be served. Someone shot through the glass window. The bullet or bullets hit her. She is maimed for life and uses a wheelchair.
Torontonians were shocked and did not take it lightly. She was minding her own business and this occurred to her. The person was eventually caught; a black man. She did not know the man or those involved. I think it had something to do with illegal drugs and protecting their turf.
The best you can do is to pray to God for protection and stay away from bad company which corrupts. Pray also for Dominica.

Do they always have to say “state-owned DBS radio”??? I think EVERYONE knows that by now. Smh

    • June 23, 2015

Dbs is skerritt owned, not state owned!

      • June 23, 2015

LABOUR PARTY OWNED. DBS radio=Dominica’s Bias Station

    • The Real Facts
      June 23, 2015

   You made me laugh. It is simply a formality. I do not think in the past state-owned or rather government-owned was used. All of us knew that the government owns and operates DBS. There was no emphasis of government-owned.
Today, Dominica has a prime minister and is called a State. Since it has a PM and is called a State due to independence, Roseau is called a city.
Before that it was simply called Dominica and Roseau was called a town which I still consider as such. :)
Worldwide, many read DNO. State-owned may be for those who do not know much about Dominica and who probably read the News and wish to comment. Just my thoughts. :)
      Times have changed.
