As festive activities heighten ahead of carnival in Dominica, police officials here are reiterating a call for cooperation from the general public.
“We continue to solicit the public’s cooperation…to be peaceful…stay away from weapons,” Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Claude Weekes advised in an interview with Dominica News Online.
Inspector Weekes also reiterated his appeal to the public to respect the new police officers. Thirty-two officers graduated from the Recruit Training Course on Friday.
According to the police official, 10:00 p.m. has been settled on as the end time for carnival on February 15 and 16. Therefore, Carnival Monday celebrations will take place from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while celebrations of Carnival Tuesday will take place between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, a Bouyon Festival is on tonight followed by the Miss Teen Dominica pageant on Sunday. On Monday there will be Lagon Street Jam, followed by a Lapo Kabwit/Sensay Festival on Tuesday, and the Stardom King of the Tent on Wednesday.

At the opening of carnival motor cycle riders were in the parade on their motorbikes and four wheelers not wearing HELMETS…………. I hope the police will enforce the use of helmets at the parades and during normal traffic!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn’t it seem strange that nobody is concerned about the wearing of helmets?
A young man is currently fighting for his life and the I.C.U. as a a result of another motor cycllist involved in an accident and was not wearing a helmet………….. Police PRO Inspector Weekes……….. Dont you think it is time that the police enforces the law………… if there is one that says that motorcyclists should wear their helmets ……….like is done in every civilized country in the world……….. And if there isn’t one, dont all of believe that the AG……. AND Min of LA………. should start the ball rolling to enact the law?
I WISH IT RAIN SO HEAVY THAT PEOPLE CAN EVEN GET OUT
There should be zero tolerance in effect now leading up to Ash Wednesday. Anyone who makes the festivities dangerous and menacing for the rest of us should get to see the inside of a jail cell. No-holds-barred.
DA people have fun, listen to the police jump in peace, wish i was there……………..
