Police question suspects in Credit Union roberry

Curious onlookers at the scene of the robbery in Marigot

Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette says he is not able to confirm at the moment, reports that four suspects have been detained and are likely to be taken to court at Portsmouth on Friday and charged with the robbery at the Marigot Credit Union.

One source within the police force told Dominica News Online that the slapping of charges on four individuals is imminent.

However Commission Carrette says as far as he is aware, that’s not the case, with the situation being that “persons are being questioned”.

“We are optimistic that charges will be brought (but) I can’t tell you how soon,” the Commissioner said.

According to the police, Friday’s daring daylight robbery took place at about 2:15 in the afternoon, with police on patrol in Marigot discovering the robbery in progress.

The police were greeted with gunfire and a shootout ensued.

When the smoke cleared one robber was found suffering from gunshot wounds while the police vehicle was damaged by gunfire.

It is reported that the men wore bullet proof vests and camouflage clothing.

The robber was taken to hospital and is presently under police guard.

Police also recovered an Escudo rental, registered TG105 owned by Road Runner Rental, used by the men.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen from a Canadian couple, who were robbed earlier in the day at Batibou.

Ammunition and cash, believed to be loot from the robbery, were recovered from the vehicle.

      @ Mind Allu Biznezz

You too, mind your own business! Allow the Police and DNO to mind theirs.
Do you have proof that the Police is beating and abusing them? Prior to making such statements, ensure that what you have stated is correct and it is not hearsay.
The best thing that those arrested could do for themselves is to behave. They must know that they are in the hands of the Law and they must conduct themselves appropriately and obey. If they do, they will not feel that they are mishandled by the Police. People, or rather criminals cannot be wrong and strong. They are already a menace to society. Society should be happy when they will be incarcerated and hopefully for life.
If you know those criminals who could very well have murdered their victims and the Police as well, instruct them to be docile and humble. I recognize that this is not a trait they possess otherwise they would not be stealing from people as also the tourists and harming them. They are in dire need of the blessing and grace of God to assist them to live normal, good, godly and respectful lives.
I expect that you are a Christian. Pray for them that they may change their ways of crime. They are also in dire need of prayers.

Face masks, guns, bullet proof vests and camouflage. This sounds like Dominica has become what some people will call a big, progressive country and a place to fear. Little people of no consequence utilizing those items to place fear in DA nationals of all. Let us be strong and not give in to criminals and murderers.
Where, in the name of God did they get those paraphernelia? How were they able to bring them into Dominica?
Chief of Police, it is time for stringent action and rules to be applied. You must do your utmost to put a stop to those criminal activities. The onus is on you and your Police Force. Please take this seriously. It is now time to arm yourselves with warrants and go into homes to search them, inside and out, up and down and underneath them to retrieve those evil items which are utilized during a robbery and on victims, business owners, other members of the public and the tourists. However, you should not divulge this to those who are not in authority.
There will be complaints but the time has come to do something about this which is getting out of hand. Thieves are also out to murder.
Dominica will lose tourists which is not good for the economy. You just cannot allow this type of behaviour to continue. Dominica is too small for this. Please try to restore safety in Dominica. May God bless you and be with you in your quest to eradicate such criminal activities from our beautiful island. Sadly and regretable, I can no longer call it safe.

They are too bold. A spoke needs to be put in their wheels (old Dominican saying) for troublemakers. :) I shake my head when I hear and read what is occurring in DA and also islands which never experienced this sort of criminal activity. It appears that the devil has taken over the souls and entire bodies of those men who are performing those evil acts.
A thought occurred to me, if you are a Catholic, utilize Holy Water and bless them, their surroundings as villages with it. Do so with a prayer. Probably, this may drive the devil in them and their area away once and for all. a saintly person bygone years, St. Teresa Avila whom Satan bothered immensely as he did to others and those who on the side of God, also propagating the faith said, “The devil cannot stand to be near people who are blest with holy water. She also said he will run from the Cross/Crucifix but he will soon come back but he is surely afraid of Holy Water and will not return for the whole day.” From the moment I read this, I have armed myself and home with Holy Water. Believe me it works. People who utilize the Holy Water will experience much peace of heart and mind.
Peace and safety must be restored year round to Dominica.
Pray and get others to pray and perform acts of love and mercy. God will answer your prayers in time. God bless!

I dont know why the police officers did’nt give chase to those thugs.I had an incident in April of 1990 when 2 masked men wearing army uniform robbed the Castle Bruce Credit Union with firearms. On getting the information I gave chase, met up with the robbers, fired at them , hitting one in the wrist and the other in his leg. I also got shot.
Single-handedly they were captured and were dealt with by the law. More could have been done in the Marigot incident. Now if that one in the hospital refuses to talk, or his other accomplices go to the hospital and silence him, I dont see that investigation going any where

Selective criminology investigation and resolution still hang above the head of the police department. We know that the police can solve crime that is why we will criticize them for selective criminal investigation. This is what we pay them to do- to protect ALL not some.

It is always easier to ‘catch’ a young man than to actually get the BIG criminal. I think when we get swift action by the police we really need to know it is the right guys and not just some poor bums to shut the public up.

I have no idea what you are referring to, but hope the right men are apprehended.

These guys were NOT bums … they were highly experienced and deadly. they wore the right clothing and had money to fund this whole escapade.

These were MEN not youths. I hope to God that these are the right guys.

We cannot have these deadly shooters loose anymore. They are too organized.

In God`s sight no sin is greater than the other,so he could say the same about us all when we sin, But instead he said ” if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us” he also went a little further to die for those ” you call animals” It`s true that many are angry but some ppl have to becareful of what your tongue speaks.

They get little or no punishment at all and are left to repeat their crimes over and over again. in my village we know all jail birds because they go in today and come out tomorrow ever since they were young. now if these guys were given serious time, we would forget they exist.

The young man who is in the hospital nursing his wounds after the police shot out, should be able to talk. The police should know who their parents are and question the parents about their movements. The police can also obtain pictures from their parents and have the pictures posted as WANTED with a reward. Why didn’t the police chase the criminals who escape.
The Minister of National Security and Chief of police should hold a conference letting the nation know that they will not let this go easy. There are tourist or foreigners on the island who are now getting very scared about what’s taking place on the island. The Minister of Security people need to feel safe. The people wants to know that the criminals who are attaching the tourist will be dealt with harshly. The police on the north needs to do more patrol and the beaches need signs saying after 4:pm the beaches are closed. The beaches need security and more lights.

    March 15, 2012

My goodness Dominica!!! It appears obvious to me now that the vast majority, if not all of these robberies, are being carried out by the very same gang of people. If we look at the robberies, most of them have been carried out by persons wearing camouflage uniforms. They are possibly trying to throw the police off track or to give people the impression that the police are involved. But we must take it very seriously. It is against the law to where such uniforms or parts of such uniforms if one is not on duty as a police officer. This should be very strictly enforced and anyone wearing these clothes should expect to go to jail even though not caught involved in criminal acts! We need to be sure that the law is obeyed otherwise we will never catch these guys. The police need to be patrolling in whatever vehicles they have, not running around having fun. They need to travel through the communities concentrating on key institutions such as the banks, supermarkets, credit unions and others who handle large amounts of cash. The police should also be setting up road blocks and searching suspicious vehicles at different times of the day or night. They should also raid the houses of those who are known or suspected to be involved in criminality without fear or favour. Let them know that you are there and are watching them and that they will feel the force of the law if the persist in breaking it. It is about time that our country returns to peace and in ordser to do that, those who are lawless need to be removed from the general population. Dominica is too small a place with too small a population for people not to have suspicions as to who might be involved, or even evidence pointing to their involvement. It is now urgent that we retake our country and about time that the PM and the government become more active in doing so and in leading the people out of this situation. Remember PM, one must lead BY EXAMPLE!!!!! All the sources of corruption must be removed from society in order that it return to a state of peace and tranquility. The changes need to take place throughout our society, from the top down!!!! Save Dominica my people………for our children and our grands and beyond! One love…….

    • tactical
      March 15, 2012

I am one of those who usually give the police blows along the same lines that 100% just did. We need the force to be more proactive, great they have four allegged or suspects and I do hope that they have enough evidence to convict those terrorist – yeah charge them under the terrorism act because if they are the ones found to have been involved in the multiple of criminal behavior over the last several months then they should be viewed or categorize as terrorist because in the process of carrying these crimes thats what they did they actually terrorized the victims. So I say maximum penalty not excluding the possibility of life imprisonment. On the otherhand the police should keep the momentum going – do the occassional spot checks do road blocks adhovly even when there is no reported incident or crime. No one should be aware when and where- lets take the fight to the criminals and lets stop being reactive all the time. And we the public must give information to the police on suspicious behavior and illegal behavior- as the calypsoin sang a few years ago — it is time we collectively take back control .

Our young men go over to the french islands and commit crimes especially robberies. I hope the french men will not start coming over well armed to reclaim their property and the persons responsible, hmmm yampiece sounds very fishy.

GOOD MORNING DNO…ANY UPDATES ON THE PROGRESS OF THE INVESTIGATION OF THE RAPE OF THE 12 YEAR OLD GIRL IN CALIBISHIE???? PLEASE UPDATE…EVEN IF ITS TO SAY THAT NO PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE…THIS CASE SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN…THANK YOU

    • March 15, 2012

Alas leave Calibishie out of it.Know your geographical boundaries. It was Batebou, located between Bense and Hampstead, they are both on the map. When good things happen in Calibishie, the country and world does not hear about/of it.All these crimes have taken place out of Calibishie. The tourists were in a guesthouse in Calibishie, and i think it is up to the hoteliers/guesthouse keepers to warn their guests about the dangers that loom in Batebou.I have no doubt that the same ;?rs that raped the tourist at BATEBOU are the same goat-heads that held up the Marigot Credit Union.Bear with me please….it is frustrating to hear Calibishie in the wrong all the time.It gives Calibishie a bad name, but we are with the police,we won’t stop, for our own safety.

True, Please follow up. It is so frustrating to get a small piece of the story. Catherine is right, even if there is nothing new to report. Otherwise we are all left to our own stories be them heard on the street or made up. PM? are you in charge of security on this island. Will it take all the tourist boats to pull out before we hear anything from you. Don’t tell us everything is safe. Dominica is anything but safe.

The police did not “discover the robery in progress”, they were alerted to what was taking place by a customer who was doing business at the time.

The onlooker indeed alerted them. However it can be concluded that after they wr alerted, they discovered a robbery was in progress!

So u don’t hv a point here! Go learn English!

perhaps then the report should say that the police who were on patrol in the area at the same time were alerted by an anonymous person about the robbery

if they were not patrolling could the customer alert them is that important? Thats all you have to say is that important? fool! They fact remains that the police was on alert in the area and do you ecpext the Chiep to say publicly that a civilian al;erted the polcie to put the person at risk, that is if what you saying is a fact. He still cannot say so and stop exposing people stupes.

Anyway, is not Marigot Police that there ka mem! It was the task force…so if they were alerted, why wasn’t it Marigot Police Station and not task force? Anyway, just asking. Because task force was most likely on a patrol or something.
