Police suspect in Dominican murder case

Police in Antigua have reportedly arrested a male police officer and a woman as they widen their investigation in the murder of Dominican Dorothy Prince.

The media in Antigua is reporting that the policeman is the only suspect so far in the case, while the woman is assisting in the investigation.

It is reported that the woman, who worked at a gas station, was picked up on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the police remain tight-lipped on the arrest of one of their own. When pressed for a comment police PRO Snr Sgt William Holder said he could not confirm that an officer had been detained. He said such information would have to come from the desk of the police commissioner.

Prince, from Grand Fond, was shot last Friday when three masked men invaded the gas station where she worked as an attendant. A fourth accomplice remained in a getaway car. The men escaped with $5,200 but opened fire upon leaving. Prince was shot three times and she died last Saturday.

Police made a major breakthrough on Tuesday when they recovered a green Nissan Almera motorcar believed to have been used as the getaway car.

There are times those thefts are planned inside jobs with outsiders. It is shocking and a disgrace that a Police Officer is accused of murdering this lovely Dominican lady with two children, depriving the children of a wonderful mother.
Shame on that Police Officer. Shame for stealing and using a mask and gun! If that gun is the Police Officer’s own, it belongs to the Police Force, the government.
First, using a mask, a gun; stealing; then murders. This P.O. is in very hot water and for life. I hope the P.O. receives the full brunt of prosecution. If Antigua has the death penalty, this P.O. should be executed. Police Officers should know better. This is also a scandal.
Only tonight there was a program on the Catholic Radio and the following passage was quoted from Holy Scripture, the Word of the Lord: Luke 12:48 – Vigilant and Faithful Servants – “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”
The above applies to everyone in general, no exception the Police Force. As the host of the program stated, “God will judge us by what we know and what we were given by His grace, by everything He gave to us.”
Police Officers should exercise their duties in an exemplary manner. The public does not expect Police Officers (with no exception) to deviate from their duty and the vow that they took, “To serve and protect.” Most of all, this vow was done in the presence of God. All vows are made in the presence of God.
As it is stated in Ecclesiastes 5:2:6 – When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed. You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it. Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before his representative, “It was a mistake,” lest God be angered by such words and destroy the works of your hands. Rather, fear God.”
This will happen to some right here on this earth, for those who are caught. For others who are not caught and those who may be acquitted, it will also be in eternity.
The eyes of Jesus are on every footstep we take, every word we say and whatever we do. No one and nothing is hidden from Him.
I can imagine that Antiguans will be eagerly awaiting the Court hearings for those Police Officers who were caught. Obviously, also the family of Dorothy Prince, for the one who murdered her. Dorothy, may you rest in peace.

if those fools had valued human life, they would have not taken her life for $5200, if this police officer is involved in this crime, he should be taught a serious lesson so that all the other (CROOKED COPS)could learn from. Let them know that their duty is to uphold the law.

      @ Dominican

If a police officer could do this what is next? This was a fake policeman who did not deserve the position which he held.
Prior to being a policeman he could have been a criminal who was not caught.
I did ask myself that question, is the police that broke to do something like that and to murder a woman? He really deserves to be severely punished.

interesting… in Antigua there is a Dominican killed and there are reports as to Police investigations. Dominicans read that and want to know…

In Dominica, there is an Irishman killed, a German couple badly beaten, a French woman raped… and surprise: These countries’ news report about that too. People want to know…

the only difference is that there are hardly any news as to Dominican police arresting any suspects. That, too, is very interesting to Irish, French and German people.

      @ tourist

Pertaining to the case of the Irish man who was murdered, three young men were caught and arrested. I hope that they are still in prison awaiting a Court hearing.
If some are not caught, do not worry. The day may come when they will steal, etc. again and will get caught. God knows who they are. If they are not caught in this life, know that they are already caught. When they die they will not receive a welcome from Our Lord Jesus Christ. He will say to them: “Depart from Me ye cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
Have hope and trust in God. He knows their heart. They will do well to turn themselves in to the Police. Then change and make restitution to God in the form of penance and sacrifice if they ever hope for compassion, mercy and forgiveness from our God. Our God is patient and is an impartial God.

      @Tourist:
With all due respects, I take you at your word that you are a tourist but, forgive me Lord, you come across like one of those angry Dominicans who like to bash the country and tarnish its image for whatever reason.
Are there no unsolved crimes in Antigua, Ireland, Germany and France? For your information, Eustace Benjamin, Don Prosper and Sillas Bruno are sitting in jail without bail; charged with the murder of Joe Costello, the Irish man. With no facilities for DNA testing or even the technical skills to collect DNA and to lift finger prints, it is difficult to solve rape crimes without eye witness details. Even substancial DNA requires a data base to make comparisms before a ‘match’ is ascertained. So, keep bashing us. May God bless you!!

I would not criticize tourist for making such a statement. Tourist is dealing with the crime in Dominica. This is the concern and a rightful one. If you reside in DA you should concern yourself with what is occurring in DA which is bad enough.

What is really going on in this Antigua? A couple weeks ago a police officer was arrested and charged for robbery at Gun point, now another is being investigated for murder. You would think these people are supposed to be protecting the people and they turn around and betray them rather. God help us. RIP Dorothy

  21. February 23, 2012

I hope the police officer is not a Dominican because mosely all police in Antigua is forgine nation, the police is pay to protect us and is them that is doing all the crime and geting away with it I hope they give him the max if he is gulity justice must be done with some of those crimials who dress in uniform to hide their true faces 8)

Apparently it was a plot between him and one of her co-workers his lover. I believe she recognized him and he shot her. He shot her after she gave him the cash, and he was walking away then pumped several bullets into her. The woman has 2 small kids and a family. Pure greed, everybody wants to live large and have more than they can afford, that Antiguan police force is so corrupt they had to get Canadians to clean up shop and still there are rogues in there. Bribery and thievery is the norm. If you not part of it, you ain’t in it.

      @ God’s child

Do not be surprised about that. Some people have been murdered for a few cents or for not giving money. It may not happen in DA but elsewhere. It has happened in Toronto. There was a case that a man was approached downtown by two pan handlers (those who beg for money) and asked him for money. He did not give them. They beat him and killed him. The case was called and they were sent to prison. Guess what? These two murderers are not from Toronto but from the U.S.
The world is filled with them who are a menace to society. They go to other countries and create havoc there. They have no respect for the Law and others. Some of them will not work but will go about begging, vandalizing, breaking and enter houses, apartments, businesses and banks. They like an easy life, one of leisure. Little do they know that this type of life is a dead end, a cul-de-sac – leading to nowhere.
Some are caught and some are not caught. Some are caught days, weeks, months and years. The Police are on their trail. They may appear to be “cold cases” but are still “hot cases”. Someone may squeal on them. God is good!
Today, a Toronto Police was sent to prison for murder. This is the first time it occurred. Generally, when they are accused of murder, charged and appear in Court, somehow, they are acquitted. Not this time! He may appeal.
As it was stated, this was an exemplary policeman who received citations a few years ago.
He was on patrol and went to a house where there was some problem. It was stated that he shot the man, a West Indian person, three times. Later, I will hear more on the late news.
Some members of the Police Force dishonor their Badge and fail to serve and protect.

There’s nothing shocking about crimes and who commit them in the world at large. Too often we notice that those who swear to defend and protect, are the ones most commonly think they can get away when they commit those heinous crimes. I am confident the Antiguan Police and CID will arrest all the perpetrators and have justice done for the bereaved family in due time.
