Policeman gets $30,000 bail

Police officer Ohssel Tyson, who was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the Easter weekend is now on bail in the sum of EC$30,000.00

Tyson appeared before a Roseau magistrate on a charge of stealing a firearm (a Glock 19 pistol) and 15 rounds of ammunition valued at over EC$3,000.00.

The gun and the ammunition allegedly belong to the state.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was asked to surrender all his travel documents and to report on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Roseau police Station.

He is represented in the matter by Zena Dyer.

    DNO:

I always state that when I put my finger to the keyboard I know what I plan to state but what will further generate from my mind, only God knows. This writing might be too long for the column. You could post it as a commentary, if you so wish. I leave this up to you.
I have an idea. You could send some of the applicable information to the Police Chief or someone else in authority. Please do not allow my writing to go to waste. Thank you! God bless and have a great day and weekend.

Pertaining to this article, I feel obligated to comment accordingly to what was stated about me. There is someone who commented on this Website and stated that I will not be a lawyer because I have no brains and that I am being judgmental. This is an insult. What about the person? Is this person not being judgmental and impatient? Some of them have exhibited that they do not have love for reading and to learn something different and new at that yet this person accused me of having no brains. The one who made this derogatory statement know who he/she is. I do not appreciate insults and demeaning words and I condemn them.
It was also stated that he/she challenged me on a topic and I went into hiding. The idea! This is a big laugh. Go into hiding for what reason, to avoid a response? I may have been busy therefore I did not access DNO for a few days as much as I would like to, not wanting to miss the current news. I have the intelligence to stand up to whatever they ask or challenge me on, be it religious or non-religious.
Then the person referred to my knowing people from Pointe Michel as if he/she had something against Pointe Michel people. I racked my brains and thought, in the area where I reside whom do I know from Pointe Michel. I thought I only know a few who, in my estimation are amicable people. So whoever made a negative statement and other adverse innuendos is wrong and about Pointe Michel people. One, you do not generalize against a country, village and all the people who have done you nothing.
This is exactly what DNO’s directives stated about throwing words and making derogatory statements to others who comment on this Website. Generally we should stick to the issue. There are times we could deviate from it but some inferences and personal ones are uncalled for and irrelevant. I reiterate, especially when they do not know the writer. They want their say but they do not allow others their rights to comment. The Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you have others do unto you.” Furthermore you do not know me personally.
I wished that such people would keep their personal views to themselves and not attack others whom they do not know and yes, stick to the issue. They are accusing others, attacking them personally and being judgmental on this Website when they do not know them. It makes no sense to me. Some of them or a few of them appear to be unhappy and bitter people who spew out negativity and sarcasm. They do not appreciate hearing what is virtuous and encouraging. They will prevent others from doing what is good, to do and say and commenting on this Website. There are the doers and non-doers. They are not advocates of justice, truth and peace and do not help their society in any manner. They are only talkers who do nothing to change their environment for the better. Their words are irrelevant and not helpful.
My advice is to be kind to your fellow Dominicans be it on this Website. Speak your mind and the truth fairly. We are all free to agree or disagree amicably without hurling slurs at others on this Website. This is not the purpose of this Website. We project our intelligence, the depth of it and maturity when we accord others their due freedom, rights and dignity to provide their comments which are free of charge. Some people need to learn that.
Bold and inconsiderate as some are, they even dictate to DNO about their manner of journalism and what they should write and how to write about articles as if they are DNO’s bosses and know better than DNO.
One of them stated that DNO’s present management is worst than the previous one. I was surprised that this person’s comment was allowed to be posted. Personally, I think the new DNO management is better than previously and that I have noticed those who comment since DNO is under new management their comments, to a certain extent are much more improved.
They will also criticize others for writing long letters. They were not the ones who prepared it. Consider the length of time it takes to do so and appropriately. I consider it a feat. Of course some of us love reading and writing which are also hereditary traits. This is why we have a lot to say and write about and sensibly. I also like to state that we also put on our thinking cap and as we write additional words come through our minds which is, thanks be to God.
Well, I have brains and a lot of it; sometimes too much of it as given to me by the Almighty God and inherited from my parents otherwise I would not be able to write and reason out matters. You see, I am all for love, justice, peace and unity and will pursue it to the fullest. This is part of my character and personality trait. Those virtues do not prevent me from standing up for the truth, speaking and writing the truth and defending the truth whether religious or non-religious. It is by no means being judgmental but stating what is plain and simple, the truth.
Some people misunderstand the meaning of judging and speaking the truth or they cannot differentiate between them. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “I judge by what ‘I see’”. If people comprehend His words they will not state that others are judging simply by providing their comments on the issue.
I have stated that I could never be a defense lawyer and for good reasons. I have also stated my reasons. This means that I would not be impartial towards criminals. I do not harm them; have no intentions of doing so and never will for it is not in my nature to harm anyone be it by words. I just do not have the inclination to defend them. The only type of lawyer I would be is that of a prosecutor, working for the Crown and/or Nation. Nationals should know that when criminals/murderers commit crimes, they commit them against the Nation, the people, themselves, everyone in general in the country and they deserve to be judged by the people and rightfully so.
Criminals, whoever they are whether they are well known or not have done great harm to society and their victims and to others who are not their victims, as DA nationals. It is a grave matter that Dominica has had a rash of crimes which appear to be an epidemic and some very bad ones in recent years, the likes of which Dominicans never thought would occur in their country, people utilizing guns, masks and bulletproof vests.
Tourists have been attacked and their personal effects stolen which will cause them to cease visiting Dominica. This should be another cause of grave concern. Dominica is getting a bad reputation from overseas as well. This is not good for Dominica and its nationals who were always loving, caring, happy and peaceful. I recognize that some of them still are. These are the ones who would like to such crimes eradicated.
There is cause for concern. The actions of criminals have placed a great deal of personal, economical, physical hardship, fear and also caused grief for fellow Dominicans especially the victims.
Business owners have also been affected. The country’s economy is suffering and will continue to suffer due to crimes. Crimes affect every law-abiding person in a nation. Their peace, peace of mind and the peace of the nation in general have been disturbed by such crimes.
Therefore, nationals are obligated to speak up and condemn such evil activities which have permeated the nation. They must try to do something about it and cooperate with the Police authorities, hopefully those of integrity.
Those who were born and brought up in Dominica and who reside abroad and read of criminal activities are also obligated to speak up and to write about it. They are also helping DA national residents be it verbally. Even from afar we can help. They have not ceased caring about their country. They, too, have family and friends who are still residing in DA. They have reasons to be concerned about them and also when they visit DA.
The Dominican society could very well do without criminals specifically of this nature for they have done a great injustice to their country and fellow people and placed a heavy burden on them. According to the Law they should receive the full brunt of the punishment that is due to them.
There should be no preferential treatment and leniency towards them whatsoever. People must think before they act and the repercussions that will follow when they are caught. When they get to Court, facing the judge/magistrate, only then they depict that they are sorry. I would say that it is too late to be sorry. The harm has already been done. They want what is good for them and expect the Law to be lenient towards them or release them when they did not accord their victims the same treatment. As far as I am concerned they should not be walking the streets. It could be either you or me or our families who will sometime experience their evil actions.
While incarcerated be it for a night or for a longer period, they should be properly fed and given at least a mattress to sleep on. They should be treated humanely. This is primarily the Law of God. I do not advocate treating them otherwise because they have committed crimes. The Law is the One to deal with them, in the Court of Law, to try them for their crimes.
Dominica being a small country should never have such types of criminals and also murderers. It never experienced this in bygone years. This tells us that people of yesteryear were godly, better ones and law-abiding citizens who were disciplined and respected others and their comments. What has happened in recent years to cause these types of criminal activities is beyond my comprehension. However, it is attributed to evil hearts and the reign of Satan is evident. TV and bad company also played a great part.
Criminals also do not love their country or anyone for that matter. If they did, they would live a law-abiding life. It is too bad that law-abiding people live among them and vice versa.
Generally, criminals/murderers are guilty. They are caught red-handed. Yet they will plead not guilty; the nerve of them. They murder others and place the blame on the dead victim. Some will state that “I was not there. I was somewhere else. I was sleeping” and there are those who will come to their defense and support them, even by commenting as such on this Website. We have heard and read about their trickery to try to be acquitted while some of their victims are no more and others suffer hardship and other ailments.
There are many examples. A typical one is about this Florida man, George Zimmerman who murdered a black teenager and stated that it was in self-defense. The man is a liar. The Law states that a person is not guilty until proven guilty. That is the Law but not where God is concerned who knows that they are guilty.
There are times they are guilty and are acquitted. Criminals are liars and will say anything, hoping that they will be acquitted. Their lawyers could defend them successfully. This is why a calypsonian made a song, “Lawyers are liars.” I am not stating that overall lawyers are liars but in a Court of Law when they are defending criminals/ murderers and knowing that they committed the crimes/murders, they are liars and expend their energy to prove that they are not guilty. This is not demeaning them and their position. It is the truth.
I have deduced that criminals as human beings have a right to a defense lawyer. This is the Law. Lawyers are paid, be it at the expense of taxpayers, their concern is to try to successfully defend their clients. It may also have something to do with an ego trip, “I won the case” and in order to get more business. Guilty people could be set free because of their successful defense. These will never be rehabilitated. They will continue to be a menace to society and create havoc in the land.
Many of you have heard the full story of George Zimmerman and that he was told not to pursue the teenager. Yet, he went after him. If he had left the teenager alone the teenager would have been alive today. This saddens me and should sadden every law-abiding person in the entire world who possesses compassion. Zimmerman was the perpetrator and he downright murdered him, caused by his racist personality.
I heard on TV News his lawyer said that his client will plead not guilty. Now, what did those of you who heard and read about this story would state about this man? You must have said that he deserved imprisonment, throw away the keys and hanging just as you state for DA criminals/ murderers. Would you not be judging them? Yet, I would not lambaste and insult you for that. You are stating what is in your mind according to your emotions, that people have a right to walk the streets without obstruction from others, without being injured, murdered or having their personal effects stolen from them.
Some of you give people thumbs down when they do not deserve it. If they are stating the truth, why give them thumbs down? Typically, there are those who do not appreciate hearing and reading the truth. They are the ones who give thumbs down. Whose side are you on, the right side of justice and truth or the left side of injustice and untruth?
There are some people who are cantankerous and are not peaceful people. Some are more broadminded, loving and compassionate than others. Some are more perfect than others. Others are not perfect at all. These should learn from others and emulate them and for peace sake.
I have been called to be a prospective juror. I do not want to be a juror for this same reason. Jurors are to be impartial. I could not endure sitting and hearing about a murder case or that an injustice was committed against another.
When I go to the meeting, I will inform the one who will be discussing it with me about my feelings, that whatever the type of case, I am not impartial towards criminals and never will. I hope this should exonerate me from jury duty forever.
We must be fair and just. The day will come when we will answer to God for all what we have done and failed to do. This is also to speak the truth and allow others their rights to do so without insulting them. DNO is not the place to spew out these types of words. We are judged by our words, actions and the company we keep. We make ourselves happy when we project love and understanding to others for what goes around comes around. Well, I could write a book on this one.
I thank DNO for giving me the privilege of providing my comments.

‘the whole.’ Is this why there are so many guns in Dominica? The Police should check those guns which have been confiscated to see whether they belong to the Police Force as in the case of the recent arrests of those Grand Bay people. If they were not stolen and belong to the Police Force, then there is the proof that they were sold to them. They do need outside or civil investigators. The Police should not investigate themselves.

Call the chief and ask why did the arrest take place before suspension. The officer was only served wth his letter of suspension today and a breach of police regulations. This man will be a millionaire on tax payers money because the arrest was done in haste to please members of the public.I hope the investigating officer knows the points to prove in theft and who has the right to carry fire arms without licence under the fire arms act. When the chief take all the illiterats and place them in cid and special branch what do expect recruits interviewing prospective officers what would you expect. Some can’t write proper sentences poor grammer what you expect.incompetent officers are being promoted and have never testified in court in all thier years what do expect?

I would like Matt and Carlsile do more investigation. When Carlisle was asked if he was suspended from duty he replied it is obvious because he was arrested and charged.Mr Jno.Baptiste do your research only the police service commission can suspend him it was holiday where would sit and then give him a letter of suspension.Check Chapter 14:01 of the Dominica Revised laws of 1990 and you will see for yourself.Every body calling for his neck why are we so blood thirsty so in Dominica. We dominicans go on the radio without knowing the facts of the matter. It is difficult to convict a police officer for stealing govt. firearm because they can have it on thier person. To prove theft you must prove he did with intent to permently deprive owner. If he is entitled to carry it how can he steal it.They were investigating the officer for an alleged rape they found out the woman who made the allegations was a liar they just want to victimise the man to see him fall.Carlisle and Matt all u should find out before you call for his neck and say what people tell all you

    • Papa Dom
      April 12, 2012

Friend of Police, you are equally guilty of not doing your research. Your definition of theft is lacking in one important area, “taking of another person’s property without that person’s permission or consent”. Now let us put your statement “It is difficult to convict a police officer for stealing govt. firearm because they can have it on their person” in context of the entire definition and the rules which govern the having it on their person. You see my dear friend, the officer can only have a firearm in his possession or on his person, if that firearm is issued to him and should return that firearm when the period for which it was issued has ended. The question which should be asked is; was the firearm issued to the officer by the relevant authority? If not then this satisfies the first part of the definition. If as is being alleged, the officer was attempting to sell the said firearm then the second part of the definition is satisfied and he can be charged with theft. As neither of us is a lawyer and we do not have all the facts, I will not go into all the other circumstance which can lead to a successful prosecution for theft even if he did not attempt to sell the firearm.

Hi, It’s my understanding that the Officer was arrested for selling a gun to someone. Well, I suspect that the investigators from CID turned that person who told them that the Officer sold the gun. That is why this person was not named. I have said that CID should not be conducting any investigation into curruption within the Police Department rather this should be conducted by Internal Affairs of the Police Department. As a former member of NYPD who spent three and a half years in Internal Affairs where I arrested One Detective, One Police Officer and Thriteen Civilians. I can assure you that CID do not have the capabilities to conduct such investigation and guide this case to a suscessful conclusion. This Officer will win this case on a technicality.

I heard Mr Behanzin on 95 FM calling for the head of that police officer on a platter.I beleive Mr Behanzin made a mistake by paying into Matt Peltiers hand.I would advise mr behanzin as a lawyer do research on the police regulations and ask the investigating officer wether they follow the procedures when arresting serving active members of the police service who commit criminal offenses because if they don’t follow these procedures in law he will be a free man and come back and sue the state for wrongful arrest and be successful.I am an honest police and don’t like crime but even if he commit his crime his rights should not be breached murders gettin bail so Mr Behanzin why would you deny him bail. The heads of the police department should throughly be investigated.Too many square pegs in wrong holes. If he is found guily punish Special Branch they are not doing thier work properly when recruiting police officers

        Exactly!
That’s what’s wrong with society today. We do things and blame everyone else for our actions. Part of being an adult is accepting responsibility for our actions. So IF it is found out that a wrong was done he has to correct it, face the penalties and move on and hopefully do better. And that applies to all of us regardless of who we are.

    • April 11, 2012

So @wonderful you are encouraging wrong and talso that he should not face any penalties. Why do you have the mentality that no law no constitution can or should NOT stop him. You just like the AM.

this is not the begining and trust me it wont be the end…..there is alot more to come………. in 2007 there was a group of special constables who was promised a chance to go to morne bruce to receive the six months training while they was working under the guidance of inspector , since she left the force all strings towards the enlistment of these young persons suddenly died out years down the line they began taking them one by one into the force to hide the shame from thair eyes (one wise man say a promise is a comfort to a fool ) but its a good thing they did not believe in that promise cause they would have made themselves fools. some of these young people names wound appear on the court least more that the real police names would, its like they addores the job more than the real police officers adores it. people should be given the chance they deserve and not be given it because of (i know ur parents or i know him he will vote for the government) that is not fair to the young ones of this land nor the people cause we need devoted ones to serve our country not ones like mr.tyson……so mr commissioner go bact in your books and visit the pages carefully and give the ones u left out from that 2007 list a chance to prove them selves they have already made some of them get to old i hope that wont be a problem cause they have surved the country for somany years already…………..

  42. April 11, 2012

i wont say thats good cause come to think of it, it was a young police officer who did that unbelieveable thing. am pretty sorry to hear that like someone say i hope he learn from that and learn to keep his hands on his person. that group of police officers they are recrutting them days there u cant blame them cause they are not receiving the full training. who in this world can learn to be a police in three months when the usual amount of mounths to train a police officer used to be six (6)months? that is unbelieveable! and besides that is good for the police force cause the young men and women who are devoted to the job they supress them and have them huscleing buss drivers and vendors on the bay front negletting them the chance to get the full training and have them as special constables they taking all doogs and cats and put them there and have the devoted ones as special constables. that force is being run like a who know u camp that not fair at all

All should be equal before the Law. Is that the case in Dominica? Didn’t the Court issue a warrant for the police to arrest lawyer Isidore with regards to the case in which another Lawyer Emanuel filed 42 charges of alledged fraud and other criminal acts committed against him? Why was that Lawyer not arrested? Why was the court’s order disobeyed? Was any Police punished for disregarding the court’s order? Isn’t such behaviour irresponsible?

How could those who are responsible and entrusted for upholding the Laws and Constitution turn around and boldly disrespect those same laws?

What happened to the Police Officer, who obeyed orders from whoever to take the unlicensed gun, the evidence, the exhibit, from the court’s possession and hand it back to the culprit just recently? Didn’t the Chief criticise the police prosecutor on that case publicly at a Press conference for demanding that the gun be retrieved and brought back to the court as evidence? You must never forget those things.

If John Doe committs an illegal act bring him before the courts and charge or jail him/her accordingly. If joe Blo also committs an offence against the law, why shouldn’t he/she be also brought before the courts and fined or jailed?

So no arrests yet in the Emanuel firebombing crime? Are the investigations going anywhere? Are they stalled? So no case in that horrendous crime? It is freightening, really disgusting anyway to know that a police officer would be involved in stealing a firearm and ammunitions, amidst all the recent spate of armed robberies and increase in crimes and violence.

There are already holes in that case because the cid didn’t follow the proper procudes in arresting an active serving police officer.Mr Carrette doesn’t know the Police Service Commission Regulations Chapter 1:01 of the Dominica Constitution and Police Regulations Chapter 14:01 of the revised Laws Of Dominica of 1990.Carrette should remember Pc Tony willaims who was arrested the same way and sued the state and won a huge sum of money.I did not condone what he did but procuders should be followed.Lawyes should study the police regulationd carefully because they are flouted by the authorities.I hope DNO publish my comments because the never like to put sense int thier comments.

    • officer of the law

as an officer of the law i read your comments and if these procuders are not followed the man can walk a free man.The two officers who were arrested and charged for murder were not immeadiatly after the incident they were confined to police hq the investigatins took place then they were suspended from duty by the police service commission then arrested and charged and bailed.Tony williams was arrested on a carnival day charges were filed no procedurs were followed the charges were dismissed and Tony sued the state and wrere sucessful.Mr Gildon Richards was his lawyer

“ruin his reputation”? Did somebody frame him? Is it a conspiracy? He is an adult who took an oath to protect the public (life and property)not endanger it. I agree let the system find him guilty or not guilty, but in the meantime, in a society that is plagued with an upsurge in violent crime, you cannot fault people for being angry at one whom they “PAY to protect them, for alledgely aiding and abbetting criminals.

      @100%Truth@balance

When they join the Police Force not all of them have good motives. Some view it as a job for a salary and not a dedicated one to serve their country and nationals. Their ulterior motive will soon surface.

So what? He committed a crime and for one in his position. Why do you not stick to the issue? Your comments are irrelevant to this article.
A Police Officer was arrested for theft. THIS IS THE ISSUE! Some of you who sway from the topic get me angry. STICK TO THE ISSUE AND FACE THE FACT!

I was thinking along the same lines. He is not the first etc…okkkkk, so ur point is what? bcus he is not the first nor the last and there are others within the force who do the same and worse things they shouldn’t make it a public issue?

@Justice and Truth your type of mentally does not solve problems. You cannot wait till next round in a case like this – you have to dig deeper. More than likely it has happened before and he is the one who got caught – remember HE IS A NEW OFFICER and he can do it what make you think a seaonsed officer cannot or is not doing the same?

      • April 10, 2012

Looks like he dot the light from the gay ship hot debate; where some educators said all sin is sin. So now he is expessing the fact that all crime is crime. All what he mentioned are against the law. Some these law officers are not upholding the laws of the land.
Give @laurent a chance to express himself. Cut him some slack; once he talks the truth. Your comments were highly criticised by the public.
Looks like you were off target.

thank you bro tell them again especailly in SOME villages where drugs is popular the police dooes inform their friends when the squad MAKING A MOVE,so their are more dirty cops in DA ,and they oming up in the VI to do their obeah ,but doh worry time will tell on them .

        April 13, 2012

        @ rasta4life

It is so sad to read this. Those who are employed and paid to withhold the Law are the lawbreakers. Their phone lines should be tapped. This is what is done if certain people are suspected of wrongdoing and how they are caught.
This is why crimes will continue to flourish and get worst in DA and many innocent people who are also the victims will suffer for it.
There are some people who do not like hearing/reading the truth. They state he is not the first and will not be the last which is not the point and beyond it. With that kind of attitude, they, too and their comments are irrelevant to DNO and serve no useful purpose for they do not stick to the issue of a Policeman committing a crime, selling a gun and ammunition, if this is true.
Dominica, I cry for Thee. Pray for Dominica and its nationals. Some of those who comment need to be broadminded and sensible.
All those who are not fair and just, time will indeed tell for them. In time they will reap what they sow and, to their regret they will eat their own words.
Those who do obeah should know that God is stronger than his enemy, the devil. He knows who they are. They will suffer the consequences of their evil actions.

I understand it’s innocent until proven guilty.. Some young people are so desperate to get a job and they just can’t get one. Now, instead of being grateful for having a job, that’s how you mess things up for you. You sell yourself for 20 pieces of silver. So many young men and women out there who wish they were a police office, and they just can’t get the opportunity.

If he did not have a criminal record of any sort, it is difficult for the Police Administration to ascertain who will be officers of integrity. They cannot read their minds. This pertains to every one who is seeking employment whether within the Police Force or not.

Keep your he’s up, it’s not the end of the world. Pray hard for either forgiveness if you did it, or for honesty to prevail if you didn’t … Blessings my boy

    • Justice and Truth
      April 10, 2012

      @ Defense Attorney

You should not be using this name for you are no defense attorney. Even murderers plead not guilty. It is the norm. This does not mean that he is not guilty. In order to be arrested, there was proof that he stole the gun and ammunition. He might as well plead guilty.
Will a lawyer lie and defend him successfully? I am informing you that such a lawyer may not see the daylight of God’s Kingdom and those who successfully defend criminals/murderers.
We do know that there are many such lawyers in the entire world. The cost of hiring a lawyer is exorbitant. The government pays for those who cannot afford one, at taxpayers’ expense.
Our Lord Jesus said: “What does it profit a man (woman) to gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his (her) soul” for money?
As God looks on and takes note, lawyers keep lying and as you age, note how ungracefully and unhealthy you will age and where your soul will end up for all eternity. Time will take care of them.

hhhmmmm DYER AGAIN!!!! and my people… if this young man is wrong then he should face the consequences of his actions…. if the commissioner didn’t go into who gave bubbles his gun… then let’s go for the commissioner… we should not use one situation to justify the other… giving guns to people who may commit illegal acts is very disturbing… and as a police officer allegedly acting in such manner is distasteful… so if he is found guilty then he should face to repercussions of his actions….

if we held our people in power to higher accountability then these things wouldn’t have happened… YES… everything is skerrit and whoever in power because they were given the mandate to manage… yes everything is the commissioner because he is given leadership to put order in the country…

many young men and women want to make an honest contribution but are being sidelined because of alleged political affiliations and it’s only jobs for the boys… well i guess the real men and women are being left out…

now we all know DYER’S method… drag a case… come to court and say she forgot or don’t have time for so n so…. then come back and tell the accuser… ‘YOU LIE’… then drag the case again… … DAT DYER DYAH!!! HMMM :-x

        @ blessed

Blessed is for the blessed, holy and pure. You are using it out of context. I would call it blasphemous.
With a name like that you should know better or change your name. It is generally known that lawyers will defend criminals/murderers and some of those will be acquitted even though they are guilty. It does not mean that those lawyers are correct.
Since nothing is hidden from God, He knows if they are or not. God will give them their just recompense.
I have previously stated this is why I will never be a criminal lawyer.

      • blessed
        April 11, 2012

@ justice and truth – the reason u are not a criminal lawyer is because u cannot in no way be a criminal lawyer. it takes brains. all what u can do is comment on what people say, That is your job, I wonder how much DNO paying you, to keep the website lively. i never said that lawyers are correct. Their job is to defend. when u have a client, whether she is guilty or not, u are paid to defend herhim. there is something in law called attorney-client privilege which simply means that no matter if your client confesses to you that she did the crime, it is not your business to tell on him or her. U have a duty to preserve your client’s innocence. The only time you can breach that confidentiality is when your client tells u something that might cause bodily injury to herself or others example suicide. so, Justice and truth, do like me and go to law school. i am in first year. when will you be joining me? huh? tell me? huh?

It doesn’t matter what the government pays.As public servants we are expected to uphold our oath.I served for twenty years in the Commonwealth Of Dominica police service with honourable men and women.People who lived to serve.Examplary men and women.
You people talk as if the government of this country pays the lowest wages in the world.Lets be real.Lets stop trying to justify our short comings.Stop blaming government for peoples’ misdeeds. In every organisation there are people with certain weaknesses.

      • Justice and Truth
        April 13, 2012

        @ Lapo L’Ai

You are correct. I remember those days of worthy Policemen and a few Policewomen. You are to be commended for dedicated service.
In those days there were only petty criminals. Growing up in DA to adulthood not one youth murdered another. They did not own and carry guns and wear robbery paraphernalia. Policemen did not sell guns or suspected of selling it, no doubt to prospective criminals or criminals. To my knowledge the Police Force then consisted of Police Officers of integrity. I heard nothing derogatory about them.
Today, note what is occurring in DA. How can these types of crimes be fought and eradicated if members of the Police Force lack integrity? It is a grave concern and one to be taken seriously.
This leads genuinely concerned Dominican lovers who want what is best for it to say, what is going on in DA and may God help DA.
While this does not pertain to the issue, a young woman murdered her two children; one a baby. She was out on bail and she was allowed to leave the island without a Court hearing for the murders. Under no circumstances should this have happened. These actions make the public lose confidence in them and Police authorities.
