The public is being warned to be on the lookout for the circulation of counterfeit US$100, EC$100 and EC$50 notes.
“We’re received reports of counterfeit currencies … and these monies have been tendered to utility companies,” Police Public Relations Officer Claude Weekes said in a telephone interview.
He has asked persons to exercise utmost vigilance and caution when doing business, especially during the carnival season.
“Most times when these monies are given, what you find they want a product of nominal value. For example they may come to ask for one cigarette or a pack of biscuit [for] the change,” Weekes noted.
